Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, DavidColeStein. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page David Cole (journalist), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Grayfell (talk) 22:56, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Note
[edit]Hello. Allow me to briefly summarize the above boilerplate info, which you should carefully review if you intend to edit Wikipedia:
I'm glad you recognize the problem with editing your own article. You absolutely can post to the talk page (Talk:David Cole (journalist)). This is the best place for you to suggest changes to "your" article. Generally Wikipedia doesn't attempt to verify that you are who you say you are, so we do not accept your talk-page comments as sources for the article itself (per WP:OR and WP:V).
Articles are based on reliable sources. Wikipedia strongly favors independent sources (see WP:SECONDARY and WP:INDY). It seems like you already get this, but it's still worth emphasizing.
I don't mean to be rude, but I would also strongly recommend being more succinct from now on. This is a volunteer project, and very long posts are unlikely to be read carefully. If you feel a strong need for additional input, please consider posting to Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard, where many experienced editors and admins will see your concerns. Again, please be brief. If you feel that there is some emergency, you can instead post to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Thank you. Grayfell (talk) 23:09, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
