No Spamming, No Swearing, No Vandalism. I'm open for discussion about any of my posts. If anyone has any ideas for the Durham, Ontario article, that would be greatly appreciated. I am picking up a history book about Durham the next time I go home and plan to expand the article to hopefully an ever-impressing size. DMighton 06:23, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mann Cup

[edit]

Hi Devan, I just noticed your recent changes to the Mann Cup page. I'm with the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame (person responsable for acquisitions and archives) and I'm trying to ascertain what happened in 1916 and 1917 for the champion. There was no lacrosse played on the West Coast that season, so the cup wasn't put up for challenges - however, at this point I'm unsure whether New Westminster could still claim titles for 1916 and 1917. At some point this week, I will go and check the actual Mann Cup in the hall (the original cup, not the replica that's handed out to the teams) and see if there is any reference to 1916 and 1917. Depending on what the trophy says, I may edit those two years. User:Davidjsc

That would be great!... I've been trying to improve the Mann, Minto, Presidents', and Founders Cup articles as best I can... but coverage is always so inconsistent. Any chance you could take a picture of the original Mann Cup and post it on the article? You have to take it though, stock photos owned by the CLA will get deleted by the anti-copyright guys on here. DMighton (talk) 21:24, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I might have one I took at last year's CLHOF induction dinner that might be decent enough to work. I'll check tonight. But otherwise, the cup is stored behind alarmed glass and photos of it usually have a lot of glass glare.User:Davidjsc —Preceding undated comment added 21:31, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Send me an e-mail address to davidjsc @ gmail.com and I'll forward you a PDF of all my lacrosse research. It will contain all the Mann, Minto, and Presidents Cup champions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidjsc (talkcontribs) 21:35, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ice hockey in Colombia?

[edit]

Hello, DMighton. Have you heard of ice hockey in Colombia? Here's a hint: Colombia made its ice hockey debut on March 2, 2014. Colombia participate in the First Pan American Tournament in Mexico City. Colombia played their first international game against Argentina, which they won 11-1. Hockeytown Winter Festival CHL Attendance Record

[edit]

Hello DMighton. I would just like to let you know that I updated the teams in the attendance record you put on there. The CHL single game attendance record was between the London Knights and the Plymouth Whalers. Not the Saginaw Spirit. Saginaw played Windsor. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.165.181.130 (talk) 07:02, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Gloucester Rangers

[edit]

Hi Devon,

Being new to Wikipedia, I appreciate any cleanup you are doing for slight mishaps I have done on the Rangers page, but I have been doing some painstaking research the last several weeks to dig up the team's historical background, reading through hundreds of archived newspapers. The current page has no citations at all, my aim is to change it to a more readily reliable source of material with detailed accounts of it's history. If I am adding something to the page it is because it was documented and factual. I currently work with the Gloucester Rangers and found that this page is not accurate at all and needed to be corrected. Again, I sincerely appreciate any assistance where I do have errors in adding something to the page itself, but all information that will be added will be facts. Thanks you for understanding. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rangersjra (talkcontribs) 19:07, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

July 2014

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did to Pacific Junior Hockey League, without verifying it by citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Please do not restore uncited material without providing in-line RS cites -- see wp:BURDEN. Epeefleche (talk) 19:37, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I fully believe blanking isn't the key to the PJHL article issue... or anything... please Assume Good Faith in the future. DMighton (talk) 19:48, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I assume good faith on your part. Just that you were unaware of the guideline I have now quoted to you. Which I assume you are now aware of, and as a sign of your good faith you will abide by. Feel free to restore any deleted material -- as you did -- but only if you supply inline RS refs of the sort indicated by wp:burden. I, for my part, fully believe that the addition of unsourced material to wp, and then it's restoration without RS cites that accord with wp:burden, is not the key to the proper building of the page. --Epeefleche (talk) 19:58, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I believe section blanking was overkill considering the tools at our disposal on wikipedia. As I am not an expert on the league in question -- I requested a rewrite, from the user in question, with sources. DMighton (talk) 20:14, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's not overkill -- rather, restoration without the inline RS citations required by wp:burden is a violation of wp:v. I'm happy for restoration with the required citations to be made. But wp isn't -- or shouldn't be -- a dumping ground where wholly unsourced information can be embedded in the project, and then editors can argue for the retention of such unsupported information on the basis of their personal view that its removal is "overkill". That's especially the case where, as here, the unsupported material has continued to reside in the article, without improvement, since May, when the article was tagged: "This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (May 2014)". That's fine for blogs, but not for the project. Port Moody Panthers

