Your edit to List of Rebel: The Network affiliates

Doesn't matter. The information was all fictitious anyway, having to do with giving the "affiliates" new "call letters" so that I could use it for personal reasons. The page is now blank, and I am asking for its complete removal.Desmond Hobson 18:32, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Tawkerbot,
I am writing you because I understand that you labeled the Buddy Wayne Barefoot page with the "hoax" label. In response, I will make two points:
- The page was not intended to be a hoax. It was for my personal use only, under the permission that Chris Black granted me last month. The idea was to make up the page, print it out, then erase the content to ensure that only entries that meet the standard of verifiability are on Wikipedia. I do not wish to take up valuable hard-drive space on your servers. Unfortunately, Wikipedia pages are not WYSIWYG; they have different fonts when printed out, and also, the links are not visible. Therefore, I must save the page on your server so I can, if only briefly, see the page as it was intended to look. In the case of the BWB page, I hit "save" earlier than planned, and someone saw it as a hoax and put in the label.
- However, I can no longer afford to take any chances with the anti-vandalism system and therefore must vow never to make up these pages again. I must take seriously your efforts to keep Wikipedia the site that it was intended to be. I have also made many legitimate contributions as a Wikipedian and I would like to keep my good name.
Desmond Hobson 16:26, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Please refrain from adding nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to Coldplay. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. How to use edit summaries
[edit]When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. —Whomp [T] [C] 22:25, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
New disclaimer on edit pages
[edit]I have noticed that the edit pages now have a disclaimer against its use for vanity and advertising purposes.
- Exactly when was this added?
- Is this really a widespread problem?
- Has Wikipedia actually sued anyone over these rules?

Unblock request
[edit]unblock|apparent administrator confusion
Earlier, I reported that the reason for the block had to do with my use of the sandbox. However, as I have thought some more, I don't think that is what happened.
The reason given was I that had blanked out nihonjoe's user page. Believe me, this never happened. In fact, I had not heard of nihonjoe until the moment I was told I was being blocked. I had expected to give some updates and to put a couple of new pages online today when I received the news.
Some sort of confusion must have happened, and he may well have blocked the wrong page.
Hopefully, nihonjoe, who I understand can be very busy at times, will see only this newest version of the page and not any of the ones I placed earlier. I also hope that he will unblock me in the next few hours, so that I don't have to wait until Saturday afternoon (my time) to resume my editing privileges.
Thank you.
My IP address is 65.116.143.83.
Please solve this problem as quickly as possible. Thank you.--Desmond Hobson 21:18, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- It seems that someone has been abusing your IP address. See Special:Contributions/65.116.143.83. Sorry, but I think you might just have to wait this one out. It's not your fault but all it takes is one bad user on an IP... Sasquatch t|c 18:04, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Followup on block
[edit]Sasquatch, you suspected that something was wrong with my IP address, and after last night, I think you're right.
Early Saturday morning (about 1 am), I was able to edit pages as normal. This was within the 48-hour period that nihonjoe had blocked me for. Earlier, I was blocked while trying to edit from a public library near my home. Therefore, I think the problem has something to do with a lock of some kind placed by that library.
I do know that the library blocks some pages otherwise available; for example, MySpace. Was it the case here? All I know is that the block ended Saturday afternoon.--Desmond Hobson 08:21, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
AfD Gameshow Marathon show ummaries
[edit]Dear Desmond,
Thank you for making your points on the Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Gameshow_Marathon_show_summaries page: it has helped me understand what you were trying to do on your user page. I see now that you've edited it slightly by bunning the 'future' template on it. I wonder, however, if I could make a suggestion?
Most user pages are summaries of the user themselves and the opionions they hold, and do not really deal with subjects that should have articles themselves in the main encyclopaedia space. When you wrote that piece of wrestling, I thought that it might be an article that you had put on your user page by mistake. Now that you have told me that it is a 'dream article' I understand.
To avoid others reaching the same conclusion, it might be a good idea to remove the 'future' template and added something that shows instantly that the wrestling article is intimately linked with you. Something along the following, perhaps?
If I ruled the World, we'd have articles like... |
---|
As regards your article Gameshow Marathon show summaries, I'm afraid many people will agree that it is not suitable. It is a very long list of information that will be seen as indiscriminate and unencyclopaedic. The length of the article is also at odds with the article's title. Most summaries are maybe four paragraphs long. --die Baumfabrik 14:02, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- I came here to post something similar, but to suggest using the userpage template instead. Alternatively, many users who write content in their userspace put it on a subpage such as User:Desmond Hobson/sandbox so that they can work on it and link others to it without cluttering up their main page. (For the record, I don't actually care what you put in your userspace, but I found the juxtaposition of subjects funny.) Opabinia regalis 16:19, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
It's done!
[edit]Opabinia and Baumfabrik, your wish has been granted! Click on the link if you're interested. I plan to change the page every few days. In the meantime, I have changed the main user page so that it has factual information.
Markups
[edit]Desmond, don't worry about changing the race names. We're setting it up so the old race names will redirect to the current name. There's no reason to change them with the pipe link. --D-Day I'm all ears How can I improve? 22:10, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Alright, D-Day, change it back. But that's lots of hard work down the drain. (sigh)
Then again, there is no link to the name "GM FlexFuel 250" anyway.

