Where on wikipedia should this question be asked?
[edit]In which sports does All-Ireland compete as a team?
This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Excuse me for using the wrong template, but the corresponding template on svwp refers to all help. I posted this on Talk:Sport in Ireland in January this year but no one seems to have seen the post.
I wonder, in which sports does the island of Ireland play as a national team (All-Ireland)? I get confused by the fact that the Republic of Ireland is called "Ireland" in some sports and in other sports the Isle of Ireland is called "Ireland", so for one who is not familiar with this, it is not easy to understand.
I am already aware of field hockey, rugby union, cricket and basketball. Basketball creates even more confusion for me, because the flag of the Republic of Ireland is used but the players come from all over the island. So I guess there are more All-Ireland national teams that use the Republic of Ireland flag?
I have introduced in Swedish wikipeida, that if we use the national field hockey team template, {{hlhf|IRE}} it will automatically be the right flag, just like in English wikipedia ( Ireland) and I intend to do so in more of our templates. So I need help knowing which sports have all-Ireland teams. Thanks. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 17:38, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
- Helped. Hejsan, tjenare, DenSportgladeSkåningen. To answer the question you pose in the heading, I think the best place to ask would be at the Irish Wikipedians' notice board. If you have any questions, you are always welcome to ask me on my talk page. Alternatively, you can ask your question at the Teahouse, the help desk, or join Wikipedia's Live Help IRC channel to get real-time assistance. Happy editing, Sam Sailor 12:49, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
[edit]Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

- "soccer ball player" is not grammatically correct. What you do counts as vandalism, if you continue with it there is a great risk that you will be blocked. I will go to the administrators if you continue. "Now you know " DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 08:35, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

UEFA minutes goals
[edit]PDF report, like this for example, are more accurate. Do not follow the classic link report for these matches.--Island92 (talk) 12:24, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Island92: The PDF report is not linked in the article, so it is wrong to follow it then. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 13:51, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Not following already linked sources is as if the article were without a source. If you want to change the times, you must change the links as well. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 13:59, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- These minutes goals have only changed for the latests two days, with a difference of one minute. I don't know why. We must wait until UEFA fix all of them, following the PDF document.--Island92 (talk) 14:01, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Island92: Do not forget to change the links if you change the times. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 14:02, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- I don't change any link because we normally are used to adding those kind of links, as per other UEFA tournaments. We must wait. Yesterday I had a talk with @S.A. Julio: about this particular which is happening (my talk).--Island92 (talk) 14:07, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Island92: You can not deny that it looks strange if the article writes 43' while the link source writes 44'. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 14:09, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Because UEFA must fix it.--Island92 (talk) 14:11, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Island92: I understand that, but we can not write another minute than what the linked source says. I saw that you changed the times after all but you forgot to change the sources as well. Now the minutes are not sourced. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 14:15, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Into the report we don't put a PDF source document, but the classic UEFA links that in this case must be fixed as soon as possible by UEFA, because they are shown wrong minutes.--Island92 (talk) 14:18, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Island92: Well, then you are the one who has to wait with the edits. There are two options; link the PDF source or change the minutes according to the source already specified. We can not list anything other than what the stated source writes, even if Uefa has done wrong. Two mistakes do not make one right. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 14:25, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- And if UEFA corrects them? I can wait, otherwise you can start a new talk into Wiki Project Football here on Wikipedia.--Island92 (talk) 14:29, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Island92: Then we need to change, but not before. It's pretty simple. Btw, what should we do if Uefa does not correct anything at all? DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 14:38, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- I don't think so. It might be a UEFA system error into its website at the moment and they're trying to fix it. Trust me, but I want to wait, following the PDF source that goes into UEFA Media Information archives.--Island92 (talk) 14:45, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Island92: Okay, I'm waiting this time - but you're doing it the wrong way. The source goes before a personal opinion at all times. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 14:56, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- I know I'm doing wrong, don't worry. If they don't re-fix these minutes goals as per those ones shown into the PDF reports, I'll put your pages version.--Island92 (talk) 14:57, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

This evening I watched Switzerland vs. Germany. Gündoğan clearly scored at 13:06 (minute 1:35 of this video). That's why I think there is still present an important system error into their website. The PDF document says correctly 14', but the link shows 15'. Every single minute is ahead of 60 seconds from the PDF reports. Incredible. Something is not working properly. I can add the PDF report. The result is this:
6 September 2020 Nations League | Switzerland | 1–1 | Germany | Basel, Switzerland |
20:45 |
|
Report |
|
Stadium: St. Jakob-Park Attendance: 0[note 1] Referee: Michael Oliver (England) |
But according to the correct concistency for these pages we must only put the classic link, which must be fixed.--Island92 (talk) 21:21, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

changing my edits?
[edit]Putting scores backwards causes confusion with the reader. I have already discussed this with another editor. And per wikipedia rules you are supposed to come to a consensus when a dispute arises. Not just undo an editor's work. thank you Mpdaly86900711 (talk) 22:14, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- You're the one putting them backwards and that will confuse the readers. 3-1 indicates a win when the text says "loss" DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 22:16, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- correct they lost 3-1 that is not confusing. and you are not supposed to make changes when there is a disupte I already stated this Mpdaly86900711 (talk) 22:18, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- Wrong, they lost 1-3, not 3-1. 3-1 is read as a win. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 22:20, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- They lost 3-1 how hard is it to understand that. if They lost the game 3-1 you write "they lost 3-1". If they won you write "they won the game 3-1" Mpdaly86900711 (talk) 22:21, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- They lost 1-3 how hard is that to understand? If they lost the game 1-3, you write "they lost 1-3". If they won you write "they won the game 3-1". The team's results are written in favor. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 22:23, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- Well obviously we need to resolve the dispute if we can't come to a conclusion. A third party will resolve it Mpdaly86900711 (talk) 22:25, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- I brought up the issue with an administrator since we can't agree Mpdaly86900711 (talk) 22:28, 4 February 2024 (UTC)

- (EC) I'm in agreement with DenSportgladeSkåningen. If a page is about a team, the score should show that team's score first. They won 3-1, or they lost 1-3. If it's an article about a game, then the winning team (and the higher score) should be presented first. --Onorem (talk) 22:30, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
Edit summaries are courteous to other editors figuring out what you are doing
[edit]Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that one or more recent edit(s) you made did not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief.
The edit summary field looks like this:

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account, you can give yourself a reminder by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary), and then click the "Save" button.