[edit]

Hi Devon,

I tried uploading the new Port Moody Panthers logo as the one on their Wiki page right now hasn't been used by the team in over two seasons. I think I didn't upload the new logo properly to Wikimedia Commons as it's now a candidate for speedy deletion. Are you able to help?

Thanks, Brian Brian Wiebe (talk) 05:59, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would just forget about the one on Commons... it will be deleted irregardless... you need to go to this link: [1] and re-upload the image onto Wikipedia instead of commons... for the Summary you could probably just cut and paste the summary of the old logo that is currently on the article... and for Licensing, scroll through the options until you find "Logo" (it is in the non-free/fair use section of the licensing options)... that should fix the situation. DMighton (talk) 06:48, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I can't upload to Wikipedia because I don't have a confirmed account. Brian Wiebe (talk) 21:30, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seasons Tables

[edit]

Ahoy Dmighton !

I slowly started adding the shootout columns to the CCHL seasons records tables while working in my own user pages, I will update them on their respective pages once I have them all done. Just wanted to let you know so you don't do any of the work on that, considering how painstaking it is at first, not so bad after you got a blank one done. Do you have any other leagues that you are working on that have teams in need of a shootout column in their tables? I could probably get those done for you since I have this on the go when I get tired of reading LOL. --Slave1 (talk) 21:11, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

oh and I found this pretty cool lacrosse article I thought you might enjoy http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2194&dat=19530428&id=aNowAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Wd8FAAAAIBAJ&pg=7070,6392381 --Slave1 (talk) 22:27, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly do you mean by a shootout column? Can you provide an example for me to look at? Very neat article... I know someone who would be very interested in that. DMighton (talk) 23:10, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Glad the article will be of use
Here is the link for the final standing of last year's CCHL, notice they have a shootout loss column (SOL) http://cchlsitehockey_stats.stats.pointstreak.com/standings.html?leagueid=349&seasonid=11098
Here is a link to the first table I updated, I was also dabbling with the idea of using colour backgrounds in the table where the records didn't apply to the CCHL directly and was going to ask what you thought of that, so since you are looking, you can give me an opinion, I also found the columns a little tight so I added a hyphen on either side up in the title area to space everything out a bit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Slave28/_Pembroke_Lumber_Kings/doc#Season_by_season_record
I have all the other tables done I just need to input the information now, just copy and pasting.--Slave1 (talk) 08:50, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Check out my changes... DMighton (talk) 02:28, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now I see why you've been so quiet, hard at work, and may I say, quite the ... shifty ... little one are you, pun intended, LOL. Nice slick move there adding that new header near the bottom and simply shifting the columns since the ties were eliminated. Bravo! Yes, I think this is definitely the way to go. I need to change that tan colour though in the few top rows (my original doing) it's just not working for me anymore, should we go white, maybe alternate team colours when a team switches leagues, use grey when dormant? --Slave1 (talk) 08:51, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed my own colour issues, should be good, let me know what you think. --Slave1 (talk) 09:09, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I basically finished the new season page for the upcoming CCHL season, can you look it over for errors. 2am and need sleep, will finish the overtime changes tomorrow but other then that done changing anything else I wanted to adjust.

