Introduction
[edit]--Andrew.Mags (talk) 22:01, 15 August 2012 (UTC): I'm thinking of editing the introduction, there's a few awkward bits.
--Dodo0517 (talk) 22:48, 15 August 2012 (UTC) go for it i'am going to start the development part. will have it done tonight for sure!
Alright this is my edit for the introduction. I actually made the introduction shorter, but I found a few details were unnecessary and too wordy.
LINE is a proprietary instant messaging application for smartphones and PCs. In addition to basic messaging, LINE users can send each other images, video, audio media messages and make free VoIP calls.
Initially a mobile application for Android and iOS phones, it has since expanded to Windows Phones as well as desktop computers. A BlackBerry version is currently in development.
As of June, 2012, LINE has more than 49 million users worldwide and is used in over 230 countries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrew.Mags (talk • contribs) 23:34, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
--Dodo0517 (talk) 06:02, 16 August 2012 (UTC) i think maybe changing the first part of the sentence where you said "messaging application for smartphones and PCs" to "messaging application for mobile platforms (iOS, Android, Windows) and also desktop operating systems (Mac OSX and Windows)
--Dodo0517 (talk) saying just smartphones and PCs is a little too broad i feel. just an idea what do you guys think?
--[[User:Andrew.Mags|Andrew.Mags] (talk) 06:46, 16 August 2012 (UTC): I believe that although "smartphones and pcs" is sorta broad, the details are both on the side and found throughout the article. Smartphones generally cover both androids and iOS, and most people associate PCs with Windows, Mac, and Linux.
--Ralf12 (talk)I agree to the smart phone idea. But dont you think that not all PCs are capable of running it. Like MS-DOS or Unix (I know theres not even a handful that uses them anymore), are platforms that aren't test and tried. Just a thought! —Preceding undated comment added 08:55, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
--judyho723 (talk): i think we can add how many language were developed on LINE
--Ralf12 (talk) I think its a good idea if we include the future statistics of the app. Maybe in the Intro or development section.
- App hits 50 million users faster than Facebook
- Developer aims for 100 million users by December — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ralf12 (talk • contribs) 09:28, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Origin
[edit]I found this paragraph online.... maybe we can post it on the wikipedia page Now the main question: how LINE app was created?
It may sound somewhat bizarre but it is all about the 2011 Japan Earthquake. You all know how tragic it was. Communication was disrupted, major damage was caused to many buildings, roads and transportation systems. In such situations cell phones still work but service is sketchy. Data works better than voice. This was the impetus to my colleagues at NHN Japan to design an app accessible on smartphones, tablet, and PC, which would work on data network and provide continuous and free instant messaging and calling service.
line_app_logo.pngThe name LINE was originated from the fact that after the incident people had to line up outside of public phones, because in Japan the public phones "are programmed to take priority over networks during and after an earthquake".
Later in June 2011 LINE app was launched. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Judyho723 (talk • contribs) 19:13, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
--Ralf12 (talk) great find! —Preceding undated comment added 08:58, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 20:44, 15 August 2012 (UTC): We can work with that, but we'll have to edit it. Something like this to start off with:
LINE was originally conceived after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake (add the link) in Japan where lines were formed around public phones.
--Dodo0517 (talk) 22:52, 15 August 2012 (UTC) this is just like the article i talked about while in the last tutorial! i was going to mix it in the development part. if you guys want to have it in a separate section i guess it is do-able, but my only concern is that there might some material that over lap between the two section.
--Dodo0517 (talk) 22:53, 15 August 2012 (UTC) also Judy can you please cite where you found the article maybe we have the same one!
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 23:22, 15 August 2012 (UTC):I don't think origins warrants a section. I agree, it should be included in development.
--judyho723: okay, i will fix that
Development
[edit]LINE a messaging application was launched in June 23rd 2011 by NHN Japan. After the dramatic earthquake in 2011 that taken place in Japan. NHN Japan team realized how inconvenient the damaged communication system was and discovered that Data service was working much better than voice service, therefore, they have decided to design an app accessible on smartphones, [[[tablet]], and desktop operating system, which would work on data network and provide continuous and free instant messaging and calling service. The name LINE was originated from the fact that after the incident people had to line up outside of public phones, because in Japan the public phones "are programmed to take priority over networks during and after an earthquake".
Late October 2011 LINE has experienced an unexpected overload on the server due to the extreme growth of the users over the world; causing outages, and delay in message delivery. To resolve the problem LINE identified the issues and concluded that the scalability process had to be improved, therefore, three data storage system was determined that could potentially be the solution: 1.HBase 2. Cassandra 3.MongoDB. Finally HBase has been proved to be the primary storage for user profile, contacts and groups. [1]
On July 3rd 2012, NHN Japan has announced the new feature "Home" and "Timeline" for LINE application. The new features allow users to share recent development in life to friends, in real time.[2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dodo0517 (talk • contribs) 07:29, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
--Dodo0517 (talk) 07:31, 16 August 2012 (UTC) i am having trouble right now trying to put words together, if someone could kindly go over this section fix some problems or let me know what needs to be redo/edit that would be amazing! thanks
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 07:38, 16 August 2012 (UTC):Editing now.
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 07:49, 16 August 2012 (UTC): Here's my edited version.
LINE was launched on June 23rd 2011 by NHN Japan after the Tōhoku earthquake. NHN Japan realized how inconvenient the damaged communication system was and discovered that a data service would work be more efficient. They decided to design an app accessible on smartphones, tablets, and desktops, which would work on the data network and provide continuous and free instant messaging and calling service. The name LINE was originated from the fact that after the incident people had to line up outside of public phones, because in Japan the public phones "are programmed to take priority over networks during and after an earthquake".
In late October 2011, LINE experienced an unexpected overload on the server due to the extreme growth of the users around the world; causing outages, and delay in message delivery. After concluding that the scalability process had to be improved, NHN Japan chose to adopt HBase as the primary storage for user profiles, contacts, and groups.
On July 3rd 2012, NHN Japan announced the new features "Home" and "Timeline" for LINE. The new features allow users to share recent development in life to friends, in real time similar to social networking services.
--Dodo0517 (talk) 08:00, 16 August 2012 (UTC) Thanks Andrew! looks a lot smoother now. anyone have more information that should/can be added on this section? --Ralf12 (talk) 09:33, 16 August 2012 (UTC) Do you think you can talk a bit more about the maker of this app?

Stickers
[edit]--Andrew.Mags (talk) 20:47, 15 August 2012 (UTC): This is what I have so far, any thoughts? It was originally longer but we need to keep it concise
One feature of LINE is the Sticker Shop where users are able to purchase virtual stickers depicting original and well-known characters. The stickers are used in chat between users and act as larger sized emoji. Users are able to purchase stickers as gifts. Purchased stickers are attached to an account and can be used on other platforms. Stickers are only available for download to users on Android, iOS, and Windows Phone and are purchased through their respective mobile stores.
--Dodo0517 (talk) 08:03, 16 August 2012 (UTC) would adding that the stickers are also themed with recent event over the world(ex. Olympics, Holiday) be advertising?
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 08:22, 16 August 2012 (UTC): Will do.
--judyho723 (talk): i don't think adding Olympic pictures would be an advertising. —Preceding undated comment added 08:23, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

--Andrew.Mags (talk) 07:50, 16 August 2012 (UTC): I personally don't see it as necessary.
--Dodo0517 (talk) 07:56, 16 August 2012 (UTC) sounds reasonable to me not having it, it was just a sudden thought

LINE Related Apps
[edit]--Ralf12 (talk) 09:48, 16 August 2012 (UTC):
LINE Camera- provides you with the power of decorating your photos. The photo database ranges over 700 LINE stickers and over 100 frames. These pictures can also be shared on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. Available both on Iphone and Android for free.
IPhoneAndroid
LINE Card- gives an opportunity to send and share cards for celebrations such as Birthdays and anniversaries. It also allows the user to add a personal message. Available both on Iphone and Android for free.
--Dodo0517 (talk) 07:54, 16 August 2012 (UTC) we should link the app page or make a chart of these related apps for people to link in to it
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 08:22, 16 August 2012 (UTC): A link would be better.
--judyho723 (talk): Adding info about line brush>>
>>>> LINE brush is a painter app which allows users to edit their pictures with 27S stylish brushes,15 photo brushes and adjust the finest details. Only available on iOS system
--judyho723 (talk): add hyperlink for android and ios —Preceding undated comment added 09:08, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 09:10, 16 August 2012 (UTC): I don't think we need to add hyperlinks to things that are already hyperlinked on the page. Those are linked on the top.

[edit]Additional Information and Discussion
[edit]--Andrew.Mags (talk) 22:07, 14 August 2012 (UTC): I edited the talk page format to make it a bit tidier. Also note to anyone else writing in the talk page, on the toolbar beside italics is the signature. You just need to click it and it'll fill in your name, time, and date.
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 03:26, 15 August 2012 (UTC):Just finishing up my paragraph on stickers/microtransactions. Where do you guys think I should put the heading for it and the title. I was thinking before features. In that case it might be better to just remove the stickers from the features list if it's discussed at length.
--Dodo0517 (talk) 22:56, 15 August 2012 (UTC) loving what you have done with the talk page it is so much clearer and organized now! once each of us have done something(doesn't have to be complete) lets post it here just so we have a record of our work progress and make sure we don't have duplicates of material!
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 23:24, 15 August 2012 (UTC): Have you contacted Rafey about his part?
--Dodo0517 (talk) 23:47, 15 August 2012 (UTC) nop.... not sure which part he should do. got any idea?
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 00:04, 16 August 2012 (UTC): Well, looking over the features list, I think maybe it'd be a better idea to take that list and develop it into paragraphs. Like Home and Timeline bit could have a sentence about how it's like a social networking thing. I'm thinking a features section like the one here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMessage Ask him if he can turn some of those into paragraph. OR he could add a section about line camera, line brush. Rather than make a table like we originally planned, he could write about how there are other apps developed to work with LINE.
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 00:09, 16 August 2012 (UTC):Actually the second idea is better.
--Ralf12 (talk) Hey I have worked on the section with line camera and line card. Here are my rough findings:
--Dodo0517 (talk) 07:13, 16 August 2012 (UTC) does anyone know where i can find Rav's contact information? i remember Harrison has mention something through blackboard but i am having a hard time with it...
--Ralf12 (talk) I can get you his email?
--Dodo0517 (talk) 07:47, 16 August 2012 (UTC) if you have his email that would be great and i am going to move your related Apps to a section of its own if you don't mind(just to keep things organized!)
--Dodo0517 (talk) 08:12, 16 August 2012 (UTC) added language in the info box (credit to Judy), is anyone still around?
--Andrew.Mags (talk) 08:21, 16 August 2012 (UTC): Yeah. I'm still around.
--judyho723 (talk): add more reference link to the external link section.
--Dodo0517 (talk) 09:04, 16 August 2012 (UTC) Lets now start putting things together on the sandbox page! add reference, link, fix anything that should not be there!!! almost done good job guys!
--Ralf12 (talk) Im still here!
--Ralf12 (talk) And yea go ahead with that move! —Preceding undated comment added 09:22, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
--Ralf12 (talk) 09:47, 16 August 2012 (UTC) To show that Naver are realesing new updates we can add, the new versions make the following improvments:
- Strengthened security for email address authentication
- Improved chat-room design
- New option to read old ‘What’s Up?’ posts
- Other minor bug fixes
