Yoga

[edit]

HI , I did make changes to Yoga because the correct pronunciation is "Yoag" not "Yoga" It makes non native speakers pronounce it incorrectly

Why did you just revert my article??

[edit]

Dear Hexer, I don't know if I am writing this in the correct place, I hope so. I have just spent all night -- about 5 hours -- revising the article on my father, the German-American artist Alfred Zwiebel, because I found a note on it saying it might be removed because it had no third-party references or "notability." I therefore revised the article to try to comply with these requirements (even though it wasn't exactly clear what they demanded). I put in an extensive list of my father's exhibitions, as well as several press critiques, with references and citations. All this seems to me to have made the article more substantiated and to be evidence of its "notability" (I was modeling the format on the Wikipedia article on German artist Joseph Beuys). But after all my work, you came and erased all my work because it was "unconstructive." Why? Can you please explain? Neidhart (talk) 10:31, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strange, I don't know what happened. This edit seems to be made by mistake. Sorry! Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:02, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A warm welcome to the English Wikipedia, dear Hexer! If you have questions, please don't ask on my talk page, because I'm not active here. Just ask one of these people. Most of them are happy to help (but only if nobody stole their passwords, of course). :o) We (I don't mean myself very much but rather the community of the English Wikipedia) look forward to your contributions! So we will wait a longer time until I can nominate someone for adminship here afte at de:WP ;) (for the others: DerHexer is already Administrator e at the german-language-Wikipedia and I had nominate him there for the election). I have made a small contribution to the Article Easter bunny, concerning the origin of the Easter bunny tradition. As I suggest that many user will read the article, please feel free to check and perhaps change it. I have tried to name my sources. Furthermore I have the feeling, - in observing the history of the Article – that last night there were signs of a beginning edit war ? Perhaps you should watch a little bit to the article. Hallo Hexer!

Du kennst mich ja aus de. ;) Oben genannter Benutzer hat massenweise URVen hochgeladen. Die habe ich alle markiert. So weit so gut.

Also alles eigentlich sogar SLA-würdig (zumindest in de wäre es SLA-würdig). Chaddy (talk) 01:34, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mittlerweile wurden die Bilder überraschend gelöscht... Gut, mal schauen, was Mic of orion dazu sagt. Chaddy (talk) 03:16, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
—DerHexer (Talk) 10:05, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Layer in the shaft?

[edit]

Schicht im Schacht = Layer in the shaft, according to Google translator.

What's that mean? 21655 τalk/ ʃign 23:27, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Es ist definitiv nicht Stonkers? :-)
BTW, of the three Stonkers pages, the German one is the only one which doesn't mention the "It's definitely not Stonkers" in-joke, of which the above is a (BabelFish, hence crude) translation. -- 217.171.129.73 (talk) 15:50, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, Hexer has a "duty in the mineshaft", whatever that may mean. Schicht could mean "layer", but could also mean "duty", "working service", or "shift", as well as a shift of workers or labourers. Schaft means "shaft", often a "mineshaft". - Face 20:42, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
217.171.129.73, I don't really get what you're saying. What does "Schicht im Schacht" has to do with that Stonkers game? - Face 20:42, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It means that there's a break during the work in shaft—and I'm on "holidays" in Greece: de:Benutzer:Jonathan Groß/Exkursion. —DerHexer (Talk) 14:15, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What does DerHexer mean?

[edit]

I know that hex (German plural hexen, hence the Ravensoft FPS — whose end-of-game boss is Korax, after the Latin for "raven") is the German and Old English for "witch", hence I'm guessing that it means something like "the wizard". ("Der" == the masculine definite article? I know that German has three definite articles, roughly similar to the English "the" pronounced like "fur", "the" pronounced like "free", and "that"; but like most English people I know hardly anything about other languages.) — 217.171.129.74 (talk) 23:26, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That is correct, it means "The wizard" but I do not know if he is referring to the game you mentioned. --Tubesship (talk) 06:24, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Imo TheWarlock is the correct translation, but my name before was User:TheWizard. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 14:11, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Was the name perhaps inspired by this wizard? - Face 17:23, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
IIRC "warlock" is a derogatory term in pagan circles (pun not intended), meaning something like "oathbreaker"; the correct (according to many sources, probably most notably the Harry Potter series) masculine term for "magical person" being "wizard". But we could argue etymology and usage until the end of time, if not beyond. :-) -- 217.171.129.78 (talk) 02:16, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The second one. —DerHexer (Talk) 14:59, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kosovo und Admin Dieter Bachmann

