Louise Allardyce
Dear Deskford, yes I am new to Wikipedia and not completely familiar with the protocol. I added a link for Louise Allardyce to Fyvie as she is an artist and weaver living in Fyvie who has painted many landscapes round and about the village and has recently received a Craft Maker's Award from Aberdeenshire Council. As such I feel that her work is of cultural interest to Fyvie. It would be nice if people living in Fyvie were allowed to showcase what is happening at the moment not just historic events. Thank you. - Hello, and apologies for the delay in replying. The usual Wikipedia policy is that external links should only be added if they are directly relevant to the article. In this case, Louise Allardyce is not otherwise mentioned in the article on Fyvie, so the link appeared not to be relevant. The normal approach for people associated with a place would be to include them in a "Notable people" section — see Ellon for example — and for the people to be listed as internal links to Wikipedia articles on them as individuals. As far as I can see there is no Wikipedia article on Louise Allardyce — normally taken as an indication of notability — so if you think she qualifies as notable your first step would be to create an article on her. See WP:PEOPLE for an indication of the criteria that are used to judge whether or not a person is regarded as notable. If you do create an article, be sure to include references to independent third party sources to verify the content or you will probably find someone proposes deleting it fairly quickly. See WP:BLPSOURCES for more on what counts as a reliable source for a biographical article. I should also point out that if you have any personal connection with Louise Allardyce you should be cautious about creating an article on her, or you could be accused of a conflict of interest. See WP:COI for the guidelines and policy on conflict of interest. I hope this doesn't all sound too daunting, but I'm sure you'll understand that Wikipedia needs to have quite stringent policies to discourage people from using it for promotional purposes. Best wishes! --Deskford (talk) 23:56, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
