Good job!
[edit]I see that you just introduced yourself on the Teahouse guest page. Congrats. First step in becoming a great Wikipedian. If you need any help I recommend you to be adopted. Or you can ask an expierienced user such as- User:Buster7, User:Cindamuse, User:Ryan Vesey, User:SarahStierch. You can mainly ask Sarah for permission on creating something. I wish I could help, but I'm sort of not allowed to. So, I hope you enjoy Wikipedia and become great here. Feel free to leave me a message as well. RaidenRules! (talk) 18:45, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

This is being posted on your Talk page where you can receive messages from other Wikipedians and discuss issues and respond to questions. At the end of each message you will see a signature left by the editor posting. This is done by signing with four ~~~~ or by pressing or in the editing interface tool box, located just above the editing window (when editing). Do not sign edits that you make in the articles themselves as those messages will be deleted, but only when using the article talkpage, yours or another editor's talkpage. Another valuable page that may provide information and assistance is User:Persian Poet Gal/"How-To" Guide to Wikipedia. If you have any questions about how to do small things *NOT EDITING* than feel free to ask me! Example: talkback messages, rules of talking to other editors, etc. Visit my talk page if you need anything. RaidenRules! (talk) 19:08, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
Swithland Slate suggestion
[edit]Hi Dave, thanks for doing some editing about Swithand Slate. It is good to see you having a go, and starting by doing small edits (much the best way to start getting the hang of things). I will just make a couple of suggestions at this stage, one really easy, and one that takes us all ages to get used to. The easy one first - make sure that all your punctuation has a space after it, to keep everything nicely spaced. It would be good practice to go back over the edits you have done to check these out. You can also use the 'Show Preview' button, to have a look at the thing before it has been saved for public view.
The second is the issue of citations. Wikipedia is about assembling what is known from reliable sources. So any new information added to a page should be backed up by a citation, saying where the information has been written about. Lots of pages have ended up with lots of un-sourced information, and you will come across warnings on some of pages. To avoid this happening to your edits, you will want to get into the habit of adding references, which might be to either a printed book or a reliable website. By putting this between <ref> ... </ref> commands in the text, it will get added to the footnotes at the bottom of the page. A good place to learn more is at Help:Citations quick reference, which also has useful links to further explanations. In short, when editing for wikipedia it is not enough to know a thing is true, you need to be prepared to find out who has convincingly published that it is true. That way both other editors and more importantly, interested readers can both test its reliability, and take their interest further.
Thanks again for having a go at editing. It is well worth sticking with, and feel free to leave any questions on my talk page. RobinLeicester (talk) 21:59, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm The Optimistic Guy. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Draft:The Newarke— because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Disambiguation link notification for April 22
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Battle of St. Quentin Canal, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Henry Rawlinson. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:53, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
Your help desk question

Battle of St. Quentin Canal
[edit]G'day Dave, just wanted to say thank you for your efforts with the Battle of St. Quentin Canal. Nice work! Overall, it is looking quite good. I have one suggestion for further development: have you thought about potentially adding an Aftermath section, to explain the subsequent events and provide any analysis? Anyway, once again, thanks for your work. Cheers, AustralianRupert (talk) 00:48, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi AR, not sure if I'm replying in the right place here. Thanks for your message. I've expanded the article a bit. Not quite sure which subsequent events or what analysis you mean. It may be a task best left to others, but I might give it a go if you could make some suggestions. I have come to have a particular interest in the battle because two of my distant relatives were killed in it and because my local regiment formed part of 46th Division.
- One of my relatives was a tank gunner killed in the attack to which I refer where 4 heavy and 5 medium tanks were destroyed. He was in 8th Battalion in 5th Tank Brigade supporting 15th Infantry Brigade A.I.F. and the freely available stuff from the A.W.M. has been really useful. Cheers, Daveleicuk. 1 May 2017 Daveleicuk (talk) 13:01, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- G'day, yes here is the right place to reply. Regarding subsequent events and analysis I would suggest a discussion of any follow up attacks, or if the line was advanced in the sector any further before the end of the war. Also, I'd suggest mentioning casualties etc. An example of what I mean can be found here: Winter operations 1914–1915. Anyway, thanks for your efforts. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 10:54, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
Online ref
[edit]Thanks for your work on Battle of St. Quentin Canal. After responding t your question, I now intend to actually read it!
At the help desk, you asked:
In this article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_St._Quentin_Canal#References
the first listed item, the American Battle Monuments Commission book, is available as a downloadable pdf or for viewing online. Chapter VI is the relevant one for my ref and I'd like to add it. I'd appreciate help with this Daveleicuk (talk) 16:23, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
I found a much later edition (1992) here:
- Do you believe we should replace the existing referenced (1938) edition with this one, or do you have a link to the old edition? -Arch dude (talk) 02:39, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
If you wish to use the newer edition, I recommend that you check the page numbers in your refs. I also did not actually answer your question. So: you used the cite book template. this template has a "url" parameter. so to make the link just add the parameter, like this:
- American Battle Monuments Commission (1992). American Armies and Battlefields in Europe. Washington,D.C.
{{cite book}}
: Invalid|ref=harv
(help)CS1 maint: location missing publisher (link)
And now off I go to read the article. -Arch dude (talk) 04:16, 7 May 2017 (UTC) Thank you Arch dude.
I will check the 1992 edition. The reason I quoted the 1938 ed was that this seems to be the one to which the current website links when I look at the ABMC info on the Somme American Cemetery or the Bellicourt Memorial. Thanks for the tip on adding the url too. (I still have some more to add to the article too). Daveleicuk (talk) 07:19, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
Hi Arch dude,
I seem to be unable to connect to the ABMC website via your link, but the 1938 edition will be fine and I'll just add the web link. Daveleicuk (talk) 15:44, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
- More here, just in case it wasn't already covered.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:53, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Hi Arch dude,
I managed to accessthe ABMC 1992 edition and it is a facsimile of the original, but thanks anyway,
