[edit]Hello, Dennis Nealon. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. ElKevbo (talk) 12:56, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, shocker, you've been warned about COI editing before; who would have guessed? You can read our policies (which you are obviously in violation of) here. --JBL (talk) 14:58, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion
[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. ElKevbo (talk) 20:44, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
COI concerns
[edit]Hi Dennis Nealon, as you can see above editors are concerned that you have a conflict of interest with an article you have been editing, Wentworth Institute of Technology. Please answer the following questions to help us determine if you have a conflict of interest. We don't need any details when you answer the questions below: just a simple yes or no will suffice:
- Do you work for Wentworth Institute of Technology in any capacity? Yes
- Have you been paid by anyone to edit Wentworth Institute of Technology, either directly by the institution or by a second party? No
Please do not edit the article until you have answered these questions. If you have any questions, please post on the help desk. Z1720 (talk) 21:05, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I work for Wentworth. No I am not now nor have I ever been paid by anyone to edit any Wikipedia page. I am not attempting to aggrandize or promote Wentworth. I was attempting to correct the brief summary and to add information on the current President of the institution. I was not trying to get around your editorial guidelines but rather was trying to ensure my simple edits were there. I request an unblock. Dennis Nealon (talk) 03:22, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Dennis Nealon: Thank you for disclosing that you work for Wentworth. Please read WP:COI carefully and ask any questions you have below. Please also consider if you are a paid editor; although you are not paid to edit Wentworth, you may fall into this category if you work to market or promote the school.
- I am not an administrator, and I am not the user that blocked you. The process to appeal a block is outlined at WP:UNBLOCK and WP:GAB. Please post below if you have any questions. Z1720 (talk) 03:33, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
