This weeks 'Eddy' Award

I think one of President Obama's best attributes is that he pretty much ignores his critics. As you and I both know, the award has never been anything more than what it is...ie...the result of ONE editors nomination and some minimal vetting by a second, about 6 weeks in the Q, and finally distribution. No politics, no drama. Calling the Eddy useless and unworthy is counter-acted by Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Recipient response. DC Meetups in March

Though we have a massive snowstorm coming up, spring is just around the corner! Personally, I am looking forward to warmer weather.

• March Meetup on Sunday, March 23 from 3 PM – 6 PM. Our monthly weekend meetup, same place as last month. Meet really cool and interesting people!

An exciting month of wiki events!

Hello there,

I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.

First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.

On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.

The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.

There are other meetups in the works, so be sure to check our meetup page with the latest. I hope to see you at some of these events!

Got your message, Doc. I am a gambling person and joined up to rid the Wikipedia of gambling industry bias. Gambling casinos have large online staffs and one things they focus on is the transmission of misinformation about their games on Wikipedia given its high search occurrence. Many of the truths that are gotten from casino staff come from informal interaction at trade shows and conferences and it would get such people fired if they were quoted by name. Self proclaimed Wikipedia perfectionists who keep deleting my clarifications do so in the name of Wikipedia perfectionism but they are acting against the point of Wikipedia that is to provide accurate information free of private interest bias to the people for the people. I have looked at three areas so far and every good change I make is subjected to these creeps who for all I know work for the Las Vegas or Macau or Singapore casinos that rake in billions from the ignorance of the people. I edited blackjack and the entry for the solver of baccarat named Zuan Xin. These are materially meaningful edits and my well meaning participation has been treated with derision and hostility while inane or vapid or esoteric entries that no one really cares much about or acts upon get an easy time of it. I tagged Zuan Xin because it was too technical and I read all of the references. The creep who tried to delete it could not possibly have done so or did not have any idea what any of the references meant. I would appreciate it if you would review my edits to blackjack and baccarat and give the first review to Zuan Xin. After that creep wasted my energy with his silliness I removed the too technical tag from Zuan Xin because I decided that that DataDrivenOne who wrote the article knew his subject and underlying subjects. Thank you. I hope you understand that some subjects here as in journalism must honor the legitimacy of anonymous sources lest no one speak up ever on topics that could put them at risk for a meat cleaver in the back such as what Kevin Lau of Hong Kong most recently received causing him to be maimed and a permanent testimony to the power of the bad guys in Hong Kong and the rest of Asia. Your call, Doc. But before you do anything, get one of the SCMP articles about what happened to Kevin Lau in Hong Kong and then tell me that good sources must never be anonymous. I'm sure it was just a rollback misclick. Doctree, if you like, you can hide the rollback button on your watchlist (which is where these misclicks usually happen) by adding this to the bottom of common.css:

For even more fine-tuning, you can set it to only hide this watchlist rollback link on mobile devices, whose touchscreens are extra vulnerable to this by using this instead:

Washington, DC meetups in June

Miss Multiverse page deleted

Greetings Doctree, you have a very nice wikipedia page and profile... congrats!!!

I have a frustrating issue here... I have created the page Miss Multiverse, it was deleted once before about a year ago, i don´t understand why if it has all the right references, no use of promotion, just facts, there are even winners of miss universe that have participated in Miss Multiverse whom have profiles on wikipedia... and its still deleted as if this beauty pageant does not exist.

There are many smaller beauty pageants listed on wikipedia, we are just not able to comprehend why this is happening, it almost feels as if enthusiasts or supporters of other pageants are deleting this one, it takes time to learn how to use wikipedia and frustrating to see someone just come and delete it.

I will appreciate your help enormously, if you would kindly take a look and figure out a solution.

The Great American Wiknic and other events in July

I am pleased to announce our fourth annual picnic, the Great American Wiknic, will take place at Meridian Hill Park in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, July 13 from 1 to 5 PM (rain date: July 20). We will be hanging out by the statue of Dante Alighieri, a statue that was donated to the park in 1921 as a tribute to Italian Americans. Read more about the statue on Wikipedia. July will also feature the second annual Great American Wiknic in Frederick, Maryland. This year’s Frederick picnic will take place on Sunday, July 6 at Baker Park. Sign up here for the Frederick picnic.

Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon

The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.

If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.

It's made me consider volunteering to provide third opinions myself - and I'll also have to look into helping with Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention as well. I already had enough irons in the fire due to socking claims (see talk page and ANI), but one of the things at that RFA that grated me was the "your articles are unimportant", said by someone I really like and respect, but I think they were unnecessarily harsh there. All articles are important, and mundane items like foods and such are probably some of the most read articles. I do many of them (including a few with NA) because they are fun, seldom controversial, and you can just edit. It's supposed to be fun, right?
