Kirsty Neary

Hi I’m a new user from the Glasgow arts and literature scene and as a number of key Scottish people appear to missing from Wikipedia I was hoping to submit articles and edit existing ones.

My first entry and I believed to be a strong one surprising seems to have been rejected. I fully understand that the internet is not a true representation of the real world and unfortunately you have to pull your research from net, but this does seem flawed in many ways. I submitted a published writer who regularly lectures, performs and is well known to the Scottish book trust and fellow Glasgow writers. One quick internet search tells me she is been on the radio several times this year yet none of this seems to have been captured.

I totally understand there has to be a process but to lose prominent locals who I know are regularly searched online just because of a lack of internet presence is disheartening and I don’t feel I want to continually face rejection each and every time I propose an article.

Hello there! Please don't be put off by what has happened with this article. It is currently being considered for deletion, but discussion will continue for a few days before a decision is made. The best thing to save the article at present would be if you could find some independent references that demonstrate that she is notable. These should be articles that are independent, i.e. not written by the author herself or her publisher. If you can find more reviews of her work that would be good. You mention Scottish Book Trust and radio appearances: if you can include references for these in the article that would help too. Good luck! --Deskford (talk) 10:10, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Hey thanks for the feedback, I’ve added as much content as time will allow including references/links and updated some more info. Do you have any idea when a decision will be made on this or if there is any way I can get involved in the process? It will be sad if every new Scottish writer I submit suffers the same fate, for me this is the benchmark.

At least seven days would normally be allowed for the discussion process. Sometimes if not many editors have commented the process may be left open for longer. You would be welcome to contribute to the discussion by adding a comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kirsty Neary --Deskford (talk) 16:35, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Nadia Boulanger Pupils List

Hello,

I am puzzled as to why you have removed my name (Albert Alan Owen) from the List of Nadia Boulanger Pupils. I was a pupil of hers for two years (1969 - 1970) and then frequently visited her for lesson right up to the Christmas before her death in 1979.

Further to Nadia Boulanger Pupil List

Hello,

I wonder if you could point me to any Wikipedia policy guidelines that I have breached by including my name on this list. Is it policy, for example, that all people mentioned in such lists should have articles written about them on Wikipedia before they can be listed?

It's not a strict rule that people on lists should have articles first. Some lists do allow what we call "redlinks", i.e. links to pages that don't yet exist, on the assumption that the page will be created soon. However many lists are now restricted to links to existing pages only, especially when they are lists that include living people. Even on lists that do allow redlinks, it is a requirement that a reliable reference is provided that verifies that the person concerned fulfils both the list criteria and the general notability criteria.
