Nomination of Boyko, Viktor Sergeyevich for deletion

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Drmies (talk) 04:07, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info.Doctor Zevago (talk) 05:14, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Good day SilkTork! Could you help me to understand my mistakes in that article? If we take a look to the Talk:Boyko,_Viktor_Sergeyevich we could see that a pair of the article's sections was removed. IMO credible independent reviews and interviews are a worthy part of article. Comment this situation please. Best Regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 06:35, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, SilkTork. Thank you for your answer. It is very pithy.Doctor Zevago (talk) 23:19, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
- I don't recall making any comment, though I did keep your message on my talkpage when I archived all the November messages so I could be reminded to look into the matter. I did glance at the talkpage, but was somewhat daunted by the amount of links. I will get around to looking at the matter, though you'll need to bear with me as I am not on Wikipedia much at the moment, and when I am it is just to check out information for off-Wiki activities I'm involved in, though I may make an edit here or there while I'm here! SilkTork *YES! 23:53, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
I've taken a long hard look at the article, and I'm not clear where the notability is. I checked out the sources and used a translator, and the sources to a non-Russian don't appear to be reliable under Wikipedia terms - they appear to be blogs rather than national newspapers or scholarly articles. The impression given is that this article and the Russian one (also recently created) is mainly promotional in nature, and as such would not be the sort of article we accept on Wikipedia. I looked for English language sources and found none. The "book" that Boyko has written gives the appearance of being self-published. How much do you know about this person? Would you be able to supply more information, and perhaps guide me toward a reliable source? SilkTork *YES! 15:28, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
I've looked at the article again, and I don't see a clear claim to notability. The article is about a Russian yoga teacher. Why is he notable? A number of the statements about his personal life are not supported by reliable references. We have trivial information about which schools he went to. Why would the general reader be interested in this? The article needs trimming, sourcing and copy-editing, but before doing that I'd like to hear from you why you feel the topic is notable under Wikipedia's guideline - WP:Notability. SilkTork *YES! 09:25, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- Well that is not a problem. I need 3 to 4 days to do the work. Best Regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 09:42, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- So first of all I'd like to say thanks for your interest SilkTork. It was only Cullen328 who has helped me at Englsih Wikipedia at the time before now. And it seems that I've finally found the second person who is ready to share his knowledge with me. You know to be honest I'm just delighted how the current article's history develops. When I placed it for the first time, user Drmies has cut several important parts of the text saying me that it is too long. After that you are going to trim it again and at the same time you already think that it is unclear why this man deserves to be at Wikipedia. I have no choice but take it as a piece-by-piece castration of article. But when it will finally lose all its meaningful parts everybody including me will have to admit that the text contains no interesting info and should be finally killed.
- You know I didn't just decided to send you a message. Before this I read your profile and have found that you are a thinking, knowledgeable and fair person. This makes me think that your current words about the article's deletion is a result of misunderstanding I must fix.
- So sir. Please take a look at the 1st part of info I should bring to the table. If anything is uncomfortable to read, requires translation, explanation or something like this, please let me know.
- 1. Please take a look at the article's discussion page including The old version of biography that adds some important info.
- 2. discussion for deletion.
- As soon as you will read these 2 points, you let me know and I add arguments about notablity and all that will be neeeded. Thanks again for your interest. Best regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 07:36, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- I previously read through that material, and checked out some of the sources using an online translator. My reading led me to feel that Boyko is not notable, though he does exist and has taught yoga, and he has his personal views on yoga. That he has taught yoga to important or notable people is not in itself notable as notability is not inherited. The test of notability for the purpose of this encyclopedia, is that reliable sources have identifed a topic (or person) as notable and have written directly and significantly about the topic/person. The sources I looked at had comments by Boyko, but not much about him. Our role here on Wikipedia is not to make a case that someone should be notable, but to reflect those topics that are already acknowledged as notable.
- The way that the article has been written with detailed personal information that is not available in the sources would lead one to suppose that the main writer is Boyko or someone close to him. It is not against Wikipedia rules that someone writes about themselves, but it is frowned upon that somebody does not reveal they have a potential conflict of interest. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. You are not under any obligation to reveal who you are - nor am I asking you to do that. You have a right to your privacy. However, you may wish to read the guidance in WP:COI carefully, and consider disclosing any interest you have in the topic.
- Because Wikipedia is a high profile website which can be edited by anyone, we are a target for people who wish to promote themselves or their interests or their company. An account such as yours which was apparantly created for the single purpose of writing an article, and the article reads like self-promotion and contains information that only someone close to the subject would know, and where there is some serious doubt about the notability of the subject, would raise concerns. See Wikipedia:Single-purpose account.
- I like to protect the integrity of Wikipedia in order to preserve and improve its reputation. I think this project is one of the most significant achievements of modern times. Poor quality and dubious articles pull down Wikipedia's reputation. However, I am prepared to help you with the article if you can indicate Boyko's notability. Do you have a reliable source which has written directly and signifiacntly about Boyko? SilkTork *YES! 12:19, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. I will answer inside 2 days. Doctor Zevago (talk) 14:11, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, I need additional 24 hours. Doctor Zevago (talk) 15:53, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- I will end another delay inside 36 hours. Thanks. Doctor Zevago (talk) 19:51, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
So. Thanks for the patience. Let's continue. First of all I should show you notability of Boyko.
Quote: The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth; that is, whether readers can check that material in Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source
Quote: topic is deemed appropriate for inclusion as a standalone article if it complies with WP:NOT and has received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources.

