Hello, I would appreciate if someone would show me how to create svg files. I would like to add one to an article. Thank you. DanielBaroque (talk) 23:53, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- I've used Illustrator to do a little of this, but there's a lot of other options, you might find some information here. In particular, Inkscape is free and runs under a number of operating systems, and might be just the thing if you don't have any drawing software. You might also be able to get assistance here! Hope this helps! --j⚛e deckertalk 03:44, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
How do I create svg files?

Thank you, Joe. I am specifically looking just to insert another svg file under the already-existing article named FACH. It will be under Tiefer Alt. Can you help me create that? DanielBaroque (talk) 04:33, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Well, let me give it a shot--but first I need to make sure I understand the situation. You have the new SVG file, it's on your computer, and you would like to add it to the article? Is that right? --j⚛e deckertalk 04:43, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- If that is right, there's a couple steps. First you need to upload the image (which must generally be your own work, or public domain, or creative-commons licensed) to our servers. You can do that in one of two ways, I'd recommend uploading it to Commons here, and at the end of that process, it will give you a bit of wikitext that you can use to insert that image into a Wikipedia article. In general that's going to look something like:
[[File:MyFilename.jpg|thumb|right|180px|Some caption for the photo]]
- There's also a basic tutorial at Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. Hope that helps some! --j⚛e deckertalk 04:50, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- (Looking at Fach, I see about what you're trying to do.) if you need help creating the image in the first place, that's probably beyond my skills, but would be a great thing to ask for at the Illustration Workshop, there should be a link to create a request here. --j⚛e deckertalk 05:01, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for your patience with this. How do I access the Illustration Workshop?
- Actually, a better link is here, and there should be a fairly obvious link to create a new request there. Glad to help! Cheers, --j⚛e deckertalk 05:10, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help! I really appreciate it. Cheers, DanielBaroque (talk) 05:13, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, I also dropped a note by the editor who made some of the previous graphics, he or she appears not to have edited for a few weeks, but I've left a note on their talk page on Wikimedia Commons, perhaps that will help, too. Cheers, --j⚛e deckertalk 05:15, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, OK, then! I shall proceed forward! DanielBaroque (talk) 05:18, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
