Popular pages
I reverted the edit you made on the popular pages bot. When you copied the text from reality TV, you didn't change the report line It seemed to mess the bot up for this month, as there was no report so I reverted. I looked for a sub page in UStv for popular pages, but didn't see one in I would of just updated the report line for it. Just letting you know so you can set it up properly. WikiVirusC(talk) 23:36, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
- @WikiVirusC: Sounds like an exceptionally poor design of the bot to allow a single misconfigured entry to shut down reporting entirely. Also, the reason you didn't see the "sub page" for Wikipedia:WikiProject Television/American television task force is that the bot creates the "sub page" the first time it runs for a particular WikiProject. In other words, if the bot hasn't ever run for a particular WikiProject, there is no Popular_pages report. -- DanielPenfield (talk) 07:13, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- Not my design, but I notice the problem. And yeah I figured it never ran, although you can created a blank page for it to fill in the first report, it doesn't really matter. Anyways thanks for the correction. WikiVirusC(talk) 11:09, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
- @WikiVirusC: OK, I see what happened. The bot ran, but it ran late (according to the "Updated on" column of User:Community Tech bot/Popular pages, it started running six days before you started this discussion), so you assumed having a misconfigured entry stopped it from running. It appears that the bot does not re-read the config during the ten days it takes to run, so the net effect was that Wikipedia:WikiProject_Television/Reality_television_task_force/Popular_pages was updated twice and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Television/American_television_task_force/Popular_pages was not created. BTW, I mentioned the problem of mistake proofing editing the Wikipage-based config during the refresh of the popular pages report (the original implementation prevented mistakes by allowing config editing only indirectly), but was dismissed. -- DanielPenfield (talk) 09:54, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

The article Edwin L. Crawford has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails WP:POLITCIAN, non notable
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rusf10 (talk) 01:47, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
Nomination of Edwin L. Crawford for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Edwin L. Crawford is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edwin L. Crawford (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Rusf10 (talk) 01:54, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
Edit war warning
First you delete my comment.
Now you are edit warring.
Your recent editing history at Talk:Robert Atkins (nutritionist) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Disambiguation link notification for March 26
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Charles D'Amico High School, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Albion, New York (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

ClueBot III archive templates
Hi. It appears that the ClueBot III archive templates you inserted in several talk pages weren't properly configured, resulting in the boxes being incorrectly populated. See User talk:ClueBot Commons/Archives/2018/January#ClueBot III ArchiveThis template error for details. --Paul_012 (talk) 06:47, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Daniel, did you miss the above? There are still pages with crazy archive indexes, both from back in January (random examples: Talk:Tencent, Talk:Deezer) as well as this month (Talk:Maplin, Talk:Born to Be Wild). I am not competent to bot wrangle and clearing it up is really more your responsibility than anyone else's. Thanks and best wishes Captainllama (talk) 02:42, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Captainllama: I see that you are unfamiliar with the concept of Defensive design. The archive template really should be designed so it can only be used as intended and no other way. If you design your template in a way that allows users to specify "incorrect" values for parameters or to omit "required" parameters, you really should be blaming yourself, not your users. Regardless, I've left a request at User talk:ClueBot Commons/Archives/2018/March#Task request to create a permanent bot task that detects and attempts to correct omissions of the archiveprefix parameter or inclusion of mw:Help:Magic words#Variables in the archiveprefix value. Note that you could just as easily have made this same request yourself way back when. -- DanielPenfield (talk) 05:50, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
- Daniel, you are still configuring archives incorrectly. It's not the responsibility of the designer to go back and fix your mistakes just because you can't be bothered to follow instructions. Literally all you need to do is add "archiveprefix={{subst:FULLPAGENAME}}/Archives/". Please do this in the future - and please go back and fix all of the broken archive boxes you've created. ansh666 18:02, 7 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Ansh666:
- 1. My account name is DanielPenfield, but my name is neither Daniel nor is it Penfield.
- 2. Where is the proof for your accusation that I am "still configuring archives incorrectly"?
- 3. It appears that you are correct that simply respecifying
archiveprefix
eventually induces ClueBot III to regenerate the index: [1] - 4. Since my request for bot assistance was ignored (User_talk:ClueBot Commons/Archives/2018/March#Task request), it's going to take me some time to write a script to download my edit history then using that download the content for talk pages I've edited and then search that for ClueBot archiving templates.
- 5. It's not the responsibility of the designer to go back and fix your mistakes just because you can't be bothered to follow instructions The self-contradictory instructions are just as big a problem as the template that was designed to allow users to make mistakes in the first place. An even bigger problem is the small-minded attitude that blaming the user for the shortcomings of the User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis design is somehow going to prevent errors by others in the future—see Defensive design and Poka-yoke. And that still hasn't addressed the fundamental shortcoming of having to specify an
archiveprefix
at all: The fact that any page moves require the mover to remember to updatearchiveprefix
—see User_talk:ClueBot Commons/Archives/2018/March#Proper use of the ArchiveThis Template -- DanielPenfield (talk) 23:04, 7 April 2018 (UTC)- In regards to #2 - did you see the discussion I mentioned lower on your talk page? Mike Rowe archive
"unwarranted and gratuitous change"? What? I fixed the archive. The way you set it up created 10 years of archives onto a single archive year called "2015". Jauerbackdude?/dude. 14:07, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
