Your signature
[edit]Hi DaGizza. I see that you use a template for your signature. As mentioned on WP:~~~~, this is harmful to server performance, especially when you change the template. Would you mind setting your signature to work in the normal way using Special:Preferences? Cheers, Sam Korn 12:04, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
Welcome to Esperanza!
[edit]Welcome, DaGizza/Archive/2, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy. Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be February 28, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work! --Celestianpower háblame 18:39, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
AFL players
[edit]Yep, I check the number of articles in a category. For example, there are 27 articles in the Category of Carlton Blues players, but one of the articles is under "*", so doesnt count as a player. I found out the number of total players of each club in their history (for Carlton, 1088) by checking the Rleague site and using Excel.
Also if you haven't already, check out the reorganising of players under Category:Australian Rules footballers and Category:Australian rules football.

[edit]Thank you for the offer.I am sorry I am in some other projects now and , in fact, I am not a great knowledgeable person of Cricket !! Anyway, I will join the project after a few months ! Dwaipayanc--Dwaipayanc 17:48, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, I just want to say thanks for supporting me on my request for adminship! It passed by a 58/3/0 margin, so I am now an administrator. If you need me to help you out, or you find that I'm doing anything wrong, please don't hesitate to contact me. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 20:16, 6 January 2006 (UTC) |

[edit]Many thanks for your support on my request for adminiship, I'm sure you'll be glad to know the final result was 92/1/0. I am now an administrator and (as always) if I do anything you have issue with, please talk about it with me. --Alf melmac 11:31, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi Rohit, I have seen that you are a Hindu and have made contibutions related to Hinduism here on Wikipedia. There is a Hinduism project here which was made, to improve the standard of all the Hindu related articles here. You may consider joining it.
Also, may you please tell me where do you find the devanagari font which you have used. An axample is on Krishna. Thanks DaGizza Chat 20:10, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hi DaGizza, I use a windows PC and so I have installed font support for Devanagari scripts using the windows setup CD. If you're using windows XP, then go to control-panel->regional & language options->on the "languages tab" check the "install files for complex script..." box. After this click the "details" button and add Hindi as an input language for the keyboard. You will see a language selection button on the task-bar using which you can switch between input languages. You will have to experiment with the keys though to find the Devanagari characters.
- P.S.: I have already added myself to the wikiproject quite some time back.

[edit]Sure, we can update it whenever we feel like, possibly keeping a rule of thumb that any article/photo, etc on it should stay for atleast a week and not more than a month. deeptrivia (talk) 22:47, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Cheers mate, I spose I'm a lone ranger with all these Australian rules articles, no-one else seems to recognise the wealth of info I put into them. Hopefully we can spread the word of AFL on this site, because I know there are plenty of potential contributors out there like myself. Rogerthat 03:20, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Your signature
[edit]Hi DaGizza, your signature is very colorful and cool. It is a little distracting however since it is so "highlighted". Have you considered having it stand out less? To make it stand out just for your own ease of finding your comments you can use User:HorsePunchKid's technique of span tags; see also User:Quarl/advanced_sig.js for a way to automate that. —Quarl (talk) 2006-01-11 08:32Z
- Sorry, but I'm a bit confused. In your message you said that you wanted my signature to stand out less. But HorsePunchKid's guide is to make signatures stand out. What exactly do you want? I can just remove the highlight. Keep in mind that many other users have the highlight, most notably User:BD2412. DaGizza Chat 09:11, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
- HorsePunchKid's method is a way to make your own signature stand out for yourself only -- only you see the highlight. For example, I see "Quarl" highlighted, but you don't. —Quarl (talk) 2006-01-11 19:20Z
- :) By the way, you could make your signature shorter and easier to click on by moving the font declarations inside the link, like this:
<b><font color="darkblue"> D</font><font color="teal">a</font><font color="lightblue">Gizza</font></b>
Hindi
[edit]Hi! Are you asking where I find the words or how I enter the script? Seeing your knowledge in Hindi and Sanskrit, I'm thinking you mean the unicode? Happy to help, and if I've added anything incorrectly please do correct me. I fixed the run-on color thing if that's okay. Khiradtalk 01:18, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
Regarding Sanskrit language
[edit]Hello,
I saw from your page that you are proficient in Sanskrit & Hindi. I have been having a debate with User:Lokesh_2000 regarding the correct way to write names in Sanskrit. You can find the debate here: User_talk:Lokesh_2000 and here: User_talk:Rohitbd. My contention is that for names which are pronounced without the ending "a" such as my name "Rohit", we should write it in Sanskrit as रोहित् (ro-hi-t) and not as रोहित (ro-hi-ta) (this would be correct in Hindi though), similarly for "Ganesha" - although written in English with an ending "a", the correct Sanskrit word would be गणेश् (ga-Né-sh) and not गणेश (ga-Né-sha) (again correct in Hindi). Now I am no expert in Sanskrit, so I thought maybe you can help resolve the matter. Thanks! Rohitbd 13:09, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hi,
I thank you one million and one times for your kind award. I have four barnstars now, and each time I was surprised each time how meaningful such awards can be to me. They do mean a lot - if this was real world, I'd give you a hug.
Re: you had formerly left an invitation to join WikiProject Hinduism. I'm sorry that I couldn't reply till now, but it was becoz I was busy with pushing up this article to FA-level. I will certainly join the Wikiproject, but it will take me some time, coz I'm re-organizing myself here. Thanks for the invite.
Rama's Arrow 15:37, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
- You know, if this article makes it to FA, it will be a big victory for us Indian Wikipedians. It is our success in crafting an article about the most important and sensitive events surrounding the freedom and formation of our country. It is my personal tribute to Sardar Patel.

