IBM System z changes reverted
[edit]David - I have reverted your recent changes to IBM System z as they appear to include IBM ad copy, and make the article sound like an IBM advertisement. Wikipedia is not for advertising (WP:NOTADVERTISING, WP:ARTSPAM).
Also, when I came here to leave this note, I noticed that you work for IBM. While it's not forbidden to edit articles about your employer, the conflict of interest makes this a bit of a tricky area. See WP:COI for some guidelines.
Finally, keeping a neutral point of view in articles is a fundamental principle of Wikipedia (WP:NPOV).
I don't mean to beat you up for your contribution, and I know much of the mainframe stuff is only lightly edited (and often skirts the content guidelines because of that), but IMO, the changes to IBM System z were just too far in the direction of turning the article into an IBM advertisement. - Thanks for the feedback - question
- I appreciate your honest feedback. I definitely read the guidelines before I started contributing. And I'm aware of the balance I'm having to maintain. I'm glad you're keeping me honest. Thanks.
- Looking at your post on the System z talk page, I definitely understand the issue with those chunks of content. (And I'm sure there were others.) I didn't intentionally include any IBM marketing copy. However, some of the folks who provided me with input and feedback may have. I'll be more careful in the future (obviously).
- I would like to try to edit the page again with your feedback in mind. Do you have any problem with that? Davidlharlan (talk) 03:59, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
- Not at all. As I said, these pages are too thinly edited anyway. If you'd like, make the changes in your sandbox, and I'd be happy to take a look at them before they get posted to the article. Rwessel (talk) 05:49, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
- Rwessel, can you take a look at my proposed edit of the System z page - on my sandbox - if you have a moment?
- David - sorry I missed your note here. I've gone ahead and made a few edits to your sandbox article. Most were minor, but a bit of the hyperbole was removed. I did add some details about the z196 and EC12. Let me know what you think. But even though it's still a bit sales-y, I think it's a fair improvement of the current article, so feel free to move it back. Rwessel (talk) 21:30, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
