Some tips
[edit]Hello, and thanks for your contributions to Missoula, Montana! However, based on your edits, I've got some tips for you:
- Please refrain from over-bolding words. Generally, the only words that should be bolded are the article's title in the lead section of the article (aka the first paragraph), along with several other unique cases, such as table headers and definition lists. See this page for more information on this.
- Please try to write from a neutral point of view, and try not to sound promotional. The aim of Wikipedia is to provide non-biased and educational content for our readers, and that includes the allowance of many different views, all conveyed through neutral language.
- Finally, do avoid overlinking words. I noticed that you added links to articles such as Montana and Missoula many times throughout the article, sometimes in sentences right next to each other. The limit is generally known to be that a subject should only be linked to once in every section, and that's pushing it. In addition, years are rarely linked to. Also, it is not necessary to even link to Missoula, as that leads right back to the article.
I hope that you'll find these tips to be of help, and I hope you continue to contribute to Wikipedia. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:52, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
National Register of Historic Places and photographs
[edit]Hi, I'd noticed you'd made an article on the Florence Hotel. Thanks for your contribution! I'd like to let you know that we have a project for properties like the Florence that are on the National Register of Historic Places. You can visit WP:NRHP for more information. We're trying to create articles for as many of the 80,000 places in the US that are on the NRHP as possible, and we're about a third done. Montana's difficult because much of the documentation and sourcing for these isn't easily available. If you have access to some printed resources you're welcome to expand and source existing articles, or to create new, referenced articles. Please remember that appropriate referencing is essential.
I noticed that you uploaded an image of the building from a postcard. A note on images: For the US, anything before 1923 is in the public domain. Anything from before 1964 and not renewed is in the public domain. It's always hard to tell with postcards, so the usual wisdom is not to upload postcards unless they're from before 1923. Also, it's a very small image that looks like it came from a webpage. If it came from somewhere else on the Internet, it's not appropriate to upload to a free-content encyclopedia, as it almost certainly won't be under a compatible copyright license. In any case, you can't claim it as "own work", so you should correct the attribution where you uploaded it. You have a couple of other images like that on Commons - if you have any questions I can help you out, but in general, if you didn't take the picture yourself, there are very few ways to upload them.
Please let me know if I can help out. Acroterion (talk) 03:35, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
The article Hellgate Rollergirls has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Unclear that this group has any notability. The only source in the article is its own website.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Cmprince (talk) 20:11, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Nomination of Hellgate Rollergirls for deletion
[edit]A discussion has begun about whether the article Hellgate Rollergirls, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hellgate Rollergirls until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.
You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Cmprince (talk) 23:16, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there, I just wanted to let you know that there is no animosity towards this article, but it does not seem to meet the notability criteria for inclusion here. I could not find anything after a cursory search, but if you have reliable third party sources that establishes the notability of this team, this would greatly improve the article give it a stronger case for inclusion. Thanks for your work so far on other Missoula related articles! Cmprince (talk) 23:35, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
- DenverLady, you need to comment on the AfD discussion if you think it should be kept!, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hellgate Rollergirls--Milowent • talkblp-r 15:12, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
- Ah! saved from the dustbin! Come see me anytime if you have questions about whether something would be suitable for an article. Cheers.--Milowent • talkblp-r 05:12, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

More advice
[edit]Welcome. The learning curve at the Wiki projects can be very steep, so here's some more advice and another offer to help. We appreciate new editors, particularly those interested in NRHP sites, as there are more than 40,000 of them that need articles. Florence Hotel reduced that total by one -- keep it up.
First, when you create a new article on an NRHP site with a photo (such as Florence Hotel, please add the photo both to the site and to the List of NRHP sites for that area, in this case National Register of Historic Places listings in Missoula County, Montana. We work very hard to get all of the sites in the list illustrated.
Second, the comment above about postcards was generally correct. In fact, I nominated your image of the Florence for deletion on Commons. After discussion, another editor found an image of the reverse of the postcard which proved that it did not have a copyright notice and we kept it. Since you did not join that discussion, I assume you are not watching your Commons talk page where you have been notified of the discussions. Although it's a nuisance, it's a good idea to keep an eye there once a week (DR discussions must last at least a week) to catch such things.
I should add that I have nominated several of your images for deletion as they appear to be copyright violations. They will probably be deleted unless you join their discussions.
If I can help you in any way please leave a note on either of my talk pages:
