Non-free image reduction not running

Hi DatGuy,

I uploaded File:Connecticut_Southern_Railroad_logo.svg a week ago. It was tagged for size reduction 6 days ago, but DatBot has not done a reduction. Is there something stopping the bot from running on this image? Trainsandotherthings (talk) 22:54, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

@Trainsandotherthings I'll take a look in a bit. DatGuyTalkContribs 15:22, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
Fixed, File:Portrait of Christine Oestreicher receiving her Oscar in 1982.tif was corrupt. Improved error handling. DatGuyTalkContribs 12:37, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
That was definitely not what I was expecting, but I'm glad you were able to fix the issue! Trainsandotherthings (talk) 01:20, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

  • A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. Let's see if I understand

I had a red notification saying that Brewnorah had mentioned me on WP:AN. When I followed the notification, it took me to WP:AN, but not to anywhere within AN. Am I correct that Brewnorah is a long-term abuse account, and was blocked, and that you revdel'd (redacted) their post as purely disruptive material? (Well, having read the descriptions of RD2 and RD3, I am not sure that I know the difference, and I am not sure that there is much of a difference.) So was this a case of cleaning up the troll dung? Robert McClenon (talk) 21:12, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

@Robert McClenon: precisely right. DatGuyTalkContribs 09:07, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Response

I saw your message. The ProveIt gadget provides a tag on the edit from where it is used I thought. I understand when adding content. I can add that no problem in most cases. Thanks for the info. Red Director (talk) 20:39, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

@Red Director: thank you. Even summaries such as 'added citation for home runs in Field of Dreams game" are extremely helpful when looking over a page history or watchlist. DatGuyTalkContribs 20:47, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Can we please not?

Can we please not do this [1]. It makes no sense. I'm going to refer to WP:FOOTY at this stage, because I feel this is bordering on disruptive now, and I want to know whether it's just me. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 19:45, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

@Gricehead you could refer to me with any concerns you have, and I can apply modifications such as only updating when the entire gameday is over, but if you feel this requires direct attention from a wider audience then sure, as I see you've done. I've disabled the run until the discussion is resolved. DatGuyTalkContribs 18:52, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
Please copy paste this to WT:FOOTY, for some reason it isn't letting me edit there:
The (X of Y matches played) is there because I saw it used in the PL table with no objections. I didn't make it up. As for the diff, the bot wouldn't make an edit only changing the date. The edit occured because the data was changed in the reference, and the position was therefore updated to match. DatGuyTalkContribs 19:02, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
Copied across as requested.
My main concern is that there is no need to make such regular updates, especially on the completion of one match when another may be underway or soon underway. It's a step away from live league tables, and wikipedia is not a live news source. One update, at the end of all the games scheduled that day, is quite sufficient. There are many leagues tables in articles on the project that would actually benefit from that level of update. Let's see what the rest of the interested community think, though. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 22:37, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

Your partial block of 2600:4040:12aa:7200::/64

You might want to expand that block to other pages or remove the partial part.   –Skywatcher68 (talk) 21:55, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

I've changed it to a sitewide EW block for another week. DatGuyTalkContribs 08:45, 9 December 2022 (UTC)

Vandalism block

I see that you have blocked the IP range 136.144.43.0/24 for "vandalism". I don't agree with that description. The editing appears to be a good-faith but badly implemented attempt by an inexperienced editor to add to an article coverage of a genuine event. A more experienced editor has now added a much better account of the incident to the article. Also, the block is no longer needed, as I have protected the article. Would you object if I were to lift the block? JBW (talk) 18:33, 9 December 2022 (UTC)

@JBW: I digress — I can pass off the first paragraph in good faith, but "Conspiracy theory just means spoiler alert these days.", "PROVEN TRUE BY ELON MUSK AND THE TWITTER FILES", "Quit changing the narrative," as well as the abuse log is too much. I preferred blocking to protecting since I noticed some non-confirmed editors trying to improve it, such as [2] (who was not autoconfirmed at the time of edit), but I have no outstanding issue with the protection. DatGuyTalkContribs 18:44, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
I've also just noticed the /24 range is owned by a webhost provider through a VPN service, so I've increased it to a month. DatGuyTalkContribs 18:46, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
You digress? Do you mean digress? JBW (talk) 19:08, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
Sorry, I mean disagree. DatGuyTalkContribs 19:09, 9 December 2022 (UTC)

Re-reading what I wrote above, I realise that I didn't actually say what I intended to. What I meant to say was that I didn't disagree with the block, just with the word "vandalism". Somehow, during the tedious process of typing in my message with one finger on my phone, I managed to forget that that was my intention, and finished off by suggesting unblocking. Eugenics hair science?

Do you think that company knows what eugenics means? Or is this some hardcore hair restoration? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:37, 10 December 2022 (UTC)

Perhaps the founder knew eugenics was a word that's somehow related to science, and it felt nice to their ears. They wrote all their promotional material and sent it for copyediting. The editor says "looks great, it'll fit perfectly on your Wikipedia userpage. By the way, you know eugenics is kinda fucked up and unrelated to hair loss, right?" But oh, the founder had a deadline! Quick, CTRL+F 'eugenics', replace with 'eugenix'. There, now it's perfect.
This sounded better in my head. DatGuyTalkContribs 14:56, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
Quick! We need a biology related science word we can put an x at the end of! What sounds the most sciencey? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:58, 10 December 2022 (UTC)

Protective editing requests/advice for combating disruptive editing

Hello! A few weeks ago, I requested page protections for both the Battle of Bakhmut, the Battle of Avdiivka (2022 and the Southern Ukraine campaign, in order to stop repeated unjustified removal of sourced information about Russian casualty claims. While the pages were both protected (I believe you added protections for the Avdviika page, but I’m unsure if you did so for the other ones), the previous user, who apparently has performed more than 500 edits (while I have not), just went back in and removed them again. Since I’m not able to edit them back into the pages, and since no one else has either noticed, or responded to my requests via the talk page, I was wondering if you could help me out. Some new information has come out regarding the battles, specifically about Bakhmut, and it’s unfortunately been overlooked and not added to the pages. If you could temporarily removed the protections, or add in the new material (links are at the bottom of my post), that would be very helpful. I‘ve also been having some difficulties in handling the disruptive editing, which has also gone on in several other pages, because the offending user has been tracking my editing history, and removing information that does not line up with official Russian claims. Is there any advice you can give to me, such as how to prevent him from tracking my edits? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Due to extensive disruption, only extended-confirmed users may edit articles related to the Russo-Ukrainian war, see WP:GS/RUSUKR. You may use the talk pages of the articles to post constructive comments and make edit requests related to articles within the topic area. DatGuyTalkContribs 08:43, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

Velthuru

Hi, you doled out a pblock to Velthuru a few weeks ago, but they're up to the same old tricks in new articles, so I think it's time to re-examine whether this editor is competent to contribute at all. Elizium23 (talk) 22:13, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

I gave them a 1 month DE block to see if they realise they need to change their ways. DatGuyTalkContribs 09:19, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
