Hi. I appreciate the problem you're having, but I'm not really experienced with mediation and sourcing issues. If you feel administrator intervention is necessary, I recommend you post at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, which should bring it to the attention of someone who is used to handling problems such as this. Re: Problems with names

Hello, there's a discussion at the X JAPAN article, the official name is X JAPAN, the members are: YOSHIKI, TOSHI, hide, PATA, HEATH, etc. and it's officials, they have a trademark, it's YOSHIKI® but someone is always putting X Japan and Yoshiki, he's avoiding the trademarks or the copyright, if the name is X JAPAN, why puting X Japan? You can take a look at their official site and you'll notice that the name is X JAPAN, the same happens with KOTOKO her name is KOTOKO not Kotoko, so if in her albums, singles, etc, she puts KOTOKO it must be KOTOKO in the article, so, the same happens with X JAPAN, their name was X JAPAN and not X Japan, but people don't know this, what can I do? If we put X Japan we are not respecting the copyright. Darkcat21 13:12, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I understand the point you're making, but the editor using lowercase is doing nothing wrong. Wikipedia has an extensive style guide that, like the encyclopedia, has been developed over time by many contributors. The guidelines for trademarks, found at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks), specify:

Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment:
avoid: REALTOR®
instead, use: Realtor

Wikipedia's use of trademarked names in encyclopediaic articles is standard practise and is not infringing any trademarks or copyrights, so there's nothing to "avoid". Copyright issues are not case-sensitive, and apply regardless of capitalization.

Like all wiki pages the style guidelines are not fixed, but they reflect consensus, and most experienced editors will follow them where necessary. If you feel a guideline should be changed, then you are welcome to bring up the issue on the discussion page, in this case Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (trademarks). However, you will likely need to demonstrate that there is consensus for the change – Gurch 14:28, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Civility

[edit]

You wrote Seriously, you're a rascist and a bit idiot, sorry but it's the truth. Fair use rationale for Image:Iphone2.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Iphone2.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:07, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Malice112.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Malice112.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 07:14, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You stated that "if the articles is deleted I'll create it again". I just wanted to let you know that trying to recreate the Jun (musician) article would be very unwise. When articles deleted due to an AfD are deleted, they can be speedy deleted, meaning that the article may be deleted on sight and will not be discussed again. No me sorprende que la española sea mejor.  ;-) Respecto a Japanese rock, fue decidido no borrar ese artículo porque existían referencias. Sin embargo Wikipedia:Verifiability dice, "editors should provide a reliable source for material that is challenged or likely to be challenged, or it may be removed."
ShadowHalo 23:35, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I want to say this in English since I'm not fluent with Spanish and I don't want to make any errors. I think it might be helpful if Cyrus XIII and you take a short break (a few days to a week) from editing the Japan X article and its related articles so that some neutral parties can have a go at it. This would help remedy some of the back-and-forth editing and establish the article from a detached standpoint, and it would allow Cyrus XIII and you to cool down. I've found that during disputes, it's harder for me to see the article as a whole during a dispute, but if some neutral participants (people who provided outside opinions and people from related WikiProjects) were to work on the articles, it would be easier for them since they're less involved. Cyrus XIII has said that he'd be willing to take a break from it for a week or so; would you be willing to do this as well? ShadowHalo 02:46, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your recent contribution(s) to Wikipedia are very much appreciated. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. If sources are left unreferenced, it may count as original research, which is not allowed. Can you provide in the article specific references to any books, articles, websites or other reliable sources that will allow people to verify the content in the article? You can use a citation method listed at inline citations that best suits each article. Thanks! I'm willing to work with you to bring the articles to a higher standard, but I can't help if you're removing citations as you did here. ShadowHalo 22:03, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Visual Kei

[edit]

You have said my edits at Visual kei article were "strange", Ok, look X Japan was formed in 1982, and Visual Kei fas formed in 1994, do I have to say more? Visual kei was an expansion of Visual with gothic clothes, compare a really Visual kei band (Malice Mizer) looks with X Japan ones, and you'll see the difference. Darkcat21 21:59, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, apparently the New York Times, MSJapan, I and pretty much everyone else who has previously worked on the visual kei article disagree with you. - Cyrus XIII 05:52, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, this is really difficult to explain but I will, I'll do it here instead of Visual Kei talk if you want you or I can translate this into the talk. First of all, stop adding the New York Times article, it contains some errors, for example about visual kei:

X Japan went from playing loud, fast thrash-metal to stadium-shaking pop ballads, in the process pioneering its own genre, a Japanese equivalent of glam rock known as visual kei.