Is there a way to add a black border around the infobox like the other tables have or does that require creating a new infobox? Just seems out of place to see one box with no border. --Slave1 (talk) 14:43, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know there is no way... other than building a new infobox... but the one that is in use is good and making a new one for each league defeats the purpose of infoboxes. It looks fine, trust me. DMighton (talk) 00:35, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

-was just curious, the one there is sufficient--Slave1 (talk) 02:20, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

PS... I would add sources to the playoff changes. DMighton (talk) 00:36, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The current OT format has only been passed around internally as far as I know, not sure it is posted anywhere as of yet, will keep an eye open for it though. All pre-season games have used the 3 on 3 for 5 minutes as a test, with the exception of the first game where the official never got the memo. There may be some form of announcement at the showcase this weekend. Should I take the rule change down? --Slave1 (talk) 02:20, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nope.... just increases the amount of sources on the article.. .that's all... when it is announced... try to get it sourced from a newspaper instead of the league site... DMighton (talk) 02:46, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok will do! And I just caught wind there might be a change in the playoff format too, with 7-10 playing a 3 game mini best of for the last 2 spots but I need to find out more about this. --Slave1 (talk) 04:44, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

-added most stats from tonight's game, seems there was an issue with the pointstreak guy, he entered the shootout as penalty shots which threw the goalie stats out of whack and caused the game to end in OT as opposed to a shootout, and last I checked, each goals in a shootout weren't tallied against were they not? --Slave1 (talk) 02:08, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

problem solved, it was an input error, stats have been adjusted on league site so I will fix them the rest of the weekend games are done, how often do you update? daily? --Slave1 (talk) 16:20, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I update scores standings daily... but if you taking over... you can do it however you want! DMighton (talk) 19:31, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll wait until the opening showcase is over and update the whole stats, how do you make the page go live after that, just drop the user extension? You should probably keep an eye on once in awhile so I don't mess up somewhere, although it does seem pretty straight forward. I'll tag it every day. Thanks --Slave1 (talk) 23:45, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'd just copy and paste it to: 2014–15 CCHL season. Also, create 2014-15 CCHL season as a redirect to the aforementioned page... people have a problem with using dashed and endashes. Anytime.... even now if you want... don't worry... I'll check in. DMighton (talk) 23:53, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Attribution

[edit]

Hi! It looks as if you created 2014–15 OJHL season by copying content from somewhere else in Wikipedia. That was picked up by the bot, and the article is now listed at WP:SCV. Re-using Wikipedia content is OK as you know, as long as attribution is made for the work of the editors who created the source content. You don't seem to have provided attribution in this case. Could I ask you to go ahead and do that (I'd like to cross this one off the list)? If you're not sure how to do it, let me know (here would be fine). Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:56, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(moved here from my talk) You've contacted me over 2014–15 OJHL season... so I assume I will soon hear about 2014–15 SIJHL season, 2014–15 NOJHL season, and 2014–15 GMHL season... I am the primary contributor to the content of these articles and have been doing it for a long time... I use the same basic layout every year which I am still the primary creator of... then I expand from it as the season unfurls... I've never had to attribute anything to myself before... it seems superfluous... what to do? DMighton (talk) 22:49, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I just saw that one page listed at WP:SCV. If you are confident that the content you've re-used was originally written by you alone, then there's no real problem and no obligation to provide attribution. In general, attribution can easily be made when you start a new page by putting the title of the source article in your edit summary; otherwise, it can be done after the event using a template such as copied. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:02, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I am responsible for the content. I've just been doing it for so long that it is mirrored all over the net (which a bot bothered me about)... and there multiple similar articles from different seasons... which obviously flagged the bot you deal with. DMighton (talk) 23:06, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Yes, it's the mirrors that trigger the bot. Including the name of the source article in the edit summary when you re-use content won't stop that happening, I'm afraid; but it would make it quicker and easier for those who follow up on the bot to check off, so to that extent would be helpful. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:17, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okey doke... I'll keep that in mind for next season I guess lol. DMighton (talk) 23:03, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RE: 2014 WJAC & SJHL

