Thanks for your response. You wrote: "Did you specify an email address in your preferences? If you haven't, and answer yes, try again. If you have, or answer no, either switch off the filter or give up (respectively)." I'm confused by the wording. Could you restate it a different way? Also, I'm not absolutely certain now whether I gave an email address in my preferences. If I did not, can I presume that my password was not changed, and that I can log back in if I can recall what it was? Again, thanks. Rohirok (talk) 17:04, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

No need to tell people to sign their posts
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I don't think that telling people to sign their posts at WP:HD is a good idea. Most people asking questions there are newbies, and are trying to wrap their heads around how things work around here to begin with, such as even the basic question of why everyone is allowed to edit articles. When they ask a question on the Help Desk, they are looking for a specific answer to their question—asking them to sign their posts won't help them with their quest for an answer at all, and will most likely only aggravate them. I am speaking partially from experience here, from my own and from others (on Wikipedia in the past and on other sites). I'm not saying that you shouldn't do it, but I'd just like to say my piece. Cheers! Gary King (talk) 09:58, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Then you'd be reiterating what is already stated on the 'edit' page for talk pages, which says "This is a talk page. Please respect the talk page guidelines, and remember to sign your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~)". If the user chooses to ignore this suggestion, then wouldn't suggesting it simply aggravate them further? If you can point me to several people who have thanked you for suggesting to sign their posts, then I will rethink this, but for now, this is what I think. I'm usually all for boilerplate responses, and the {{HD}} is decent for this, but when a person asks a question and a response is not related at all, then it seems a bit disorienting to most people, including me as a casual reader of the Help Desk. Well done on spotting and correcting all those typos. But, and I say this politely and gently, it's best not to correct other people's comments on talk pages. I think the talk page guidelines mention this. Kind Regards Dan Beale-Cocks 20:12, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Wikipedia toolbar.PNG)
Thanks for uploading Image:Wikipedia toolbar.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:14, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Wrestler naming convention
Thank you for your response. I'm still sorta sitting on the fence on this one. I brought it up on WP:PW, but thats like opening a can of worms. WP:UCN appears to lean towards naming the articles after the wrestler's stage name. I'm still unsure. --Endless Dan 18:41, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

No content in Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Sylvan wu
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Sylvan wu, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Sylvan wu has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Sylvan wu, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. If you had bothered to read the talk page for this article, you would have seen that I originally tagged this article for speedy, bt removed it to give another editor time to fix the article and prove notability. That agreement took place bare;y 24 hours before your AfD. Furthermore, a simple "Not notable" as an explanation for nomination is far too vague and simplistic. You need to at least give some clue as to why you think he's not notable, or do a simple Google search to see if the guy shows up. You've been around here long enough to know better. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 01:11, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Saw your votes on WP:DELREV regarding Aset Ka. If I understand correctly, you changed your mind from overturn to endorse to neutral. If this is the case, however, it seems you forgot to strike out both mentions of "endorse" deletion, so if I were you I would want to clarify that.

WP:HAU has a new format
Due to popular demand, HAU has a new look. Since the changes are so dramatic, I may have made some mistakes when translating the data. Please take a look at WP:HAU/EU and make sure your checkmarks are in the right place and feel free to add or remove some. There is a new feature, SoxBot V, a recently approved bot, automatically updates your online/offline status based on the length of time since your last edit. To allow SoxBot V to do this, you'll need to copy [[Category:Wikipedians who use StatusBot]] to your userpage. Obviously you are not required to add this to your userpage, however, without this, your status will always be "offline" at HAU. Thanks. Useight (talk) 17:16, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Spotlight
Hello, I just received your email. If you want, I can send you the spotlight bot code and give you instructions on how to run it.
The bot is written in PHP, so you will also need to set up the PHP interpreter to get it to work. I can give you instructions on how to get that working too.
To reply to this, please send me another e-mail.
BTW, I am using this new account instead of my regular old account because I don't want to have a huge gap of edits from October 2007 to May 2008.
Thanks, GMoney2 (talk) 04:49, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Follow the following instructions to download PHP
- Go to http://www.php.net/downloads.php
- Find "PHP 5.2.6 installer" and click on that
- Then click on one of the links to the mirrors, and download.
- Once downloaded, run the installer, but watch for the following things:
- When it says where to install, use C:\php instead of C:\program files\php
- This is not that important, but it is just more efficient. If you accidentally forget to change the install path, it is OK.
- Once you have it installed, do:
- Start > run > "cmd"
- Type : cd c:\php
- Type : php -r "echo time();"
- If it shows a timestamp, them you have successfully installed the interpreter.
- Then, contact me again. If it works, I will tell you specific configuration settings. If it doesn't then I will help you to diagnose the problem.
- Thanks, GMoney2 (talk) 03:35, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I will get the specific configuration once I get to the file. The thing is, that I wrote the bot on Linux, and now I am temporarily on Vista. So, to access the file I have to run a Linux-based software to read my older linux partition. Thus, I will burn a version of Knoppix on a CD and then I will convert the file to Vista-accessible format. Then I can send you the file and help with specific configuration.
- Long story short, I need another day to get the configuration and the Bot file.
- Thanks, GMoney2 (talk) 03:08, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Edits to article on SMU
Dear Sir/Madam:
I have made a purely objective edit to the article on SMU and its association with George W.
Bush. While it contains an opinion, it is based on research.
I notice that directly above my edit, there appears this statement: "Once they are properly
informed, they'll support this wholeheartedly." Isn't this just an opinion? Where is his
research?
It appears that this edit was motivated by a desire to suppress accurate information that is not
in agreement with the editors' politics. Isn't this exactly what happens in
China and its army of internet police?
I welcome your response.

Just curious about your close on this one. Ignore my !del vote for the moment since that's not why I'm commenting on it. I ask because you stated schools are generally notable, whereas primary schools are generally not notable and often end up merged. Also per WP:NAC it says, "Unanimous or nearly unanimous keep after a full 5-day listing period", where thie one wasn't really -- and it was nominated by an admin. Thoughts on that? TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 00:27, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note. I think there was a pretty clear split and re-listing it would be a better move. If you look at AfDs you'll see that almost without exception elementary and middle schools are merged, whereas secondary (high schools in the US) are kept. I'm not an admin so I can't do that, however. It;s your call if you want to contact an admin to do that, such as the one who nominated it, I don't care enough to take it to DRV, was just a question that occurred to me. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 00:38, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think that was a good call. Let it get another set of eyes for a few days. Keep an eye on it to see how it closes in the end. Have a good day/night, whatever it is wherever you are TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 00:56, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Anywaz , I want a complete logic from your side .Please feel free and let me know your thoughts . Thanks & regards Raj —Preceding unsigned comment added by Raj4encoders (talk • contribs) 10:25, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Speedy tagging of Kapurthala
Not sure whether you entirely meant to but you tagged Kapurthala for A7 deletion - it is a article about a geographical location not a company! nancy (talk) 12:29, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello! Thanks for correcting the article Abitur after twelve years. I want to ask whether the title of the article is okay. Maybe it would be better when it calls Abitur in twelve years? — Despairing, 13:05, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