It's my opinion or he's saying that visual kei is a musical genre, he talks about the music and he says "pioneering its own genre", really visual kei is a genre? You have also said that visual kei it's not a genre and due to this you deleted some stuff at the main article, so we have the first error, he don't know what's visual kei, then equivalent to glam rock... ehem... compare:

  • Image:KISS in concert Boston 2004.jpg - Glam Rock
  • Image:Malice Mizer - Gardenia 01.jpg - Visual Kei

Can you see the difference? Also check this if you want: http://www.asiaweek.com/asiaweek/98/0522/feat1.html "Their style was Visual Rock", X Japan was Visual Rock not Visual Kei, the one from NYT was wrong, and I'll say that he was influenced by that article on asiaweek, or the ones from asiaweek fixed lot of errors that there were in the NYT article. Or this: http://weeklywire.com/ww/11-02-98/fw_music.html

Then we have that X Japan was created in 1982 (as hide official site says) then we have that Visual Kei was created in mid 90s, how can you explain this? Darkcat21 20:22, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We have been through this several times: Present reliable sources for notable information and no one will object if you add it to Wikipedia. Controversial edits require discussion until a consensus is reached. - Cyrus XIII 23:46, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
VK was not created in the 90s, period. This is OR, but there are three or four distinct phases of VK, and the 90s was just the second of these. MSJapan 20:32, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, visual vs. VK is an unnecessary distinction. No one active in the scene considers there to be a difference, and if VK is gothic only, how do you explain Haruhiko Ash claiming Eve of Destiny was not VK? No way do I buy that Mana created VK, either. I'd be surprised if he ever said that, and if he did, I bet it was to market his EGL stuff. There's just as much documentable evidence for gothic influence from the UK New Romantics as there are from Japanese bands. I've got Fool's Mates from 1984 that are entirely UK-focused. Also, if you want to say is Visual and not VK, how do you explain Luna Sea, who were definitely VK, and on the same label as X Japan? It's basically fan nonsense that claims Mana started VK, and it's the same fan nonsense that claims X Japan started visual. Show me a Japanese-language primary source that says this, and I might think otherwise after I translate it. MSJapan 23:27, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Art of Life citations

No offense, but I am not sure whether you should be handing out advice regarding references. After all, that request for comment has been filed against you for citation-related reasons, among other things. And what exactly are you suggesting here? To cite information under an arbitrary "official biography" label instead of precisely stating its origin? - Cyrus XIII 21:27, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey, you're saying that I can't help people? You're banning me or whatever? It's yor problem if you don't have enough money to buy that official book and check the info written by staff from the band. And also really nice that when I added the same info that I guess that Vespertilio is going to add, Cyrus warned me and deleted the stuff and I was saying that was from a book and this stuff, and now you help him/her, really nice, you have also said this: "but in the absence of any grave misbehavior on your part, no one's going to doubt the good faith behind your contributions." ehem, you were the one that the Art of Life problem was the first problem about sources, then you removed my info, but you won't remove his/her, why? Edit summaries

[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Image:Toshi22.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Toshi22.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I do not see any need for such a page. Most of the information you have listed is already covered by existing articles in some form, solo efforts of certain members do not have anything to do with X Japan's mark in pop culture, all the cover versions could be easily added to the respective single/album articles and a few entries in the list (like the restaurant) raise notability and verifiability concerns. - Cyrus XIII 22:25, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Darkcat21. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:97480.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Darkcat21/X Japan. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 02:00, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Dahlialbum.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dahlialbum.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Thanks for uploading Image:Skin logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:24, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged Image:188773.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. MER-C 09:36, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:X scarsre1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:X scarsre1.jpg. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:26, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Xjapan 20071.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Speedy deletion of Template:User X Japan

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:User X Japan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

The article B.O.X ~Best of X~ has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No sources. Has been tagged for more than four years. We don't know if this info is factual or not because there is no way to check it (WP:verifiability). Challenging and should be removed. Not Notable. See Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Albums.2C_singles_and_songs.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
