Another advice request

[edit]

Hi Jossi

I also am a proud student of Maharaji, and have been since I first met him in 1971. I acknowledge you for your part in the incredible transformation of the Prem Rawat article over the last couple of years.

I would like to ask your advice on how to proceed with another article which appears to me to be being hijacked by a small but vocal group who wish to mount an orchestrated smear campaign directed against Landmark Education. Since last May, the balance of the article has been strongly shifted in a manner which appears to me to violate the WP:NPOV policy by giving undue weight to what are in fact insignificant minority opinions. Much of this has been at the hands of user:smeelgova who has made thousands of edits on this and related topics, including creating many articles on individuals which may well violate the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policies. Many of these include a large number of links to the Rick Ross website and similar activists. He also often reverts instantly the edits of other users and frequently makes accusations of vandalism. Attempts to engage him in debate seem to be met by a variety of rhetorical devices, but no real dialog. I would appreciate any suggestions you have. thanks Dexton 18:18, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome! Yes. I have encoutered smeelgova in some articles. I will take a look. ≈ jossi ≈ t@ 18:33, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I personally resent these personal attacks from this editor who has never personally engaged me in discussion on any of the talk pages. I have tried with my utmost to only edit using cited sources in blockquoted referenced format, and to engage editors of opposing opinions on the talk pages. I have even engaged in dialogue to a detailed extent so as to reach consensus with editors of opposing viewpoints before changing material in question. I am also relatively new to Wikipedia, and it is hurtful to be attacked in this manner whilst endeavouring to cite sources in the proper manner. Thank you for your time. Yours, Smeelgova 23:25, 17 October 2006 (UTC).[reply]

  • Welcome! I have not encountered you before but I would like for you to try to have an open mind whilst engaging me in discussion. If you have a particular problem with some of my edits and/or discussion patterns on talk pages, I would most appreciate it if you would complain to me first directly, rather than going around and complaining to other users or administrators. Thank you for your time and I hope we can have an amiable experience discussing and editing articles together after reaching consensus. Yours, Smeelgova 23:27, 17 October 2006 (UTC).[reply]
    • Thank you. I am sorry that you interpreted my message as a personal attack. It was not intended as such, nor as a complaint. It was an informal request for advice. I would love to think that it would be a worthwhile exercise to debate with you, but my observations of the way you conduct yourself leave me with the impression that it would be futile and frustrating. It seems to me that the pattern of your edits, the manner of your engaging in discussion, and your attitude to 'consensus' are all amply demonstrated by your actions rather than your protestations. Dexton 10:00, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • I'm sorry you feel that way. I am no longer editing Wikipedia, for various reasons. However I was most disappointed with the manner in which editors deal with each other during conflict resolution. It seems most here on Wikipedia have forgotten the rule of do unto others as you would have them do unto yourself. I am also disappointed in your response, though it's irrelevant for we won't have a chance to edit together anyway. I would have thought that someone such as yourself would have been able to keep a more open mind in the matter, and hold personal judgements until interacting/discussing issues with me directly. It is disappointing that you formed judgements and assumptions based on my supposed interactions with others, and didn't give me a chance to talk with you first. Oh well, have fun editing Wikipedia, I hope you find it to be a more warm and open and caring atmosphere than I did. Yours, Smeelgova 12:17, 28 October 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Accusation against you

[edit]

Hi Dexton

Are you still active in wikiepedia? - and if so are you aware of this accusation against you: [Proposed_topic_ban_on_Landmark_Education_SPAs] even though you don't seem to have edited since Sept 06, and only did a single edit on Landmark related topics anyway.
