I edited the article to remove this claim. In the future you can be bold to fix mistakes, though it is always preferable if you have a reliable source that supports what you're saying.

You can correct the article. It would be good to give a reference... which we call a citation...
Regarding your comment about citations: Have you noticed that there's a "Cite" toolbar which allows you to automatically generate the required wiki code?
You click one of the templates, e.g. "book", and fill in the details.

I removed the phrase "even though he was the national champion in the event" from the Duncan Armstrong article,[1] since you thought that was wrong. If there are more changes you think are needed, you can be bold and fix them yourself, or be more specific about the required revisions on the talk page.
