No worries
[edit]You're not being a pest, I'm being flaky. I have this whole art installation project this week that is taking up most of my free time. I'm hoping to upload some more pictures over the weekend, if I can get internet service where I'm going to be.Dina 14:25, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Lookity lookity
[edit]Wow! love their alphabet - not sure I've seen that before. Sorry I haven't replied to your kind messages, I've been busy reading pages of Giano's RfAR and uploading images from Barcelona. I went mad and took over 350 - a choice selection is being uploaded to User:Mcginnly/Sandbox/Barcelona Images, but it's taking ages. Barcelona is fantastic - for a 150 odd years the RIBA have awarded their gold medal to architects, archaeologists, historians etc. Only once was it awarded to a place - Barcelona. So much to see, feet had proper blister on them. I'm going to write up some of Igualada pretty soon.
Regarding the SI and SA template, I once tried to change the colours and design of the "architecture" template - it got reverted and a policy was quoted that they've all got to look pretty similar - I assume the SI and SA templates come under the same rule. We could change the image though, I'm not sure the spiral stair would be recognisable enough at that small size - I'll have a think, actually I've always really liked that Notre Dame du Haute image
failing that I took this in barcelona which I'm rather proud of
. Kind regards --Mcginnly | Natter 23:39, 5 October 2006 (UTC) Just found this one too which looks pretty good small.
--Mcginnly | Natter 14:13, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Use {{subst:nsd}} rather than {{nosource}} directly, as nsd when its substituted adds in {{nosource}} but with date parameters. Kevin_b_er 06:59, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry I didn't reply before. Queens picture I tagged. The fair use image, sadly, probably needs a source too. Though the image is so old, makes me feel like a ass sometimes to want to tag them. The big issue is the source for fair image means we know who holds the copyright. Else there's no proof its a promo image, for example. Kevin_b_er 23:50, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah. Recommended usage is {{subst:image source|Image:No source}} ~~~~. There's also {{subst:nld}} for a lack of copyright tagging, and {{subst:nrd}} (not {{nfd}}, that's a redirect to {{mfd1}}) for lack of fair use rationale. People seem to use nrd on any fair use image, though currently WP:CSD says that speedy is only valid on {{fairuse}} and {{Non-free fair use in}}, so its exact use is a little ambigious. The other two tag's user notification templates are shown in the tags for delayed deletion. Kevin_b_er 01:22, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Your edit to User:Tuxide
[edit]Thanks for reverting my user page! Looks like I missed out quite a lot of fun on User talk:169.232.125.245. Happy editing to you! Regards, Tuxide 04:56, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the revert on my page, too. I was keeping an eye on that guy when my internet failed on me. By the time I came back, he'd already gotten himself blocked... Anyway, thanks again. Heimstern Läufer 05:07, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Door and window
[edit]Yeah I like that idea - I'm sure I read somewhere that the bronze/brass doors of the Pantheon are original and the oldest, still used doors in history - but then memory never was my strong suit - I'll do some digging. Mcginnly | Natter 21:59, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Well this (non-citable) source agrees with me at least [1] and says they're bronze, and here's a picture of them [2] - maybe there's something at the commons. Mcginnly | Natter 22:05, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
What about if I cropped this one to just show the door:- Mcginnly | Natter 22:38, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
One of the things I asked when I wrote to the museum is for their rationale for designating the image as public domain. So we'll see what they have to say, I guess. As for Image:Nordhausen camp.JPG, the disclaimer that links from the image page concerns me a little. An excerpt from the FAQ reads:
3. May I put images or text from this Web site on a CD-ROM or general access Web site?
No, unless permission has been obtained in advance from the Museum. The permission of a third party may also be required.

