Speedy deletion nomination of Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from https://www.smbe.org/smbe/ABOUT/Mission.aspx. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Recent edit to Jody Hey
[edit]Hello. I noticed that you made an edit to a biography of a living person (Jody Hey), but that you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Materialscientist (talk) 09:53, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Daliberles. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Journal of Molecular Evolution, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Randykitty (talk) 12:55, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
Hi, don't think that I don't understand your frustration. However, we cannot write articles based on what we know. WP purely goes by sources. And those do not say that the journal is not affiliated with that society any more (or that the society doesn't exist any more, even though Google fails to come up with a homepage). Worse, some library catalogs (like this one list the journal as "Journal of molecular evolution : the journal of the International Society of Molecular Evolution"... I know, such library catalogs are very unreliable and often horribly outdated, but the fact remains that there was a connection between the journal and the society. What we need is an editorial or article about the history of the journal that clearly verifies that this relationship doesn't exist any more (and ideally when it stopped). As long as we do not have such a source, all we can say is that a relationship was announced in 1993. Saying that we cannot find it any more and that it therefore must have ended is original research and/or synthesis and that is not allowed on WP. See also WP:TRUTH. Hope this explains things a bit better than short edit summaries. --Randykitty (talk) 16:38, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