[edit]

Hallo Hexer,

Ich antwortete ihm daraufhin: "I never said it is undisputed. You can write this in the article. Nevertheless there are much more disputed countries that are treated in a country-style way with country box and flag at the top, like for example Nagorno-Karabakh_Republic or like Transnistria with no country recognizing them and no UN seat or like Northern Cyprus also with no UN seat and with only one country recognizing them."

I would be careful, you two. I could collect some rather telling diffs on both of you and the state of your "good faith"... dab (𒁳) 12:02, 1 April 2008 (UTC)", siehe hier: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Kosovo_%28geopolitical_region%29

Tubesship. --Tubesship (talk) 07:04, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Original page I got to this MSG from, but have never even read, before today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Coral_Sea_%28CV-43%29

   USS Coral Sea (CV-43)

page I alledgedly (sp?) edited: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Neutral_point_of_view

   Wikipedia talk:Neutral point of view

I'm on a cable broadband link, which holds your IP address for as long as you keep your cable modem up and running. about twice a week, I lose my cable connection, or at least the router stops talking to the cable modem, and I have to reset portions of the system. When I have to reset the cable modem as part of the reset, or the cable modem resets itself, requiring a reset of my router, the IP address I am assigned comes from the available pool. Sometimes it's the same, sometimes it's different.

I have, on occaission (sp?) edited wikipedia articles. When I do, I always bookmark a link to see if it gets re-changed by someone within a couple of days. If it is, I go look at the discussion page to see why.

In this case, I made NO CHANGES, prior to now, nor did I try to change ANYTHING, I just tried to make a comment in the discussion page of the original page I read (for the FIRST TIME).

This is the first time I have seen "This is your last warning", or any commentary of any kind that indicates I violated any rule. I got it on a page I don't recall ever READING, let alone editing.

I looked to see what edits might have been done by that IP address, but can find none in the first two pages of past edits, let alone one that constitutes "vandalism".

The thing says something to the effect of "you can eliminate the problem by signing up for some sort of account" (paraphrase, not actual quote). Quite a while ago, I signed up for an account, but some idiot put an immediate hold on it, (less than 5 minutes after I created the account) for reasons that he/she never explained, so I reasoned that one is better off doing edits anonymously. Ever since, I have only done them that way.

I have no interest in becoming part of the "Wikipedia Community", and in fact view your "encyclopedia" as nothing better than a bunch of "high-school" to early "college-level" research papers, that have NOT YET been graded for either grammar or accuracy, and only look at it if I want a brief overview that a HS or BS level student would understand, and 100% accuracy is not required. If all I need is a brief idea of something, with 80-90% accuracy being good enough, then Wikipedia is the best source. But I am NOT going to bother trying to "improve" your "encyclopedia" if this is the kind of hassle I get when I try.

Redirects and speedy deletion

[edit]

Well, actually, it is "ignore all rules" deletion. See here. It seems that adminbots have been running to delete "orphaned talk page redirects". I was told here that you imported this practice (of deleting orphaned talk page redirects?) from the German Wikipedia, so I thought you would be interested in joining the discussion. One such discussion started at Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion#CSD G6 clause "cleaning up redirects". I've also proposed that anyone who wants to expand the current criteria for speedy deletion of redirects do so over there. Carcharoth (talk) 10:48, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clayton Bennett

[edit]