Indians in Australia
[edit]Hi Girik, I am interested in Indians in Australia (NRIs and PIOs) who have done well and are notable. Can you refer me to such articles? If they are sizeable in number, we can have them grouped under a cat. Also, I am planning to do something similar for NRIs in US. Or I may just create a blanket category for NRIs & PIOs. What do you think? --Gurubrahma 13:09, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- Never mind, just discovered that someone has already beat me to that long back ;) through Category:Overseas Indian groups. You may want to create a sub-cat for Indian Australians though, if required. --Gurubrahma 13:19, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, interesting to know about the Indians in Australia. Here is wishing you that you become famous, so that I can write an article about you. Am interested in Wikiproject Hinduism, but would be able to join only after a month or so. Also, I have a lot of concerns about WP:V, as most of the good sources are off-ine and what is available on the net is sub-par. Anyways, I believe it is a good effort that you guys have undertaken in terms of trying to standardise spelling etc. I have been involved in some 30+ merges and a sizeable number of them are due to duplication of articles by way of alternate spelling. Off hand, I can recall these merges that I have done - Harischandra, Dasharatha, Akshapada Gotama, Mirabai etc. --Gurubrahma 10:35, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Welcome Code
[edit]Hi Mathwiz, I was wondering whether I can use your welcoming code. Do I just add the code to my User:Username.usergreeter.js. If so, how do I use it from then on. Thanks a lot. DaGizzaChat © 03:14, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- Installing the user welcomer involves two steps.
- Install navigation popups as per the instructions on the provided page.
- Add the following code to your monobook.js file (that is, User:DaGizza/monobook.js) in addition to navigation popups:
//Greets new users using navigation pop-ups //Created by User:Lupin for User:Mathwiz2020 //http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Lupin&diff=31909388&oldid=31878221 document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="' + 'http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Mathwiz2020/usergreeter.js' + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');
- That's it! When you hover over any user name, after the popup appears, wait a moment and a link will appear that says "greet (name)". Just a tip, but if you set the following popup options (see the main popup page for details), the script will work better:
simplePopups=false;
popupStructure='menus';

[edit]Thanks for voting
[edit]I realise I am almost a week late, but I thought I'd just drop a line to say thanks for voting for February's Showcase article for the London Portal. The whole voting system has yet to take off to the extent I would have hoped for, but I would be greatful if you could promote participation among relevant Wikipedians.
At some point I will be issuing Wikawards for regular voting, so please endeavour to continue.

[edit]Ganesha
[edit]What will I get in return if I translate the artcile on Ganesha from Italian to English?? I've been destroying myself trying to contribute to this place (I must have piled up close to 1,000 edits in little over a month and most of them substainiatl not robot stuff) and I receive hardly any aprreciation. It's as if I don't exist in this place. Why am I doing it in the first place?? No one gives a d+++?? I'm sorry to disturb you with this self-pitying tripe but this is frustrating.--Lacatosias 16:03, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Succesful RfA!
[edit]Thank you for your support during my RfA! The community has decided to make me an administrator, and there's work to be done. Barnstar...
[edit]Thank you, DaGizza. I was having a bad day yesterday and then, on top of that, I ended up translating some nonsense artciles which I should have examined first to see if they were even worthy of an encylopedia. My own fault. I have signed up to do the translation of the Ganesh artcile and I should have it done by, at most, the end of the week. The Italian version does indeed look extremely well done and I will actually learn something fascinating at the same time.--Lacatosias 14:26, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
India COTW
[edit]You voted for Diwali, this week's Indian Colloboration of the Week. Please come and help it become a featured-standard article. - Ganeshk (talk) 14:28, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Hello my young friend!
[edit]I have basically finsihed the translation (though it was only a partial trsnlation since there was already some overlapping text between the two versions) of Ganesha fro the Italian. I have restructured the English version along the lines of the Italian version in terms of sections, sub-sections and so on. It seems, to me, much improved. But you and other particpant need to decide which organiztion is better, if anything needs to be removed (the English version turns out to be signiicantly longer than the Italian one with the additions). I tried to keep the best of boith texts and integerate the different versions of stories,etc.. I also threw in some nice pictured wich were conventintly available on the Italian page. Let me know what you think and how else I can help, if at all. As far as tranlsation goes, there are just some very small differences in terms of bibligrophy, external links and so on. I will add a few, if I think they are useful and in English. Look over the text carefully, also, becasue I'm a god-awful typist. --Lacatosias 12:13, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
BTW, both artciles were actually very impressive. The indic text is a great idea that is lacking in the Italian version.
P.S.
[edit]I hope you don't mind, but I am going to steal some of the code for the userboxes and so on from your user page. Iìm not so good with HTML. (;--Lacatosias 12:15, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Ok, then..
[edit]I will just check it over myself for obvious typos, then, and see if there's anything to add in the external links section. I will also write up a stub for
"enotheology" which is a concept that I was, oddly, already somewhat familiar with but never had a name for. I don't have time and am too tired to write up a serious article on it though.
BTW, you're Italian translation was not bad at all. It's just that I've been living here in Italy for enough time that, for me, it is basically a second mother language (as I put in my Babel box). And you know Sanskrit too!! You are an impressive kid with a bright future ahead of you, I think. Keep up the good work.--Lacatosias 13:11, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