Password reset messages
[edit]Hello. I issued a warning about a week ago to User:24.52.112.234, and I noticed that you have recently as well. Since that warning was issued, I have received a number of emails from wiki@wikimedia.org saying "Someone (probably you, from IP address 24.52.112.234) requested that we send you a new Wikipedia login password for en.wikipedia.org." As an admin, is there anything that you can do about this, or should I just ignore it? --After Midnight 0001 19:53, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know what I could do about this. Maybe try a post at WP:AN or WP:VP? DVD+ R/W 19:58, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I found a similar thread on AN/I and another in its archive. I think I should just ignore it unless it persists. --After Midnight 0001 21:46, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Mini talk page template
[edit]Have you seen this? Wikipedia:Mini Talkpage Template - maybe we should wait until it's resolved before picking an image/restructuring the template - to avoid abortive work. --Mcginnly | Natter 00:04, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
- New policy proposals have a way of often, ... languishing. Who knows what will happen with this one. As far as I can tell it just means that templates would be smaller on controversial and highly discussed pages. I don't think this is relevant to many architecture articles. They are rarely talked about much :-( And for the often discussed ones, I don't think talk page templates are a big deal in terms of space and such. Maybe they are just trying to minimize the impact of rejection ones, like the example cited. Who knows, DVD+ R/W 00:42, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Hey Dave!
[edit]I've never been sure about the relationship between the etomology of brat and брат. There's also брать (the infinitive of "to take") -- I found it all useful trying to remember those words however. Flickr is a good place to stick photos, and I've used it for a variety of things -- when I was putting my art up for this installation thing I was able to just include a jpeg or two and then refer the panel to flickr, which seemed more user friendly. The installation went pretty well, it felt very last minute, etc. but I just got an email from someone wanting to buy something which I was not expecting and now need to sit down and think about a bit. I don't mind selling them, but its awfully hard to name a price -- I don't want to undersell them, but I also don't want to pretend I'm something I'm not. A fun condnundrum however. Did you look at my moscow photos? Some of the best pics, I'm afraid, could never illustrate any article that I could think of. Dina 00:22, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
A question
[edit][copied]
Hey Joe, I'm going through Public Domain photos of buildings from a government site HABS, and considering some things in Seattle I might want to write articles for or add images or info to. What do you think would be a good name for an article about the Federal Courthouse on 5th as seen here [3]?
Would it be U.S. Courthouse (Seattle), Federal Courthouse (Seattle) ,or King County Federal Building or something else? Or is there already an article about this place that I can't find? Thanks and regards, DVD+ R/W 05:22, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- I would imagine that it should now be referred to as the Old Federal Courthouse (Seattle), because there is a new one on Stewart between 7th and 8th. - Jmabel | Talk 05:28, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
[end copied]
Don't forget to put the photos on Commons, not "en", because (1) commons has a much more appropriate category system for images and (2) all the foreign-language Wikipedias get to access them. - Jmabel | Talk 05:42, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
regional arch and modernarch
[edit]On the talk pages of these two templates - I've suggested a reformat to make the templates a full page width - they're just too difficult to work with when you're also trying to put images into the article. What do you think? - if nothing else I've added to both the regional architecture and modern architecture lists - the new entries will just need copying over.--Mcginnly | Natter 20:35, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'd go with a horizontal format for both. DVD+ R/W 20:45, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Do we need wider consensus for this or shall we be bold? I'll post it on the project notice board --Mcginnly | Natter 09:06, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Hello Mate
[edit]Hello
Hello mate. I heard that you are one of the top 5 admin's on here. What 7 things should I read before I start to edit. Thanks alot m8
- What! top 5 - your crown must be slipping DVD - your in my top 3 anyway...... :-P Mcginnly | Natter 00:06, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