[edit]

Based on the reference I found on the Swiss Federation for 2014 World Junior A Challenge rosters, it would appear they sent their U17/U18 team, so my guess is some combined effort. As far as the Danes go, this is in fact their U20 team, they are using this tournament (and an August tour of exhibition games against AJHL teams) as a tune up for the World Juniors in Montreal/Toronto. I used the ihj/ihj-rt templates only for ease of creating the article and it was the easiest way to allow the template to work. If we have a similar template for U18 teams, I would be all for switching Russia and Switzerland to those.

As far as Canada, I have not seen anything that calls this anything but Canada East and Canada West, which I would take to mean Hockey Canada is viewing these as a form of the national junior team, even if they are built solely from the CJHL. USA Hockey has varied in their usage, at times simply calling it Team USA and other times calling it Team USA Selects. The USHL has referred to it as the USHL Selects team. So I am not sure what to categorize this as. In the case of reality, yes you and I both know that these are not technically the national junior teams, as they play out in the World Juniors.

As far as the SJHL goes, I would definitely be able to help out where I can. I will admit, I am not hugely an SJHL follower. I've become interested in Junior A hockey, as I follow my local team, the AJHL's Lloydminster Bobcats. The pages for tournaments I create and update, tend to be the tournaments that happen near my area. So Kindersley, Saskatchewan is in my area (although not as close as I thought), as are tournaments in Edmonton and Saskatoon. My next big hockey project is to try and come up with something for the World Sledge Hockey Challenge as the 2015 tournament is in Leduc, Alberta and I hope to be able attend some games and build a tournament page for it as well. Ice Hockey Wikia - Request to Remove Editing Block

[edit]

Devan,

Like you, I do editing both on Wikipedia and on Ice Hockey Wiki at Wikia.com, as well. I operate under the alias "Wcreed88" on Wikipedia and under the IP address 69.-6.-0-.36 on Ice Hockey Wiki. The reason that I am messaging you on Wikipedia as opposed to Wikia is because I am currently not allowed to message you on Wikia and saw the link to your Wikipedia profile on your Wikia profile.

While trying to make an edit this morning to an Ice Hockey Wiki page "Chris Kravchuk", I saw that I have been blocked from doing so per an order by you because I have been removing content from pages for players who have played for the Missouri Mavericks. Though I was not aware that I was violating a policy, I acknowledge that I have done that in the past and had the pages instead re-direct to the Missouri Mavericks Ice Hockey Wiki page to subsequently direct viewers to the players' respective Wikipedia pages, because I felt that individuals should have all of their information consolidated on one English-language Wiki-centric page.

In light of realizing that is not allowed, which I am very sorry about, I will stop doing so and instead update the content on both the players' Wikipedia page and Wikia page. Given that I will abide by Wikia.com's policies in the future to not remove content from Wikia.com pages, could you please consider removing the editing block for my IP address 69.-6.-0-.36 on Ice Hockey Wiki? If you would please consider this request and let me know of your decision, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration. Sorry again for violating the policy.

Have a great New Year,

Wcreed88 (talk) (Wikia.com profile)

The purpose of the block was just to get your attention... Anon/IP users are not easy or fun to manage... consider making an account with us... in that case I just would have wrote on your talk page... we do appreciate your contributions, but like I said... IP's suck to deal with.
Basically, when a player ends their career with Missouri... that isn't the end of their careers... you would be further off to update the pages of former players to better keep track of their current whereabouts... each player has a story... it would be nice if we could tell all of them... including Semi-Pro guys... we limit the chance of that by doing redirects or deletions... since all of hockey is our scope, we are much more inclusive to the bios of most players than Wikipedia here...
I'll rectify the block ASAP... Great New Year to you too! DMighton (talk) 20:39, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Shelburne HTI Stars

[edit]