[edit]Any announcements on MyTV affiliation? I haven't seen any.--CFIF (talk to me) 18:52, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- I got the information from Chip Kelly's web site, which cited the MNTV affiliates' page. I also did the citation on the affiliates' list page, right before the actual list of stations. I suggest that you read it again.--Desmond Hobson 18:58, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- How reliable is that site though? It's certainly not official. --CFIF (talk to me) 19:04, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know how to answer that one, except to maybe wait a few days. At some point, the station should also make the announcement, unless the deal is totally screwed up, like the CW messed up with KAUT and KUVI.--Desmond Hobson 19:10, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Sandbox2
[edit]Would it be possible for you to leave the categories off your sandbox2 articles? Unfortunately the categorization doesn't stay within your userspace, so your sandbox2 is now featuring in a number of real categories. Cheers Yomanganitalk 00:45, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Although I put in the categories on the page in an effort to make it look as realistic as possible, I will abide by your suggestion.--Desmond Hobson 00:51, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- You could do something like this (which would maintain the look and functionality without actually adding the page to the categories):
<div id="catlinks"> <p class='catlinks'> Categories: Living people | Sharks | Children </p> </div>
Yomanganitalk 01:08, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! Your suggestions worked like a charm!--Desmond Hobson 21:35, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:NFLReplay programbox3 210-1-.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:NFLReplay programbox3 210-1-.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit]I've nominated Wolfe+585, Senior, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Wolfe+585, Senior satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wolfe+585, Senior and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). PGA Tour Fall Series (01-23-07)
[edit]Greetings ....
Saw where you created the Fall Series page, which covers PGA Tour events occuring after the FedEx Cup portion of the Tour Schedule. Everything with the page is in order except for its Wikipedia title, which is just "Fall Series".
Feeling that "PGA Tour" needed to be included in the title name, I transferred everything over to this page --- PGA Tour Fall Series, to which the Fall Series page will now re-direct to.
Just wanted to let you know. Feel free to look me up.
Thanx-A-Lot and Enjoy, Frank

Problem with template
[edit]I have just added Template:Sports television in the United States to Wikipedia as a way for people to see the various sports networks at a glance. However, I have still not gotten it to work exactly as I want it. The network names are supposed to be centered, but all of them are flush to the left right now. Hello, Desmond Hobson. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Bbrister.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Desmond Hobson/sandbox2. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 01:22, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Desmond Hobson. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:BrittanyLSpears.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Desmond Hobson. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 07:26, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Steve Beverly
[edit]I have added a "prod" template to the article Steve Beverly, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
- I feel like such a bonehead!:( I have just been reminded that I could have kept the article from deletion by going to the talk page, but now it's too late! I blame myself for this for not responding in a timely matter, but I also blame the server at TVGameShows.net. When the server was changed due to financial issues, some of the information was lost, including a detailed biography that could have helped justify Beverly's inclusion on Wikipedia. Union University does not have such a bio on the web, either. - Desmond Hobson 17:19, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Redirect of Bonnie Blackstone
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Bonnie Blackstone, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Bonnie Blackstone is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Bonnie Blackstone, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Bonnie Blackstone itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 05:07, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- My mistake, "bot." (It's odd talking to a bot, isn't it?) Anyway, I should have removed the redirect page once the old page was deleted. I still think that there should be a Boni Blackstone page (as well as a Joe Pedicino page) because both appeared on national televised professional wrestling shows briefly in the 1990s. In case you did not know, Pedicino was on syndicated WCW shows and World Class while Blackstone was on World Class/USWA/GWF on ESPN. I know there has been some debate about this in the pro wrestling project as to whether or not they were notable. I say that they were. - Desmond Hobson 17:07, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

