The article Hurghada Shark Attack: 8 June 2023 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
WP:NOTNEWS and WP:SUSTAINED.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Deauthorized. (talk) 13:42, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
- I'll explain my rationale here;
- Unless a newsworthy event is likely to remain notable for a long time, it most likely doesn't qualify for a Wikipedia article. There's some other factors that I'm not mentioning as they're rather complex, so it might be a good idea to read though the policies I cited. Thanks for understanding. Deauthorized. (talk) 13:52, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
- And thank you very kindly for being attentive and considerate while giving me some helpful pointers.
- Ironically, due to the viral nature of what happened to the video, it might grow into significance as time goes on. But at this still relatively early stage who knows?
- I have actually just looked up what became known as The Battle of Kruger which in many ways is a similar video. It featured a buffalo calf being attacked by crocodiles and lions but ultimately surviving. It too went viral.
- However there is no page on here about that so probably that is telling me exactly what will happen in the end concerning this shark attack.
- We're all learning here. Domielka (talk) 14:07, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah no worries. If it does turn out to qualify for an article later in time then it'll probably be recreated. IPhone was deleted plenty of times before becoming a permanent article, so there's always a chance. Deauthorized. (talk) 15:54, 12 August 2023 (UTC)

Category:Fantasy battles is redundant
[edit]Hi Domielka, your new Category:Fantasy battles overlaps both with Category:Middle-earth battles and with Category:Fictional battles, indeed the new category is therefore completely redundant. If you had looked at the bottom of Battle of the Pelennor Fields, for instance, you would have seen "Middle-earth battles" listed there already, and if you had opened that category, you'd have discovered "Fictional battles" also. This amount of research is mandated as part of the essential WP:BEFORE work for category editors. I guess we will now have to empty all the "Fantasy battles" of the new category, and then make the category a redirect to "Fictional battles". It would be appreciated if you'd do that now. Many thanks, Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:39, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I actually thought it was ok because Middle Earth is specific. As I also listed three two other fantasy series as an element of what at this stage is an embryonic category. Domielka (talk) 12:43, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- Updated as far as I can see. Not sure how to delete the defunct category though. Thank your for your input.
- This is the first time I have dealt with categories, as I am still learning. but thought I had done enough searching to warrant the creation of new category. Domielka (talk) 12:49, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Fantasy Battles
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Fantasy Battles indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. ✗plicit 12:59, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
