Also, I have proposed Elizabeth Macarthur because the article does not set out in what way she meets inclusion criteria in WP:BIO and is therefore liable to be speedily deleted under WP:CSD criterion A7. Sorry about all the technical lingo, but if after reading it you have questions about it, let me know. If she's a super notable lady, other than being married to her husband, do set that out in the article. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 04:17, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi Crazy Russian
No problems, always happy for advice.
My reason for creating a page on Elizabeth Macarthur is that she was an important woman (there were few) in the early colony and was important for its society, the she herself made a large contribution to the establishment of the wool industry apart from her husband. And that as such she is an important figure for feminism in Australia.
This means that there also a feminist cause that argues that her contributions was is not reguarded properly and she is reduced to footnote in her husbands bio when she managed his business interests in the country for nine years. Thus the matter is controversial and such comments will be posted on Macarthurs page (and were) trying to give her equal billing; so I figure her own page would provide a good place for that and others would expand on it.
I personally don't really have lot say it about (my sources of course reduce her to a foot note :), but will have a go. But its not my decision, happy for the processes to sort it out (and interested to learn about them).

Elizabeth Macarthur
[edit]The article was restored. It is a pity that User:CrazyRussian couldn't even be bothered to google Elizabeth Macarthur before nominating the article for deletion - he would have found, as one would expect, many many hits including the first ten are all about the lady. The article was discussed at the Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board #Elizabeth Macarthur. Perhaps the salutary lesson as your introduction to Wikipedia is to make sure it is apparent why the topic is worthy of an encycopaedia article. While I as an Australian knew, editors from other countries would probably not have known (as was apparent from their actions). Some Australians aren't even that clued up as can be seen from the discussion on the noticeboard - User Harro5 is in high school and I am not sure what they teach them there these days :-)
So welcome to Wikipedia. As an editor on Australian topics you may well be interested in the Australian discussions - the notice board can be reached by the shortcut WP:AWNB . --A Y Arktos\talk 09:52, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Referencing
[edit]Your recent edits said "will learn proper referencing when I have time:)". A useful link is at Wikipedia:Footnotes.
The basic formats are by way of example:
*
which gives
- Conway, Jill (1967). "Macarthur, Elizabeth (1766 - 1850)". Australian Dictionary of Biography. Australian National University. Retrieved 2006-06-04.
cite web
: Cite has empty unknown parameter:|coauthors=
(help)
to cite as a footnote you use
- then to call on the same note later use in text:

- and then to view the notes you need to put in a References section for the article with the following:
References
Hope this all helps. Regards--A Y Arktos\talk 09:52, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Links
[edit]- Please don't use quod vide (q.v.) - it is appropriate for text; hyperlinks are in effect a q.v. system--A Y Arktos\talk 10:03, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hyperlinking using text item is generally the way to go (shortcut is the third button immediately above the editing window showing an Ab underlined. If you really want people to look further you could add a See also subsection towards the end of the article. Info on links is at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links) and on See also is at Wikipedia:Guide to layout#See also.
More general confusion (or hopefully clarification) to throw your way is Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies). The page includes a link to other style guides.--A Y Arktos\talk 10:52, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Yep. See Also sounds like what I want. Dewatf 10:58, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