July 2007
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Boogers, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Tlesher 13:37, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to Boogers, you will be blocked from editing. Tlesher 13:39, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I understand your advice and will take it. However, it is also true that there is a weakness in the anti-vandalism system at Wikipedia. As I wrote in my sandbox about three months ago, pages that are removed or blanked due to vandalism are treated differently on the Wikipedia server. If the article is an original namespace (I hope that's the right term), and there is vandalism, its entire history is removed. But if the vandalism is from a redirect page, the page is then retained in the article history and anyone can click onto it. Although I stumbled onto this weakness by accident, I want to share my experiences in hopes of improving the product and upholding the reputation of Wikipedia content. Honestly, I think that vandalized redirect pages should be treated the same as the original namespace pages - not to be mentioned in page histories. Anything you can do to change this is appreciated. My only other mistake is in doing this over and over and over again. One or two examples to prove my point should have been enough. From my own "archive" on my computer hard drive, I have counted 37 such vandalisms of re-directs, and some pages were re-done four or five times. - Desmond Hobson 13:55, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and I forgot to do this earlier: To all users of Wikipedia who have been offended by my vandalism, I offer my sincerest apologies. Eventually, despite the weaknesses detailed above, all the responsibility that has brought me to this point is mine. - Desmond Hobson 14:02, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Redirects become fake articles then go back to redirects?
[edit]Could you please explain what you are doing with these? e.g. Betty Jean McBricker, Bobo Bates, Little Buddy, Brittany Spears, Brett Bartlett, etc.? Thanks! Ewlyahoocom 07:58, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Sure. As I have explained several times, it has to do with the fact that a vandalized page based on a redirect stays in the history file, but a vandalism that creates a new namespace is erased and not shown in the history file. This is a huge inconsistency that Wikipedia has to address as soon as possible. For more information, and examples, see my user page.
The most recent redirects were minor edits. One of my characters' hometowns was Reidville, South Carolina, which I misspelled as "Reidsville" earlier. In another case, there was a fake "photo" file which I removed. Finally, on the "Brittany Spears" re-edit, I removed a template that was applied by another user.
Thanks for your interest. Now that the point has been made, I will avoid all such shenanigans in the future. - Desmond Hobson 18:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- You're confused: there's nothing special about redirects, vandal edits stay in the histories of any vandalized page. See also Wikipedia:Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point. Ewlyahoocom 18:47, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ewlyahoocom, I have read and understood the page in question and I also understand the possible consequences of further disruption. Fair use rationale for Image:NFLTA_programbox2_125x40-1-.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:NFLTA_programbox2_125x40-1-.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ~ Wikihermit 02:14, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bonniemacbird.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Bonniemacbird.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:58, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Gary Miller (sportscaster)
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Gary Miller (sportscaster), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Brandy Roderick
[edit]You seemed a little unsure yourself if Brandy Roderick warranted a separate article or should be a redirect to Brande Roderick - all the links on the Brandy page seem to be dead now and I can't find any ref's to her. Do you have any that confirm her notability? I'm tempted otherwise to turn it back into redirect. Regards Hunting dog (talk) 12:51, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- That was an accident. I had meant to press the "show preview" button instead of the "save page" button. You know about recovering alcoholics, right? Well, I am a "recovering vandal" and I also am aware of the new software that you now have in place to try to prevent vandalism. That page changed so fast that it looks like the software was used in this case. Believe me, I did not want that page to go on Wikipedia, and again I apologize for hitting the wrong button. You also have my permission to make it a redirect again, as intended. - Desmond Hobson (talk) 05:50, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

I sort of expected it. Once Britt left Southern Miss and didn't land in the NFL, I knew that this page's days were numbered. Maybe if Britt and Hollie had, just as an example, been cast on the ABC series Here Come the Newlyweds, there might have been a chance. I wish Britt all the best in his future life. However, I can't believe this page is being eliminated by a bot! I hope that the next time it happens, it comes from a real human being.[sigh] - Desmond Hobson (talk) 09:04, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Nice catch — I'd earlier reverted a change to the KAMP disambiguation page because the FCC didn't reflect a change of callsign, but it's (partly) updated on their site now. Just one problem, though. According to the FCC, the new callsign is KAMP, so this article ought to be at KAMP (FM) rather than KAMP-FM. While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

[edit]Hi. When you recently edited 2012 East–West Shrine Game, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Charles Davis (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). I guess that being part of the soundtrack of a long-running soap opera wasn't enough, huh?[LOL]
Anyway, that's the only reason for its notability, but if that's not enough, go ahead and do what you want with it. I've had pages deleted before and I have learned to accept it.[sigh] - Desmond Hobson (talk)

File permission problem with File:Bwbarefoot.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Bwbarefoot.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 02:13, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Proposed solution to length issue
[edit]I have just placed on my sandbox page a list of every station that changed affiliation as a direct result of the switches, as well as a list of outlets that were part of the holding companies Fox invested in that Fox chose not to include. The chart itself is a little ragged, but it's a good start toward what I hope will be a finished product acceptable to go into Wikipedia.
Another idea is for a realignment page covering 1994 through 2006. Content would include the affiliation changes for CBS in Jacksonville and NBC in the San Francisco Bay Area, how hundreds of independent stations joined two new networks en masse, and the switch of alliances of Sinclair Broadcast Group from UPN to the WB. - Desmond Hobson (talk) 23:42, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
