Messenger Bees were the first cybernetic organism to be used in human conflict, invented during the Weather War of 2011.

History

During the climatic self-cannibalization of 2011, countries began to invade each other to get to safer weather conditions. A massive global migration began to take place, the entire world's population seeking sanctuary from the seasons. As billions of people began to circle the world in fleeing from the weather, conflicts over territory and rights began to take place. Communications had broken down entirely since no one was ever in the same place for more than a month at a time, and vine-swinging had not yet been perfected, there were barely any ways to distribute information and those ways that were preserved were corrupt and used for exploitation of the poor. Inner revolutions began to occur, Self-Movers began to emerge as a movement of those wishing to migrate free of government regulation, free of passport control, which they deemed to be outdated in the face of New Weather. In order to disseminate information about clear routes of travel and areas free of military and police, Rudy Dunphy, one of the first self-proclaimed Self-Movers, invented Messenger Bees, a cyborg combination of Meliponini stingless bees and a simple coded message that can be delivered in pollen to a Carp Phone.

Use In Combat

Messenger bees were discovered as the best possible way of transferring information, as they can navigate rough weather better than any other organism tested by the Self-Mover movement. The Meliponini bees of Australia, though rarely exposed to cold weather in their evolution, are still remarkable at controlling their flight through sleet, snow and ice. Described by many as a miracle of nature, Messenger Bees have never been known to be shot down, susceptible to any gas attacks, or ever to have missed their targets. In the words of Govermentia, the pharmaceutical government body, they were "the rebels' lucky break, an unstoppable enemy in the face of mere benign control".

Truth

Although challenged by many, it is thought that Messenger Bees could only transport truthful messages. Called "a nice thought" by some scholars, others claim that "even if you gave it a lie, when it arrived at its target, you'd get the truth."