Sources where Boyko is criticized
We will discuss the content of this criticism later. But now we see a very important thing in these texts. Nobody question Boyko’s notability:
Review on the book "Yoga: The Art of Communication" in "Russian magazine".
Another review. These guys call themselves Ukrainian Federation of Yoga. In reality they are just another company that takes your money for teaching you how to swear. The same thing with Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and many others. Though this thesis still needs my arguments, and they will follow later. But now you just can read a text that is written directly about Boyko.
One more review from this so called Ukrainian Federation of Yoga.
A pack of reviews written by someone Koukalev who calls his organization Saint-Petersburg School of Practical Yoga. Between his writing we see a review on Boyko’s book. Key word is "Бойко".
Book "Philosophical bases of Present Hatha Yoga Styles". A small part of this book is dedicated to criticism of Boyko’s writings. Key word is "Бойко" as usual.
Probably it is the most strange review. It is the site of the psychological and health care club. Authors make mistakes in almost every statement, but they also consider Boyko's notability.
- We see yoga-teacher named Kargopolov who wrote a book where he criticize Boyko:

Here is the short info about Boyko's participation in the Yoga Journal conference. He writes and proves that these organisations have not so much relation to the real yoga. This is one of the rare times when he visited such events like that. http://www.imedia.ru/news/3063/

The following links lead us to the questionable sources. But we should take into account 4 things:
1. Russia is a country where underground views were always strong and popular. But Boyko is an enthusiast who is close to underground ideology. He seeks neither publicity nor promotion or financial success. If you would look at his site, you’ll be able to discover that he uses no advertising, he does not aim to attract as much people as possible, he even has posted his book for free downloading. Surely, it would be reasonable to try to find some hidden profit of such an order. But you will find nothing. Boyko is a real philanthropist.
2. These sources has no relation with Boyko’s school. We will try to find this relation together.
3. Almost nobody in the Russian net questions Boyko’s notability (his high authority and exceptional role in Russia’yoga and not only)
4. These sources are rather numerous. Quantity enhances quality in this case.
The 4 points I just posted are not arguments. It is just a little preamble. In the near 3 days I will bring sources and add commentaries to them. After I will end the list, we are able to discuss it. But until then we listen each other about every source that attracts your interest as it was before.

Thanks for the patience!
I add another interview in the (questionable) but still solid source.
- The interview with Boyko for the now not existing «Nagual Time» magazine in 2004
- Full issue in pdf: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=91UDD127
- LJ: http://partizan-l.livejournal.com/29161.html
My commentary: It is important to understand that it is the large and detailed interview. Boyko does not tell 'em how good he is. They ask him about Carlos Castaneda and yoga. He has shared wholla lot of knowledge with them and you can't find any info about his school in the article. It is so 'cause this article has nothing to do with promotion or anything like this. As usual Boyko was invited as known expert.
One more interview in "The 6th race" paper. This paper has no credible reputation, but since I found it, I add it here. I've checked, still they do 5000 copies monthly.
So it seems like I’ve almost finished adding sources.
Well, I brought significant coverage. As I said, the reliable sources are not very numerous, but in total we have rather clear picture based on the WP:Notability, especially if to take into account the Boyko's lack of self-promotional and business-oriented actions that are obvious for everybody and easy provable.
- Now I would read what you think about all this. After we reconcile the notability, we could discuss the text itself.

any interest
[edit]You have asked me if I have any interest in the topic. Surely I practice yoga. Just like you drink beer and hear The Byrds and Chuck Berry. But I have no profit for my Wikipedia articles.Doctor Zevago (talk) 03:51, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- The question was really asked to politely raise the issue of Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and to alert you to the guidelines regarding somebody writing about themselves without declaring who they are. If you are Boyko, and you deny that you are him, you could be blocked from editing Wikipedia. If you are not Boyko, then there isn't an issue. I am avoiding asking you directly as I don't want to push you into a corner, though if you are Boyko it would be better if you said so, and if you are not Boyko it would be better if you said so. I am slightly uncomfortable with your vagueness about this matter. While you have a right to your privacy, the question of COI, fairness, integrity and openness would suggest that a clear statement of your connection (or not) with the subject of the article would make sense. To put it simply: If you are Boyko, by your honour please say so, as you have created and are editing an article about him. If you are not Boyko, then a simple statement to that effect wouldn't impact on your privacy at all, and would make things so much easier and clearer. SilkTork *YES! 11:41, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- To be honest I don't understand where do you read vagueness in my text.
- If you would like to hear the direct answer (though I've already made it), I repeat: I am not neither Boyko nor I am paid or receive any profit for my articles.
- If you don't trust me at this moment, I don't see any reasons why you should trust me after my answer.
- In any case, I think that the article would be better if we'll check every statement that I write here on my talk page and in articles. Claim of verifiability is the lighthouse that will never let us down. Best Regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 18:06, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- I don't recall seeing any direct answer - forgive me if you gave one and I missed it. I don't see it above, though if you say that you said it earlier somewhere else, then that is fine. Thank you for making that issue clearer. SilkTork *YES! 21:10, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- I have written "I have no profit for my Wikipedia articles". I was thinking it is enough. But it is my task to pass the meaning of my words. If I was not able to pass it without aberration, so it's my fault. So I ask your pardon. Best Regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 04:19, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary for your edits. Doing so helps everyone understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:38, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip! Explain me please, should I add edit summary every time I edit anything or I could skip it if I add info in the article that I have recently created? Best Regards, Doctor Zevago (talk) 08:47, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
