When Pigs Fly...

Since no one has objected to the new enroll page, do you think we should go ahead and roll it out once the new student is officially taken? I'd like to get this rolling ASAP - another note, the archives ran last night and work perfectly. Thanks :)Theopolisme TALK 14:29, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

 Already done Dan653 (talk) 19:32, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Achowat's Leaving?

See this. I can't believe it :(. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:13, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

I know, I kind of saw it coming. Dan653 (talk) 19:32, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
It makes me a bit sad to see him go. I thought that he would give us a bit more warning to appoint a Coordinator in his place, and fix up everything else. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:49, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Well you'll just have to look to me for direction :P Dan653 (talk) 19:54, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Nothing wrong with that! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:01, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Selection of the new Coordinator

Ok, so how should this system work? I think instead of a "Support-Oppose-Neutral" system is less ideal than just a general discussion of the candidate. We're a generally tight-knit group and I think having an "Oppose" category would challenge that a bit. I think just a "What do you think of this candidate?" kind of discussion would be better. It will allow people to bring up things like Tenure and the work being done etc. without necessarily getting into "I like this guy, but I don't like this guy". It'll make the discussion less about voting, as well (which, we've had a small bit of a problem with) and let real honest-to-goodness consensus lead the way.

And you guys need to learn to read . I'm not going anywhere and I fully intend to function as a Coordinator until my successor is chosen. Achowat (talk) 20:25, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I just wanted to get at least something up. Also, I do read, just selectivly :P Dan653 (talk) 20:28, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Phew! A sigh of relief! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:30, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
So I think we should take noms and self-noms until maybe-next-week and then open up the discussion. Achowat (talk) 20:31, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Also, we need a discussion for a new Deputy Instructor here. I agree with you that a Support/Neutral/Oppose thing won't work, and if someone opposes someone else, they might take it personally, especially since we're a very small group and are very close together.Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:33, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, one week, or less if there are no new noms in three days. If you nomiate someone the person has to accept it, of course.
I thought that the co-coordinators pick their deputy coordinator... Dan653 (talk) 20:34, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, I don't remember being involved in the chosing of a Deputy, nor involved in a discussion creating such a position. That being said, I think the Deputy issue is one that should be dealt with in a larger forum. Achowat (talk) 20:38, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
From the status page the roll of the deputy is to assist the coordinators when they cannot attend to their duties in a timely matter. Dan653 (talk) 20:40, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Also, what are the standards for getting nominated? For example, I don't mean to be rude to Theopolsime, but I have more edits (6.5K) and have been an instructor for longer than he has. Again, this doesn't mean that I feel that I am more qualified than him. This isn't an ego trip, and I'm very happy that 2 admins offered to nominate me for my RfA in January.Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:41, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

(edit conflict)It's like RFA. The standards are whatever the Academy members think are useful in determining who should be the next Coord.Achowat (talk) 20:43, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Mind if I stick my nose in? I think we should keep the process simple. There should be a period of time for nominations (a week, say?); then, a week for discussion. Perhaps create a selection page which has a level 2 heading for each candidate, and then a level 3 Discussion section, and a level 3 Support section. No comments would be allowed in support. We would then have an outside, uninvolved person (preferably an admin or someone else trusted and experienced) to close the discussion, making the decision based on both vote counts and the discussions. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 20:43, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
You have any Admin friends who would be willing to stop by and make the final call? Achowat (talk) 20:44, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm sure someone would be willing to close it for us if we posted a message at WP:AN. And here is an example of what I mean. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 20:46, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good Zippy. Also, guys I won't be back on the computer until 9 so please dont do anything drastic :P Dan653(talk) 20:47, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
I have boldly created the selection page here; please make/discuss any amendments you think necessary.ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 21:27, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, Zippy. Also, I think that the runner(s)-up should become the deputy coordinators. Electriccatfish2(talk) 21:40, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I forgot to give you the link. Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy/Coordinator selection. ECF, I'm inclined to keep this focused on the one coordinator we need to select (though others may disagree). Deputies can be decided later (and the process can probably be used to inform that), but right now, we need to quickly and efficiently make a transition. AFT5 info

Please read WP:AFT5/G/M and please AGF and don't hide caps-loving anonymous users. They're trying to improve, and I just featured one you hid. That's right. --J (t) 00:44, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Okay. Dan653 (talk) 00:45, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. I'm currently unhiding all caps and useful comments, if you don't mind. --J (t) 00:54, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Be my guest, but a crapload are giberish and curses galore too. Dan653 (talk) 00:58, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Still feel free to hide rants and profanity all you want. That is perfectly well in the book. --J (t) 01:01, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Good afternoon, Dan

Good afternoon, Dan. I just wanted to inform you that you Pathoschild responded to your request @Pathoschild/Scripts/Synchbot and is still awaiting a response, if you do not respond soon the request could be closed as "Not done" and then you would have to submit a new request (which would put you at the bottom of the list). Cheers, Riley Huntley talk No talkback needed; I'll temporarily watch here. 06:06, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know! Dan653 (talk) 01:38, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Article Feedback newsletter

Hey all!

So, big news this week - on Tuesday, we ramped up to 5 percent of articles :). There's been a lot more feedback (pardon the pun) as I'm sure you've noticed, and to try and help we've scheduled a large number of office hours sessions, including one this evening at22:00 UTC in the#wikimedia-office connect channel, and another at 01:00 UTC for the aussies amongst us :). I hope to see some of you there - if any of you can't make it but have any questions, I'm always happy to help.

Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 20:44, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

CSDH

Hi! I use the CSD Helper Script to help out at [[C:SD]. Does this count as an anti-vandalism tool? (I also use the AFC Helper Script and AWB, but those aren't vandalism-related). Electric Catfish 22:12, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Could you give me alink and what does it do? Dan653 (talk) 15:11, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
WP: CSDH. I often help out in admin-related areas, such as AIV, ANI, UAA, ANEW, PERM, and C:SD. This script allows non-admins to contest (decline) speedy deletion nominations or change the CSD tag into a PROD. It also lets admins delete pages. Electric Catfish 20:51, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't think so. While it does work on AIV, it seems to be used more deletions than anti-vandalism. Dan653 (talk) 17:24, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