Hey, I wanted to get an admin opinion on a situation. An editor made some changes to the article Clayton Bennett. I've been reverting a lot of those changes one edit at a time because I was finding sources to back up what I was saying. In my opinion (which I think is correct), the previous editor user:Coz_11 didn't make statements that were backed up by the sources. However, I'm afraid I'll be accused of violating WP:3RR if I remove the other mistakes in the article. What should I do? Chicken Wing (talk) 16:11, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind for now. I missed this part: "Consecutive reverts by the same user with no intervening edits by other users will be counted as one revert." Hopefully, all of these issues can be resolved without it become an edit war. Thanks, anyway. Chicken Wing (talk) 16:18, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you actually checked any of them? Shall we pull a random sample? It would be preferable to block IPs which are actually open proxies, for the length of time they are actually open proxies. Please read it again. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:56, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey DerHexer. I'm just stopping by to let you know I undid one of your open proxy blocks. It was affected Sambc and the whois shows it's actually a university owned IP. I'm fairly sure it's not an open proxy, but could you have another look? Ryan Postlethwaite 11:35, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's correct. —DerHexer (Talk) 19:48, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You mean, you agree it's not an open proxy? SamBC(talk) 19:58, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not an open proxy. —DerHexer (Talk) 20:36, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers DerHexer - just wanted to double check with you. Hope everythings cool down your end. Ryan Postlethwaite 08:49, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am a bit concerned - why did you block User:129.21.148.17 as an open proxy? They're requesting unblock, and my tests show it to be a Tor client, but like much of the Tor network the policy forbits any traffic from exiting... where did you get the data that it was an open proxy? krimpet 19:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to second this concern, as it affected me (see above section); you blocked an awful lot of IPs as open proxies recently, and I'm wondering why? SamBC(talk) 19:07, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
de:Kategorie:Wikipedia:Gesperrter_Proxy, m:NOP. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 19:49, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I guess that means some (who knows how many) of these open proxy blocks on the German language wikipedia aren't too correct either. Do I take your comment to mean that you went through the list of IPs blocked as open proxies on de:wiki and blocked them as such here as well? SamBC(talk) 19:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've just blocked some of them here and stopped it some days ago. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 20:37, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please tell us how you confirmed these 2,410 IPs were open proxies, and why multiple false positives appear to be popping up only a week afterwards? :/ krimpet 22:38, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, real wise move blocking bbcache155-114.singnet.com.sg which is obviously an caching proxy server for an ISP. I have to ask, did you do any testing whatsoever of this IP address yourself or did you blindly port this block over from de.wp? nmap turned up nothing for me and I can't proxy through it myself via ports 80, 3128 or 8080. And looking over the other false positives raised on your talk page, I too have to question your credibility. --  Netsnipe  ►  18:12, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Project

[edit]

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 06:11, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm not really active on en:wp., very busy in RL, and my English is not so well so that it would be difficult for new users to understand me. ;) Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 23:49, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there DerHexer,

That is pretty mean Hexerlein. There was a very interesting guy who looked closer into Spenglers manipulative use of Eu reports that completely contradicted, what he claimed they said. Why didn't you give the people--like him--that studied case a change to change the article themselves instead of deleting it? Inquiring minds would like to know?

I am mad!!!! I thought, I only needed to go back to Spengler's talk page to find a link to person and research. There is no doubt a larger quite interesting propaganda pattern. You sure did not do a good job here.

I think we have issues with user 209.247.23.71, and need to speak with him about adding needless information in upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races for 2008. He added unneccessary info on who already qualified for the race via the Top 35 Owners Points rule, and I have deleted it as "fancruft". In addition I am asking for semi-protection on all remaining race pages from the 2008 Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 through the 2008 Ford 400 so that only registered users (like myself) can edit these stori8es. When the races are completed, I ask that the semi-protection be removed. Thanks in advance. NoseNuggets (talk) 5:15 PM US EDT Jul 31 2008

Admin bots

[edit]

Hello, I have recently had an encounter with an unapproved admin bot, and despite an extremely clear dictate by policy that these bots should be blocked, have been discouraged from doing so. Depending how this situation resolves, I will likely file an arbitration request to hopefully resolve this issue once and for all. You commented on Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Adminbots, stating that you ran an admin bot. To help get an idea of how widespread admin bots are, as well as get a uniform decision, I would like to ask: Do you still operate this bot, and does it operate when you are not present? Please reply on my talk page, thanks, Prodego talk 00:40, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"You commented on Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Adminbots, stating that you ran an admin bot." That's not true, I've never written that. I'm not running an admin bot and never run one (when I was not present). I'm not even sure how you define "admin bot"—scripts to make our lives easier (which are manually started by users) should be allowed unless JavaScript is allowed here, no matter what ArbCom, Jimbo or "God" says. Read the Allan Williams article then read the Brian Epstein- they both contradict since one quote says "fucking barge pole" and the other says "barge pole". In the heat of an argument I personally see the expletive filled remark being accurate.

