Re: Trying to write article
[edit]That error occurs when there is a database failure or when an upgrade is taking place. Usually the lockouts only last for about five minutes, and everything's back online now.
I'm afraid there is no way of retrieving your lost text which you tried to submit, but it's great that you have identified the need for the article. FTSE 250-listed companies are definitely notable enough for inclusion — see the guidelines for companies at WP:ORG — and so the page won't be speedily deleted once it's submitted.. You should be able to upload it without any problems. If you're not sure about the formatting or style, you could always upload it to a user page at User:David de Leyser/Sandbox and I could have a quick look at it before you submit it. If there's anything else I can help you with, don't hesitate to leave me another note. Good luck! haz (talk) 16:15, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply Haz. I like the idea of the viewable sandbox by you for comment or help, which I would like to take you up on if you don't mind! David de Leyser (talk) 14:40, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Awesome. Whenever you want me to take a look, either leave a message here (I've got it on the watchlist) or my talk page, and I'll have a read through and see if anything could be improved. Looking forward to seeing the article! haz (talk) 17:47, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Haz, I've drafted an article, which I haven't saved yet, because I am having a little trouble with the infobox. Are you able to view what I have so far drafted in my user:sandbox before it's been saved? Would appreciate feedback/advice. David de Leyser (talk) 13:07, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Replying instead of haz. No, other users are not able to see the changes before you have saved the page. EliAS 13:14, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your quick response. I've saved the article on my sandbox...hope you can see/advice on my problem? David de Leyser (talk) 13:22, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Infobox fixed. You can see the changes i made here. Still the image doesn't seem to work. Are you sure it's uploaded exactly on that name? EliAS 13:35, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I have just uploaded a file using the 'special upload' page under the file name pvcrystalox_logo_RGB.jpg. Do you always have to upload images to wikipedia or can you upload them directly from our server? Thanks for help David de Leyser (talk) 13:52, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- External images aren't supported; they have to be uploaded to Wikipedia, or (in the case of free use images) Wikimedia Commons. I'm making a few changes to the sandbox; stand by! haz (talk) 13:58, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for making the changes to the sandbox. The info for the 'headquarters' appears to be missing. Is that fixable? I hope to be adding a few more images to the bottom of the site soon. Once I am happy with the 'sandbox' what do I do to uplaod it to go live on the main wikipedia site? Tks for help again David de Leyser (talk) 14:27, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've made the changes, and the article looks pretty good. I've removed some snippets of text which made the article sound like an advertisement or were copied from copyrighted web sources. The infobox has been fixed, and now displays the location info correctly. Once you've confirmed that you're happy with the article as it looks, I'll move the page and its history into the encyclopaedia mainspace for you — new users have a restriction on pagemoves. haz (talk) 15:11, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Haz, you're a genius! It looks brilliant, and I am happy for you to move it into the encyclopaedia mainspace right away. As I mentioned earlier at some point I'll insert some images, so will be in touch with you then! David de Leyser (talk) 15:24, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Awesome. The article is now located at PV Crystalox Solar. I'm in the process of processing the logo you uploaded, to speed up the page's download time. By the way, it was me who posted the speedy tag at the sandbox page – I'm not suggesting that the article should be deleted, just that the empty sandbox page should go, since presumably you don't need the redirect page. (I'm not an administrator either, by the way, but thanks for the vote of confidence!) haz (talk) 15:54, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarifications! A couple of things I have since noticed, which would be great to have are the names of the two missing directors in the company info. box. Also there doesn't appear to be a link when searching the company on 'FTSE 250' on Wikipedia. Any chance of making the link there? Thanks again for help. David de Leyser (talk) 09:08, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- The company was already listed at FTSE 250 Index, but I've modified it so that the entry links to the new article. As for the infobox, the guidelines for the template state: Limit to at most three or four people, using popular names rather than formal names. That was why I removed the two board directors, as I thought that the CEO and CFO should take priority. If you feel it would be better to replace the non-executive chairman with the executive director Hubert Aulich, then go ahead and edit the page – it's a wiki, after all! haz (talk) 10:24, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Help, I tried uploading some images, and it seems to have messed up the external links and references. Could you help restore it to the way it was this morning before image upload? Thanks David de Leyser (talk) 12:15, 20 May 2008 (UTC)I think I managed to restore it (or was it you?) David de Leyser (talk) 12:23, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like you've managed to do that OK. However, since the images are non-free content copied from a website with a license incompatible with Wikipedia, and the images do not qualify under fair use because they are not essential to the article subject (criterion 8), they must be deleted as copyright violations. Personally, I would suggest that the article is informative enough without the images. However, if you could get permission from the company to use the wafer image using our OTRS system, that could possibly be one to include for illustrating the final output product. haz (talk) 12:42, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarifications and instructions. I'll probably leave the images for the time being and revisit sometime in the future. David de Leyser (talk) 09:30, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- OK, not a problem. For future reference, the need to associate edits with users is taken care of by an article's edit history. Therefore, you should use your signature only when contributing to talk pages, the Village Pump, or other such discussion pages. For a better understanding of what distinguishes articles from these type of pages, please see What is an article?. Don't worry — it's a simple mistake to make, but try and make sure you remember it! haz (talk) 15:54, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