Not sure about your logic for not including "HTI" in the team name. The HTI people are the team owners of the Shelburne Stars so if they name the team Shelburne GTI Stars, that is the team name as far as I'm concerned. Maybe a Wikipedia editor could help with this question. We have many similar interests and contribute to similar articles so I do not want an "edit-war" or anything! TheScottDL (talk) 00:55, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We avoid the use of the chief sponsor's name in the name of the team. We are not here to advertise for them. If the sponsor name was the actual moniker of the team, then we make an exception because there is no alternative... like if they were to call the team the "Shelburne HTI's"... we would have no option... this scenario has popped up. An example similar to here would be the Pictou County Crushers... for years we called them the Weeks Crushers because we thought that was where they were from, but the moment we found out Weeks was the sponsor name it had to be dropped... RB Canadiens vs. Canadians

[edit]

Shouldn't the page be called Rayside-Balfour Canadians as it is in Ontario (and that was the name of the old team as well). The old redirect only has a couple of links to it and could be deleted and then moved but I will leave that up to you as seem track the NOJHL far more than I. Yosemiter (talk) 15:17, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A Canadien is any French Canadian... not just a Quebecer... Many towns in Eastern, Northeastern, and Southwestern Ontario have French roots and sometimes that leads to local hockey teams known as the Canadiens (ie. Lakeshore Canadiens)... I have seen their jerseys through their twitter feed... they seem to be going with "-ien"... and before the old Sabrecats were the Canadians... the team was known as the "Chelmsford Canadiens"... that entire area has a large number of French-speakers... it is not shocking. DMighton (talk) 19:53, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Here is a link if you want to see one of the jerseys... [2]]. DMighton (talk) 20:00, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I shouldn't just assume something, I suppose I was mostly basing it one the former team. But the actual reason I brought it up was from here and here they seem to be using the -ian. Yosemiter (talk) 20:07, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
LOL... I just saw a Canoe Sports article with it -ien... I got a feeling they may have changed their minds... we'll see soon... I'll contact a buddy in the league's staff and get confirmation which way they are going with it. DMighton (talk) 20:25, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just talked to the league's stats guy... He wasn't sure either but knows the owner... Owner confirms "Canadians" will be the final name so we will have to move the article I guess! DMighton (talk) 00:41, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Brian Howes

[edit]

The article Brian Howes has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced, so may fail WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Name change of Gander Flyers

[edit]

Hi: You removed 'Kelly Ford' from Gander Flyers on the Central West Senior Hockey League page stating there must be no team sponsors but in this case they officially changed the name of their team as of October 3 ,2014. http://www.ganderbeacon.ca/Sports/2014-10-08/article-3897017/New-name-for-senior-hockey-team/1 .

I'm just wondering how is it different from current wikipedia pages for the Air Canada Centre or The Bell Centre where those companies have naming rights? thanks Sherwood5030

Hi, first, teams are not the same is buildings... second, sponsorships are a dime-a-dozen and come and go... The team is still the Gander Flyers... they just now happen to be sponsored by a car dealership. We aren't here to do the advertising for the teams... if the team picks up a new sponsor, they can advertise them on their own website. If the team actually dropped the "Flyers" moniker and became the Gander Kelly Fords... that is a different thing... that is the actual team moniker... calling them the Gander "Kelly Ford" Flyers is just a promotional gimmick... we don't do that on are articles where there is no need to. DMighton (talk) 22:26, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
sorry, I don't agree, it's not just another regular sponsor, if accuracy is the goal on wikipedia, then when a name is changed officially, and demonstrated in every way possible with the league and the hockey community, then its a long term until its officially changed back. It's technically incorrect to call them just the Gander Flyers anymore until the name is changed back, it's in the article. I spend alot of time striving for accuracy for current team and league names. I hope we can agree on that. thks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sherwood5030 (talkcontribs) 22:44, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is a regular sponsor, this happens all the time. You need to look at the articles for the Pictou County Crushers and the Bridgewater Lumberjacks. We title the article as TOWN then MONIKER, then in the lead of the article we mention the sponsor name if applicable and is commonly mentioned with the moniker. We don't plug for sponsors, it isn't what Wikipedia is for. DMighton (talk) 23:49, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
ok, that makes total sense, I viewed the Pictou County Crushers page, it's well-written, I'll use it as a great guideline. thanks very much for your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sherwood5030 (talkcontribs) 12:11, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
All good, I see you are looking for some old stats too... here is the NLSHL seasons [3] ... and most of Gander's time in the CNHL [4]. DMighton (talk) 14:43, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hockey on the ice listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Hockey on the ice. Please participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. . Right now this links to bandy, which is quite ridiculous if you ask me. Hockey on ice is ice hockey, and the redirect should justifiably go to that page. Help me!

