AfD Nomination: Dick Hillis

[edit]

An editor has nominated the article Dick Hillis for deletion, under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the nomination (also see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on why the topic of the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome: participate in the discussion by editing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dick Hillis. Add four tildes like this ~~~~ to sign your comments. You can also edit the article Dick Hillis during the discussion, but do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top of the article), this will not end the deletion debate. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. Missionality

[edit]

Missionality sounds great to me! Jwiley80 17:04, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! "missionality." Did you coin that or have others already used it? I would not be shocked if they have since creation of jargon that sounds like gibberish is a postmodern craze that has unfortunately caught on in the emerging church movement that has coopted "missional." Many editors seem to take a postmodern approach to the tone and style of an encyclopedia, which is a modern genre. I oppose such a merger until "missionality" becomes a commonly used term. Encyclopedias should reflect usage not create it.Will3935 19:51, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On the Wikipedia merge page it states "There are several good reasons to merge a page:
  1. Duplicate - There are two or more pages on exactly the same subject. (cite as WP:MM#Duplicate)
  2. Overlap - There are two or more pages on related subjects that have a large overlap. Wikipedia is not a dictionary; there does not need to be a separate entry for every concept in the universe. For example, "Flammable" and "Non-flammable" can both be explained in an article on Flammability. (cite as WP:MM#Overlap)"
After reading about merging and moving pages that seem to overlap, I realized that the term Missionality actually accomplished what was recommended.
I have used this term, but I am not aware how widely it's been used. Since I am not part of the emerging church movement, nor do I intend to join it, I wanted to set the record straight. Based on the Wikipedia article, I just thought it might be a good direction to head.
Also, the reason I didn't join the discussion earlier is that I was in India for two weeks and have been catching up on a lot of things. DaveDV 07:27, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Re: Alan Hirsch

[edit]

After looking into it, it appears that the text was a copyright violation (even the introduction text). In that case, it cannot be restored. - Rjd0060 (talk) 13:28, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you believe it meets our inclusion guidelines, sure. Please review WP:YFA first. - Rjd0060 (talk) 13:42, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on User:DaveDV, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
