HI Regarding Comparison in Kannada article

[edit]

Yes my friend, I will explain, According to the statement, It says that the TULU language and Kannada Language evaluated about the same time from a proto Dravidian source. So the statement will be like "The spoken language is said to have separated from its old proto-Dravidian source about the same time as Tulu." What is the relevancy in putting tamil there, here you are trying to confuse the readers by comparing the proto-Dravidian Language with Tamil, you can do this in article regarding proto-Dravidian language. You can compare Kannada with tamil directly, it will be very much relevant to the article dinesh. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IndiWorld (talkcontribs) 05:01, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Art

[edit]

I was only referring to the citation on that same line, a few words ahead. One of the two notes, is for dvaita.org and I searched for Sanskrit. In any case, I agree it doesn't clearly mention that he did compose in Sanskrit. But, by the same token, we cannot say he only composed in Kannada, without citation. Your note on my talk page only makes a statement that he preached in Kannada. We cannot take that statement and say *all* the songs he composed were in Kannada only. I leave it to you to cite the Kannada part of the statement. Lotlil 14:03, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. That seems reasonable, but I clearly remember reading (not now, but back in school) that he has composed sanskrit works... they even had us memorise the names of few of the works. In any case, I need to come up with verifiable sources to put it here. Until then, just Kannada is good. Lotlil 14:22, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A quick web search produced this, from http://www.karnatik.com/co1004.shtml
Purandara Daasa is said to have composed 475,000 songs in both KannaDa and SanskritLotlil 14:38, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree that an article needs to have an author to be deemed reliable, as long as the publication is reliable. If a web site or a newspaper publishes an article, irrespective of whether an author is mentioned in it or not, the onus of making sure it's authentic falls on the publication. In any case, this doesn't matter much now, since I found another link which "seems" more scholarly to me. Here's the relevant part: Purandara Dasa a prolific composer is credited with as many as 4,75,000 songs, mostly in Sanskrit and Kannada. I'm still trying to find the exact names of the works in Sanskrit, neither my memory nor google seem to be helping there. Lotlil 16:32, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your own Logic

[edit]

Try to recollect the logic you played on me in the talk page of Origin of Vijayanagar Empire. By the same parameter I advise you to ask Adluri (his email ID is available in his website) and Dr Durga Prasad, Professor of History, Univ. of Hyderabad) for any clarifications. Hypocrisy does not pay. Kumarrao 17:16, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Similar parameter

[edit]

Again, going by the parameter mentioned by you [[WP:UNDUE}} and which I totally agree, you also should share the blame because you engaged in similar exercises earlier. You have deleted my inputs totally from Chalukya dynasty and Vijayanagar empire simply because they were not suitable to your views. Your revert to my innocuous edit in Chalukya dynasty shows how intolerant you are. Kumarrao 06:41, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir: Thank you for your kind note. I have read your user page, and I must confess to being impressed. I have been interested in India ever since having studied Indian philosophy in university. I read Wikipedia articles about India for my own interest. As an English teacher, I am a bit of a perfectionist and can't help but make changes when I feel dissatisfied. Mudslinging

[edit]
  • You are engaging in the worst form of mudslinging against fellow Users. Show me an evidence that Adluri was a novice and a student. He collated enormous amount of historical information laboriously from various sources and humbly put before the readers. Is this the respect you have for others?
  • You depend heavily upon a Karnataka website (www.ourkarnataka.com) as an authentic source of history but make most unkind allegations about a scholarly work.
  • You have deleted two citations from Chalukya dynasty on the basis of minority opinion but discussed various theories of Chalukya origin without any citation. Is it not hypocrisy of the meanest level?
  • Bhattiprolu script, a variant of Asokan Brahmi, is well-known to every liguist, historian and epigraphist and that it gave rise to Telugu and Tamil scripts. See the authentic references (books published by Oxford and Cambridge universities) in the talk page of Telugu script.
  • You made an immature and petty remark that I am treating Wiki as a Guntur newspaper. By the same standards and going by your behaviour in Wiki all your contributions in Wiki can be termed as Wikikannadopedia. That too, your only sources are Kamat Potpourri and ourkarnataka.com.

I read your post on User:Kumarrao's page. I'm fine with it except "Guntur newspaper", which was in bad taste. Just FYI most of the Telugus in the US are from or originally from Guntur or Guntur district.

