Removing Category:Acclaim Entertainment games
[edit]I noticed you took Category:Acclaim Entertainment games off a number of games that seem, at least to me, to have been properly included in that category. Could you explain why you did that? The cover art for them seemed to pretty clearly indicate that the category was appropriate but wanted to ask before just reverting. Thanks! DocFreeman24 (talk) 23:37, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, they ARE games by that company, however it was already in a subcategory of the same category (Category:NBA Jam, Category:All-Star Baseball video games, and/or Category:NFL Quarterback Club video games depending on which games you are referring to), and pages should most of the time only be in the most specific category and not a parent category of a category it's already in as well. I hope I explained it well! DemonStalker (talk) 03:40, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining your edits and answering my question! PS. Just a quick note on Wiki-etiquette, it's usually preferred to keep messages in a unified conversation on the talk page where they started. Also, it's best not to edit someone's else's user page (not to be confused with their talk page, which is 100% appropriate to post messages on). A user page is like someone's profile page, only they should be the ones editing it generally. The talk page is for, well, talking, so that's A-ok to edit as long as it's to add a message or comment! Hope that's helpful and thanks again! DocFreeman24 (talk) 05:18, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- You're welcome! Also thanks for letting me know. I honestly didn't realise I posted that on your user page. 😅 DemonStalker (talk) 12:10, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

I believe many of these recats are wrong. Eg the above Acclaim Entertainment games is the diffusing category (to help split games by publisher/developer), but categories like NBA Jam are non-diffusing subcats of that (we can't classify all games, much less all Acclaim games into nice boxes like that). See WP:DUPCAT. That is, there's no reason that NBA Jam (1993 video game) cannot be both an Acclaim game and an NBA Jam game, since the latter is non-diffusing. Same with the recent ones you are doing with the various Mario games. --Masem (t) 15:32, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- For the acclaim games, maybe I should put them back in the Acclaim categories. But their's supposed to none or very few pages (should be mostly subcategories) in the Category:Mario video games but there was quite a bit of pages there which I was trying to fix. I'll see if I can fix the Acclaim games and I'll double-check the Mario games. DemonStalker (talk) 15:43, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