Is there any chance at all you could make the block on his IP a soft one so he can at least edit, unless there's a way technically to reconfigure his server so it won't act like an open proxy? He seems to be a solid contributor. Blueboy96 11:49, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy note; after some digging, it's become apparent that the open proxy block probably doesn't belong on Graham's underlying IP address, 198.54.202.30 (talk · tag · contribs · count · WHOIS · ip details · trace · RBLslogs · block log · arb · rfc · lta · spi · checkuser · socks ); I've unblocked that IP address: User talk:198.54.202.30#Unblocked.

Harrisonburg Crossing

[edit]

Could you please restore Harrisonburg Crossing? The article was speedily deleted as A7 more than a year ago. I found some good references in reliable sources at "Harrisonburg+Crossing"&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&btnG=Search+Archives this Google News archive search, so I think notability can be demonstrated. -- Eastmain (talk) 00:13, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Imo it would be easier to write a new article. But if you be adamant that I shall undelete it, I'll do so. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 00:15, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Murex

Dexer, can you please put on this page what Murex is? I see you deleted the page. I don't care if it is deleted - I just want to know what it is, as about it as possible - I need to know this for a job interview. German

[edit]

Hi. Are you really German? DO you, live in Germany? I'm thinking of travelling there to visit Berlin and war museums. Is it really true the Germans have a "sense of law and order"? My teacher says when he went there, there was no litter on the streets (unlike here in the UK). Anyway I thought I might ask for some advice on really good locations to visit. Hope to hear from you soon. Regards. LOTRrules Talk Contribs 01:36, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm German and I live in Germany, to be exact, Berlin. Well, here's sometimes litter on the streets, but not quite often. And though Germany is mostly seen as more bureaucratic than other countries, the English Wikipedia is much more bureaucratic than the German one. ;) Referring to sights I'd recommend you to have a look at de:Liste der Sehenswürdigkeiten in Berlin and Berlin#Kultur_und_Sehenswürdigkeiten. You should at least visit the street Unter den Linden while going by bus number 100 and 200. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:52, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've reverted your reverts and that of J.delanoy because unknowingly you were both reverting to a vandalised version. There's a bit of a problem going on there at the moment - I've got it on my watchlist. (I don't use tools, so sometimes I can see a broader picture. That's my opinion, anyway. Tools are quick, but I often find the odd bits they don't.) Peridon (talk) 18:30, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

HUT blocked

[edit]

Hi, couldn't find the policies with a fast googling about wahat constitutes a public proxy according to wikipedia.

However all Helsinki University of Technology computers that seem to go through 130.233.249.17 (which seems to be many, if not all) seem to be blocked from editing by you. I personally think that this is a bit exaggerated action taken... because access to these computers requires having study rights to the university, therefore one might argue the proxy is not public at all - and if there is abuse then i guess there is a abuse@tkk.fi or something like that which can take action.