Please read this carefully Mr. Dinesh. The way some users (may not be you) are hell-bent on having their way, for nothing except ego-boosting , in the virtual world, is simply shocking and beyond my comprehension. Out of the little that we take out, of our precious time for Wikipedia, every other day we get to see this nonsense of this user fighting that user... Wikipedia is so vast that there are so many articles in dire need of help, and we are sparring over these petty issues.

These articles are only for conveying some information to people, most of whom would for sure miss out the facts we're (may not acually be us. using it generally) fighting for. I'm really at a loss to understand. Please help me if you I can, I doubt if you can, like me. Couldn't the sparring and duelling users collaborate and do something meaningful in Wikipedia. To tell you the truth I've just learnt to do basic reading of Telugu. I normally edit a vast number of topics and entered into this mess only because of this unfortunate warring. If you agree, please convey this to anybody who may be involved in unpleasant issues. Eager to know your feedback/criticism. Thanking You, AltruismTo talk 12:24, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dinesh, a comment in FAC was regarding adding info about freedom fighters from 18th and 19th century Karnataka in the History section. Can you please add some info whenever you get some time? Thanks, Gnanapiti 03:08, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hi Dinesh, I was wondering if you are familiar with featured topics? I think it is possible to turn the string of articles you have featured so far into a featured series, with the "The medieval history of Karnataka" being the main article. Obviously, all the sub-topics in that article would have to either be featured or good. But worth looking into!--Blacksun 08:55, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Lakkundi Brahma Jainalya.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lakkundi Brahma Jainalya.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:08, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:Lakkundi Brahma Jainalaya.JPG. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Lakkundi Brahma Jainalya.JPG. The copy called Image:Lakkundi Brahma Jainalya.JPG has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 12:15, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dinesh, now you are fine. The first image has been speedily deleted because it was found redundant after you uploaded it second time with different name. The second image has GNU free licensing information, added by you. So there is no issue about it. I have removed the tag saying, 'the image is duplicate' as the redundant image is already deleted. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you. - KNM Talk 13:30, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually in the future, if you want to add license information for an image, you can do so without having to delete/re-upload the image. You can just say "Edit this page" for the image and add appropriate license. Gnanapiti 20:54, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back

[edit]

Hope you had a good trip. And happy photographing. On that note, it would proably be more conveneient if you got a commons account. That way your photos can be used by all wikimedia projects without having to upload everywhere. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:33, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I endorse the suggestion. It's very important that Dinesh uploads his images to Commons. Might consume some time considering the huge collection of images, but it's worth doing it. Gnanapiti 15:45, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know unfortunately there is no option to move the image to a different title. But you can always re-upload the image under correct name and request speedy deletion of old image. Btw, I just noticed that you have uploaded more than 380 images to Wikipedia! That's huge. It might take days together to transfer images from here to Commons! From now on, I think it's better you start uploading images to Commons instead of Wikipedia, if you have anymore images to upload. One more thing, those people are very strict about licensing in Commons. I had few of my images deleted within 5 minutes of uploading! But you shouldn't have any problems since all your images are self made. Gnanapiti 21:00, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have to create an account in Commons just as you do in Wikipedia. Creating with same account name is possible and I would prefer doing that. Once you create your account, say upload file. It will take you to a screen where it asks for source of the work. Select "It is entirely my own work". There are few instructions on the next page. There is a fixed format to provide summary to the file for which the template will automatically appear. While selecting the license, I think it's better to select "GFDL, CC-BY-SA-3.0". If you are uploading the same images which are present in Wikipedia, you can request speedy deletion of Wikipedia images once you upload there with the desired name. Only thing is you have to make sure you don't miss to link them appropriately in the articles used. Gnanapiti 21:41, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well if you upload the images to wikipedia, the usage of images is restricted to only en.wiki articles. You can't use the image in any other wiki project. But if you upload the images to Commons, all wikiprojects can share those images. For example, if German wikipedia wants to use Hampi images uploaded to English wikipedia, they can't do so. But if the images are available in Commons they are free to use. Since images of Hampi, Belur etc are most likely to be used in more than one wiki project, it's advisable to upload those images to Commons. No, it's not that complex as it sounds. Takes only half a minute to upload an image. Gnanapiti 21:50, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh! That's quite a job you are saying. I'm not sure whether we can transfer the image. May be Blnguyen can help us here. But as far as my limited knowledge goes, there isn't any way to transfer images between different wiki projects. Gnanapiti 22:09, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes sir, for each and every article, for each and every image, unless the image is uploaded under same name. But that can be done collaboratively. But it's a tedious job, I agree. Gnanapiti 22:13, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scripts

