Speedy deletion of Ravelry

Please review what Wikipedia is not, you cannot use Wikipedia to promote another website, as Wikipedia uses special software and code, that allows for no-follow links, and therefore website rankings are not affected. Additionally, you cannot redirect Wikipedia articles to a website to increase traffic. Please review Wikipedia's core policies. Thanks, Ariel♥Gold 05:55, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

I would echo ArielGold's comments above; I believe you would find it useful to look at WP:WEB before you potentially recreate the Ravelry page, because as it stood it was what we call non-notable. Speedy deletion of Image:Ravelry Notebook Example.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:Ravelry Notebook Example.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days.

Reply to comment on talk page

Hello, Djd, I'd again like you to review the notability guideline that Wikipedia uses. What may be important to the users of a website, does not always translate into notability for an encyclopedia that relies on reliable, third party sources that provide fact-checking to verify information and notability. These are core policies of Wikipedia, and I realize that you may be unfamiliar with what Wikipedia is and is not, but please take a look, so you can understand why the page was deleted twice before, and why it may be deleted again. Yes, that is one way to verify notability, when a website is important, it will have been written up in news articles, journals, magazines, etc., (blogs, fan sites, and forums are not reliable sources). Yeah, unfortunately, blogs are not reliable, because they are written as the opinion of someone, (original research) without fact-checking, and they are not necessarily neutral, nor do they always present a balanced viewpoint. See this section of the verifiability policy. The exception would be blogs from reputable news agencies, like Anderson Cooper's CNN Blog, or the New York Times blogs, those kinds of things, when they are written by news personnel and subject to the news agencies editorial control. If the site is new, then it is likely not notable per Wikipedia's guideline. If the site becomes quite popular, and gets published by media agencies or wins major web awards, then you can revisit the idea of creating the article, but at this point, the only source I could find is this one, and it only mentions the site, saying it is "an online knit and crochet community", it does not give information about the site that could verify the article's contents. Idea

If you'd like to work on existing articles, I'm sure that there are so many articles that could use your expertise in the area, Knitting, Crochet, Embroidery, Needlework, and all the pages in the arts and crafts categories I'm sure! There might even be a WikiProject related to crafts you could join. You can start with learning the basics, from Wikipedia's manual of style, layout guide, article development, and how to edit, and how to cite a source, (citation templates here), and find a whole bunch of stuff to work on! Hope you enjoy it here, I realize it may be discouraging when your first attempt here is deleted, but don't let it get you down, there are lots of other things you may find to do around here!
