Hi, thanks for your input. Looking at the article, I appreciate your concern; it isn't one of our best. I originally listed it for deletion, as I felt it wasn't up to standard. In the end, we decided to keep it, but tag it as being in need of attention. Unfortunately, we have quite a lot of articles tagged as being in need of attention – I can't recall an exact figure, but there are hundreds of thousands of them – so it may be some time before anyone gets around to making significant improvements to it.
It's generally considered a bad idea to make substantial changes to an article about yourself, because of the obvious potential for bias that this can introduce (see our guidelines). However, you can edit it in order to correct obvious factual errors, and to remove nonsense, libellous comments or copyright violations, should any be present. Fortunately the current article seems to be free of such things. Adding citations to a more complete article would be discouraged, but in this case should do no harm, provided the sources you cite are reliable and unbiased (see our policies on reliable sources and the neutral point of view). If you haven't edited before, you may wish to read our introduction to editing.
Ideally the article should be written by other people. You are, however, still welcome to contribute information on the article's discussion page. Every article in Wikipedia has a corresponding discussion page, which is mostly used to discuss major changes to an article before implementing them, and to leave comments on the state of an article and suggestions for its improvement. The discussion page for your article is Talk:David Burt (librarian); you can also get there by going to the article and clicking the "discussion" tab at the top of the page. You are welcome – indeed encouraged – to leave new information, citations and suggestions for improvement on this page, where they can be referred to by anyone adding information or rewriting the article. It may be a while, though, before anyone notices your comments; unfortunately not much can be done about this. We have over 1.5 million articles, all of which need attention, and while thousands of people add new information to articles every day, the often tedious task of cleaning up and reformatting articles such as this one is handled by only a handful of people. All of our contributors, administrators included, work on an entirely voluntary basis – in exchange for little more than complaints, abuse and the pressure of ever-increasing backlogs – and have other commitments. I've tidied up the formatting a little, but rewriting and expanding it is a larger task.
I hope this information is useful to you; I will look through the article in more detail in a few days, and possibly make some improvements to it if I can find the time.
One other thing; I recommend you don't post your phone number, job description and email address here. You may possibly have thought you were sending me an email, but in fact you posted to my user discussion page; bear in mind that on Wikipedia, user discussion pages, like all pages, are viewable by anyone. Email addresses in particular are likely to be collected and used by spammers; as a precaution, I've removed the information from your comment. Thanks – Gurch 22:57, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