I am a law student, I am fluent in Russian, and I can try and help you navigate. I know zero copyright law, but I can read these cases etc. I only need to understand your role as to this template, and what specifically your question is. My job after law school will be in capital markets, so there's approx. zero overlaw with Russian copyright law there. Be more specific and I can help you answer your question. - CrazyRussian talk/email 01:38, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- So you want me to give a hechsher for this template? That's a serious undertaking I may not be able to complete. I'll take a look - but not tonight. Why don't you ask the real Russian editors at the Russian noticeboard here - CrazyRussian talk/email 01:59, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Portal:Architecture
[edit](cross posted from dogears page - he'd asked if I'd rotate the Portal every third week - which I'd previously offered to do) Hi there Dogears - sorry I haven't replied in so long - I've been considering the 3 week rotation proposal - normally I'd just say "of course" but what was concerning me is that I spend quite a bit of time updating the portal and wikiproject with all the WP:FAC WP:FPC WP:PR WP:GA WP:FA bits and it eats into my time quite a bit. The FAC, PR and FPC needs to be looked at every other day (that said I've been pretty slack on it since getting back from barcelona) so my proposal is:- perhaps you guys would consider lending a hand keeping those bits up to date and I'll rotate on the 3rd week. How does that sound? --Mcginnly | Natter 13:29, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi - I've posted an attempt at a reply to your question on my talk page. Sandstein 18:07, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for that quickie reversion! :) Sarah Ewart (Talk) 04:33, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]For the revert! Dina 18:49, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the offer, but nah, the really vicious one (with two IP's) just got blocked anyway. Vandalism on my userpage doesn't really bother me. (and occasionally entertains me ) Dina 19:01, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Complex vandalism
[edit]I have filed a complaint under complex vandalism. I would not bother you with it now, but the user is moving very rapidly, and I would ask that I could get an administrator's help ASAP. [Wikipedia:Requests_for_investigation|Link]. Thanks. -Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 20:58, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
DYK and thanks
[edit]Hi DVD. Thanks for the vandal revert and block last week. As for the DYK, I've fixed the error I made. Yeah, it seems as though that could be manned a bit more, because it seems that most of the DYK enthusiast admins are on breaks on weekends and it got baklogged again. As for the images...I think we should go on strike User:Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 01:40, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Taichung City
[edit]I am new on WikiProject Cities. I have added considerable content to the first city I am working on, which happens to be the city of my residence, Taichung City. Would you mind taking a few minutes to look it over and leave comments on how you think I can make it better to bring it up to WikiProject Cities standards in a section of the discussion page for the city’s article page that I have set up.
Thank you. Ludahai 03:54, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Re: Images
[edit]Thanks for your kind words. I retagged three images from the category as fairuse. I have no problem if others are deleted. We have free replacements in most cases. --Ghirla -трёп- 06:31, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

A few things
[edit]Hey Joe, thanks for looking into those Chernikhov images, the guy who uploaded them and wrote a really great article with them constructivist architecture doesn't seem to be around anymore. Your reasoning makes sense to me should we add the template you suggested? Also do you have any more photos of the EMP like this Image:Sky Church 1.jpg? And finally, are you going to Portland and could you point me to a page with the info about it? Regards, DVD+ R/W 23:10, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sadly, I can't do Portland; it's mid-week, and I really can't skip work to do this.
- Chernikhov: the question on the hammer & sickle one is whether it was published in his lifetime or later. I'd imagine it was published in his lifetime, but the information wasn't there on the image page.
- EMP: I don't think I have anything else comparably good from EMP. There is commons:Image:EMP function room.JPG, which looks good at small scale, but it was a slow shutter speed & everybody was moving, so it doesn't look good big.

Muchas gracias
[edit]Hey David, thanks a lot for supporting me in my recent RfA. It succeeded, and I am very grateful to all of you. If you ever need help with anything, please don't hesitate to ask. Also, feel free point out any mistakes I make! Thanks again, —Khoikhoi 04:33, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Current bits and bobs
[edit]Looks like I missed the rotation again - to eradicate future confusion - I've made a roster - User:Mcginnly/Sandbox/Portal rotation roster. Hope this is ok. I've made some changes to the Kunsthaus graz article (and some notes on the talk page). Take care. --Mcginnly | Natter 15:06, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