[edit]

Im glad u asked me this. From many days im requesting Gnanapiti to allow Marathi script in Kumarjis and Pandit Bhimsenji's article. But he is removing the Marathi script without any explaination. Rahul Dravid a Marathi but settled in Kar has both language scripts, but Kumarji (who from Kar but a Marathi speaking person) and Panditji (a kannada person but equally popular in MH) articles only kannada script is used. I will request u to allow both scripts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stateofart (talkcontribs) 13:32, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

Panditji lives in Pune Maharashtra and a milestone in Marathi music history. He belongs to Maharashtra as much to karnataka. So Marathi script is necessary. Even Rahul Dravid is a Marathi but kannada script is needed since he lives in bangalore karnataka. Kumar Gandharva is not kannada person still kannada script is there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stateofart (talkcontribs) 13:40, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

Sawaiji is Marathi speaker. His name itself shows it. Panditji lives in Pune,Maharashtra. If Marathi script should not appear on Panditji's article why should Kannada script should come in Rahul Dravid's article? See the 3 newsclip i have added to Drvaid's page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stateofart (talkcontribs) 10:49, August 28, 2007 (UTC)

On Ganga administration

[edit]

Dinesh,

Im PonDheepankar who gave information on Kongunadu Gounders. Even today we have oor gounders and nattu gounders in our community. further in our region

name of region: Ganganadu (tamil for Konga nadu) language: Gangee (also called Kongu Tamil)(Wilkins) capital: Kangeyam (Gangeyam in sanskrit)(kongu desa rajakkal) people: Kongu Vellala Gounders (gangakulam in sanskrit)

thus it is obvious that todays Kongu Vellala [[Gounder (caste)] must have been the origin of the Ganga dynasty. Moreover we have placenames like Kokka rayan pete (remember King mushkara was also kalled kokkara) and Kokkari kadu —Preceding unsigned comment added by PONDHEEPANKAR (talkcontribs) 03:47, 1 September 2007 (UTC) Sawaiji is termed as Rambhau Kundgolkar in almost all pages except 2 which u mentioned. His daughter appears in many Marathi shows and names as Kalapini Kundgolkar. So i have kept both of them. His contribution to Marathi theater/music has made him popular in MH just as Panditji. Marathi script is hence very much necessary on both. U named sawaiji and went ahead to remove it from Panditji's article too.Other important point is that Sawaiji and Panditji live in Maharashtra. Rahul Dravid is a Marathi person and i have atleast 3 websites to prove. Still Kannada script exists and tht too before Marathi script. Please dont remove Marathi scripts on either of them or remove kannada from dravid's page. (Stateofart 10:32, 2 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Dravidian template

[edit]

This template isn't about the Dravidian movement (Anti-Brahmin movement started by a Kannadiga, EVR in TN) The template deals with Dravidian civilization. I agree there was consensus, that a lot needs to be improved with the article or a re-write; requiring contributions from all quarters.

Indians are a mix of many many races. None, can claim to be purely from one race. The Dravidian race is predominant in South India. But again none claim to be pure Dravidian or Aryan. It has generally been observed esp. in the South-Indian population, that as one goes down the caste hierarchy, the amount of "Dravidian-ness" increases while the "Aryan-ness" decreases. A hint is from the skin colour. Dravidians may also include the Brahui from Balochistan. The only information is due to the language spoken, which is Dravidian. Again as in S. India there could have been considerable inter-breeding with other races, and as a result a considerable dilution of the "Dravidian-ness." Any clarifications, please ask. --AltruismT a l k - Contribs. 06:13, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't made anything simple. It still is complex issue. I haven't reached any conclusion in the above post. So seems you've either misunderstood or jumping to conclusions. What's KRV by the way? Least of all, I don't have to hear it from you about "Indian" nonsense. We all know who's narrow-minded, race/state/language chauvanistic.
