the source is Webster's New International Dictionary, second ed., (Springfield, MA: G&C Merriam, 1934). It's commonly referred to as Webster's Second, and called by lexicographers W2. I have a copy of the first, or 1934, printing sitting on my desk. Various reprintings occurred between 1934 and the publication of Webster's Third in 1961. Dord was removed for the 1940 printing of W2).