[edit]

Hello, I uploaded the image File:Buckland Cup.png a few years ago. It was tagged for deletion recently with a need for permission from the original photo owner to be sent to the OTRS. I contacted him, he sent the form letter to OTRS, in which he cc'd me... and yet the file was deleted about 3 days later.

Please help me with...

DMighton (talk) 05:52, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It doesn't look like Buckland Cup.png ever existed. Could you mean File:Buckland Cup.JPG, by chance? If so, this probably happened because the OTRS ticket was not processed within the standard delay for deletion, due to a backlog. I would recommend posting on Wikipedia:OTRS noticeboard with a request that an OTRS volunteer locate the ticket and verify if it sufficiently verifies permissions. If they do so, they can request that the image be undeleted (or undelete it themselves if they happen to also be an admin). Cheers, Nick—Contact/Contribs 06:02, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

PJHL

[edit]

Please stop with the undo's. Each PJHL division has their own history and will continue to operate separately.

No Scott. They are merged, governed as a whole, and no longer are their own league. I will continue to revert. The former leagues are dead as per the OHA. DMighton (talk) 02:36, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, they are operating seperately. Read last reference! TheScottDL (talk) 02:39, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 • The are taking a multiple step process to rescind the autonomy of each league. "Though the formerly, eight separate leagues have undergone a rebranding by being housed under the Provincial Junior Hockey League umbrella and have been split into conferences and divisions – akin to the Junior B Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League – the league is still working out rules and nuances that come with being one big organization instead of separate bodies." DMighton (talk) 02:42, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I help the former Empire with media - each division is working SEPARATELY! All you are doing is erasing the links I made to the division pages... TheScottDL (talk) 02:44, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 • You have a conflict of interest and the OHA disagrees with you. It is the will of the OHA that this is one league. I will revert articles that go outside of that decision. The eight leagues are dead. DMighton (talk) 02:46, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not arguing that the eight "leagues" are dead! It is now eight divisions (with eight separate Wiki pages)! TheScottDL (talk) 02:52, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

One league, one article... just like the GOJHL. I usually give you the benefit of the doubt, but this is a bit ridiculous. The leagues will be under one name, one governing group, and one set of rules; where all teams can vote on all issues, even in other conferences and divisions... the walls have been torn down. Also, please read: WP:COI, I believe you are violating its tenants. DMighton (talk) 02:57, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Don't get too high and mighty ;) on me. I LINKED the old leagues to the new PJHL template - that is all. You undid that for no reason. BTW, you follow at least 13 team/league Twitter accounts that I work with. TheScottDL (talk) 03:16, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am aware that I follow a lot of them on twitter, I have come across many you are affiliated with. I try to stay in the loop. I de-linked them for a reason - they are defunct bodies and are best left as a footnote. There are other former leagues that I wanted to add to that category. Also, people need to be funneled back to the league page, by adding the links to the dead leagues you will confuse them... if there is a "defunct leagues" or "history" section, then people can research from there. You also changed the name of the Empire B article. This isn't kosher. We do not require a separate article for a single division of an existing league... maybe in the NHL... not Jr. C. The Empire B article needs to be reverted for historical purposes and cleaned up - not become deletionist bait. If the Empire wants you to clean up their page... help me fix up PJHL to better accommodate the Tod and all the divisions. We can easily turn it into a hub for information on the old leagues... we can make it way more useful and interactive than what we currently have and have the Tod Division part of it link back to its historical article. DMighton (talk) 03:37, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Waited for a response. I have moved the old league back to its traditional name. DMighton (talk) 05:51, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