Gillis (talk) 16:19, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I've never blocked that IP address. The HUT's IP range seems to be 130.233.0.0/16: 130.233.249.70, 130.233.249.50, 130.233.249.48, 130.233.249.40, 130.233.249.39, 130.233.249.22, 130.233.249.114 and 130.233.249.105 made edits here, but I've blocked none of them. Kind regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 00:11, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, sorry, must've given you the wrong ip or something. However I just tried editing from 130.233.243.229, which does turn up as blocked by you. [11] and [12] which is a screenshot taken through an ssh tunnel to a workstation. Gillis (talk) 23:49, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That IP is blocked on de:wp and en:wb, too. I've changed the block on de:wp and en:wp so that accounts can be created by that IP and are not automatically blocked (please contact a sysop on en:wb) because it's still possible that this IP could be used by many people at the same time which is not allowed on wikipedia. Regards —DerHexer (Talk) 00:14, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, could you please point me to the page that says so? the policy referred to in the block just forbids open proxies. However, it even recommends the use of closed proxies for people wishing to remain anonymous (such as people in China). A simultaneous use block sounds odd to me with all the NATting around, and the fact that many computers can trivially be used simultaneously through thin clients. Blocking Universities is in general not a good move if knowledgable input is wanted. Gillis (talk) 01:10, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
DerHexer this is a huge misapplication of the open proxies policy. This is not an open proxy, and I doubt it has ever been, so I have unblocked it. I'm also working through the thousands of other IPs you blocked as open proxies, which were not open proxies when you blocked them indefinitely. I'd ask that you reconsider blocking IPs either indefinitely or as open proxies, especially through any automated method. List them at WP:OP or on my talk page if you want any IPs checking. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:06, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't said here that it's an open proxy because it's no proxy and has never been one. But it's still an IP address which many people can use [and have abused!] at the same time which would make checkuser actions impossible if there'd be a legal case. Regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 23:26, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Open proxy. Almost every IP address on the planet is used by multiple people. If we blocked them all there'd be no edits. The edits from this university are overwhelmingly constructive. -- zzuuzz (talk) 00:07, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"I haven't said here", but, well, that's nitpicking by me. -.- Although it would be better in my opinion, if edits could be associated with static IPs or accounts due to the forgoing reasons. Kind regards and good night :), —DerHexer (Talk) 00:13, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The script lately is posting warnings like in this instance with not even a successful rollback that ends up incrementing warnings uselessly. Could it be bettered perchance? -- Mentifisto 03:30, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to fix it but I can't test it at university. Is it working? Kind regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 13:14, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually right now it's not working at all... -- Mentifisto 11:34, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DerHexer!

I ask if you kindly grant me rollback rights. As stated on the page "any administrator can grant rollback to a user using his or her own judgement." I know when to use the rollback and when not. Reverting vandalism using the VF and Twinkle is simply enoying, Huggle, my prefered tool, is only avaible for rollbackers.

For my personal background: I am a so-called "editor" on the German Wikipedia (with rollback rights included) and use it there to fight vandalism. As an addition to that I am an admin on Commons using that tool there too.

Fräulein Wunder

[edit]

@ChrisHamburg a) Vier b) tu das. --ST 18:01, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bild in der Infobox + Vier Bilder der einzelnen Mitglieder? --ChrisHamburg (talk) 22:29, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Und was meint der direkt Angesprochene? --ST 23:39, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lieber Hexer, it is late and I'm getting nowhere in the guidelines trying to find out how to request a block on an IP. But I've seen that you've already blocked that IP before, so I suppose you know how to do it. I've checked the IP's last few edits, and they're all just vandalism. Dear Hexer, You wrote "Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to the page Theo Epstein has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. But what I deleted was the phrase "Epstein remains the only general manager to suit up during a game 7 world series playoff game and throw a no hitter as well as hit 2 grand slams." from the Theo Epstein Wikipedia article. Theo have never played a game of baseball at any notable level, much less a world series playoff, and much much less a no-hitter and two grand slams. Regarding a user Top on ice

[edit]

Recently I started making contribution on the page of Kim Yu-Na, mostly making grammatical corrections. I also added contents a few external links to her fan forums and her Twitter page.

There is a user called Top On Ice, and he or she has been keeping removing those links without any reasonable explanations. The person has removed multiple contributions for no persuasive reason including the removal of an undisputed fact such as that Michelle Kwan was the nine-time U.S. champion. I have been reverting this person's removals. This person just had a warning mail sent to me for vandalism. This person is in fact censoring contributions on Kim Yu-Na's page, and I believe this person's conduct constitutes vandalism, and thus he or she should be considered to be blocked. This person mentioned me at the end of this link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:147.4.36.7), but I do not know its purpose. Please check out my talk. - Chunwook —Preceding undated comment added 00:30, 7 July 2009 (UTC).[reply]
