Thank you for your support in my RfA, it meant a lot to me. And you're right, I really do have the best interests of the 'pedia at heart. I also paid close attention to everything that was said in the RfA, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 17:59, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Competition

Why did you abandon judging that competition? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Well its seems like ages ago now!!! lol. I thought you'd decided not to continue with it -particularly as I know there were a number of complaints about incentives. Whatever the case the problem with uneven quality is a major flaw in wikipedia and it will take years before we start the see thousands of articles which will be up to Veropedia standard. I;ve recently looked into creating locator maps for most of the countries in the world so weventually an article on any place it any country will have an infobox and a locator map -you know for all those crappy one line stubs. Some cities with over 300,000 are still one liners!! Have a read of Abbas Kiarostami which I wrote most of-is this good enough for veropedia? Canine trouble huh? Hands down the most painful experience I've ever had is an abscess. I had to be rushed to the Heath Hospital and everything -my face swelled up l;ike a balloon! Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:21, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I personally think there are too many fairuse images in their anyway. Some of the film posters in particular should be removed. I'd rather we kept the ones which are useful to the article though. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:37, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

I;ve removed two of the images. I think we could probably take out another 4 or so -I;d forgotten there were that many fair use images in there. ALso have a read of Casino Royale (2006 film) which I also wrote a major part of. Here we were rather more restrictive with the fair use images. Many editors are citing this page as a model now for film articles on wikipedia. Wouldn't it be great to have them all looking like this! So much work needs doing on building stubs and FA 's can be very stressful I rarely have time to write full articles like this anymore. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:43, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Mongols and Hebrew

Danny, hi, remember that issue about the Franco-Mongol alliance article, where you offered a comment in the RfC? Unfortunately we're still having trouble on that issue, and someone recently brought up that several Hebrew sources say that the Mongols captured the city in 1244 (see El C's post at 21:25)[2]

I of course think that such a claim is absurd, but I don't read Hebrew and can't check the sources for myself. Can you please take a look, and offer your opinion?

Also, the case is now being considered by ArbCom, in case you'd like to offer a statement: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration#Franco-Mongol alliance. Thanks, Elonka 23:50, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Spam in Lake Shore

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Lake Shore, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Lake Shore is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Lake Shore, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Amin Maalouf Leo Africanus.png

Thank you for uploading Image:Amin Maalouf Leo Africanus.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:09, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Riana's request for bureaucratship

Dear Danny, thank you for taking part in my RfB. As you may know, it was not passed by bureaucrats.
I would, however, like to thank you for taking the time to voice your support, despite concerns cited by the opposition. Although RfA/B isn't really about a person, but more about the community, I was deeply touched and honoured by the outpouring of support and interest in the discussion. I can only hope that you don't feel your opinion was not considered enough - bureaucrats have to give everyone's thoughts weight.
I also hope that the results of this RfB lead to some change in the way we approach RfBs, and some thought about whether long-entrenched standards are a good thing in our growing and increasingly heterogenous community.
I remain eager to serve you as an administrator and as an editor. If at any point you see something problematic in my actions, please do not hesitate to call me out. ~ Riana 12:48, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Ojibwa Feather Symbolism

Danny

Given that the article was printed in 1898 in the American Anthropologist which was printed by American Anthropological Association, we can probably guess that's it's in the public domain in the US and various other places. Well I can empathise with your concerns about JSTOR links, wouldn't it be better to ask me (who presumably has access to JSTOR, since I used it to write the article) or someone you know has access to JSTOR to upload the article to Wikisource and link it from there? I've never used Wikisource, so I'm not sure about their licensing. Are you concerned JSTOR could get all suey over of Use 2.2h? Term 2.1h makes me think they wouldn't, but if you know better, please share.

"Merge and delete is a violation of the GFDL"

Danny, I don't know what to do about this one. I'm going to need some help. See here.

Summary: an admin, Bryan Derksen, has undeleted material that has been merged with the claim that the GFDL obligates Wikipedia to maintain article history on all pages, including deleted ones, or we are violating copyright:

"That text, which I hold the copyright to but have licenced to Wikipedia under the GFDL, is now in the Kobold (Dungeons & Dragons) article. However, if you look at that article's history, you won't see my attribution under it. Wikipedia "gets away" with this by considering itself to be a unitary work, so the fact that my attribution remains under the old article's history means it's still compliant. However, the moment you deleted Tucker's kobolds my contribution was no longer attributed to me anywhere in Wikipedia. That meant that Wikipedia was violating my license terms, making the article Kobold (Dungeons & Dragons) into a copyright violation. This may seem like quibbling, but really, the GFDL is fundamental to making Wikipedia work and so compliance is very important."

I have re-deleted the page in question and removed the text in question until we can get office clarification on this. Bryan Derksen's interpretation of the GFDL seems completely novel to me, but I figured that you would be able to offer an authoritative opinion on this. Is he right? If so, as he says, we have an awful lot of cleanup work to start doing. Nandesuka (talk) 23:24, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

I've taken this up at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#A case of merge and delete and the GFDL. My position is being misstated here, BTW; I only believe the GFDL requires histories to be maintained for articles whose text is still in Wikipedia, ie, merged into other articles. Bryan Derksen (talk) 23:34, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Althought I am by no means an authority on this, I tend to agree with Bryan's position here. Danny (talk) 23:36, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Last night, there was a discussion about your removal. Probably you weren't notified of it. Most of the other channel members weren't. James_F went on to remove you from the channel. Me and other concerned members of the channel have tried to figure out the reason for your removal. The ops and arbcom, sadly involved, has not been willing to offer an explanation. The most plausible theory right now is that you were removed for not being part of the clique and whistleblowing. The ops have not budged on this issue. --Maxim(talk) 12:30, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Icelanders GA Sweeps Review: On Hold

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "Culture and Society" articles. I have reviewed Icelanders and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left this message on your talk page since you have significantly edited the article (based on using this article history tool). Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix with the assistance of multiple editors. I have also left messages on the talk pages for other editors and related WikiProjects to spread the workload around some. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 06:33, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry I have been AWOL. Do you think this merits its own article? Slrubenstein | Talk 22:46, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

hi

Hi i got your name from metawiki and i was just writing to enquire as to how, and if it would be possible to start a Black Country dialect wikipedia. There is a group on facebook with the aim of starting a facebook in the dialect which has 30,000 members so there is an audience for it, I'm willing to do the work, and dialects in other languages have wikipedias but I was wondering if it was likely that they would let this get off the ground before i started trying to get it started. cheers.

I have conducted a review of this article as part of the GA sweeps process. There are some issues which need addressing, which can be found at Talk:No Man Knows My History: The Life of Joseph Smith/GA1. The article is on hold for seven days, so that these concerns may be addressed. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 00:55, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

This file was moved to Commons from English Wikipedia, but some description information may have got lost in the process.

As you are noted as the original uploader, or in the history for the file, it would be appreciated if you could help in reconstructing this information.

Thanks for you assistance and keep uploading 'free' media :)Sfan00 IMG (talk) 01:55, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Danny! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 7 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 87 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
