I have removed your prod there as invalid. The article was previously prodded [1], and removed four minutes later [2] with edit summary: 'removing own tag, didn't see that he was a state rep', easily visible in the article's one page history. The article has, since its creation, stated that he was a former state representative, including the appropriate category. State representatives are not local politicians, they are members of a state legislature, and are covered by the primary clause of Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Politicans: 1. Politicians and judges who have held international, national or sub-national (statewide/provincewide) office, and members or former members of a national, state or provincial legislature. Only the last sentence there when you added the tag 'He was the only candidate to defeat a sitting member of the Board in 2007.' is non-standard content for officeholder articles, and is still fact-based, although unsourced. I have standardized most of the article formatting. Please be more careful with prodding in the future, especially with politician articles during election cycles. - I saw that, and the way the article was originally appeared when I PRODed, was more of an "oh, by the way..." than anything of consequence. The article looked to me far more like election year campaign spam than a legitimate article, even with that claim of state office. The sole link to the campaign web site was the kicker. You are right, this is an election cycle, and there will be a definite surge in dodgy articles and edits as the candidates look for more venues to be heard. Wikipedia cannot be allowed to become one of those platforms. DarkAudit (talk) 03:44, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
- The most recent substantive edits were January 2008 when he took local office; it had not been updated for his recent return to state office, and falls far short of election cycle spin. I looked for a more current campaign site and didn't find one, or I would have replaced the blog with it. Claimed positions that exceed notability requirements get checked before prodding, not dismissed as 'local politician', and if you're not going to check a short history, it becomes difficult for others to have faith in your recommendations.