any suggestions on how to correctly explain the Thorold Blackhawks situation in the GOJHL? Jru Gordon (talk) 19:55, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stick to newspaper sources, only official info. I think we all know that the ownership was just fire-selling players before they sold the team this summer and it backfired. Just reference what is in the news and OHA releases and it should be fine. DMighton (talk) 02:39, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
at least Buffalo gets to finish with at least 3 wins this year (legit win vs Pelham, 2 forfeits vs Thorold) Jru Gordon (talk) 15:30, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The GHC is in a sad state this season. DMighton (talk) 01:30, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
didn't they try to pull out of the GOJHL either this year or last year? But they still wanted to take part in the Sutherland Cup? Hopefully Caledonia either gets brought down to earth, or promoted to the OJHL so the GOJHL teams don't have to deal with them Jru Gordon (talk) 23:47, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

full face shields

[edit]

I'm guessing you've seen the ruling where ALL Jr leagues in the OHA (from the OJHL down) will have to wear full-cages starting in 17-18. Any opinion on this? Do you think this will eventually make it's way the OHL? Jru Gordon (talk) 23:00, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I hate that IT IS the right call. I prefer to see half shields, but there is really no reason for teenagers to be running around with half shields. Hockey people tend to find it hard to let go of tradition, so I expect some grumbling. In the OHL? Someday, but since the OHL is not a member of the OHA or Hockey Canada, they kinda do what they want. They miss have to feel it is a necessity before they do. DMighton (talk) 23:17, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I hate full face shields. I remember seeing videos and pictures of older OHL and Jr B games from the 80s where they wore NO shields, just helmets (look at the video of the Soo Greyhounds/Hamilton Steelhawks brawl that Probert is in). It's just another step to eliminate fighting altogether Jru Gordon (talk) 16:32, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

team moving to Komoka

[edit]

I was told that during a recent meeting (either OHA or PJHL, not sure which), that both the Mt Brydges Bulldogs and the Lambeth Lancers have applied to move to Komoka, with both teams asking other teams for their support (which I guess means it was a Yeck Division GM's meeting). It would make the most sense for Mt Brydges to move there, as they hold their training camps there every spring and summer. I've also heard talk that Lambton Shores of the GOJHL wants to move to Komoka, and I overheard a PJHL GM saying that there are rumors that if the Shores doesn't get to move to Komoka, they want to move to either Lambeth or Mt Brydges, depending on who does move to Komoka. Have you heard anything similar or to the contrary? Jru Gordon (talk) 16:31, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Wiarton GMHL teams

[edit]

Per your edit to the Wiarton Rock being renamed Schooners, I went ahead and moved it. There seems to be some push back as to whether or not this is a franchise expansion or a transfer. The league statement only said, "The Greater Metro Jr. A Hockey League is returning to Wiarton, Ontario following a change of ownership," but it does not specify if the "change" was for the franchise or that this is the leagues way of saying not the same franchise as before. Any insight on this? Because if it is a new franchise I will move the page back to the Rock. Yosemiter (talk) 13:10, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently, the new ownership confirmed on my talk page (under an IP) that they purchased a new franchise. For the time being I am taking them at their word but still waiting on secondary confirmation. Yosemiter (talk) 14:34, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
We need credible proof (ie. press release from GMHL, credible print source)... I believe the GMHL was quite clear in this regard... I suggest we revert back until the GMHL changes their stance (if they do). DMighton (talk) 00:17, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I did e-mail the info@gmhl.net that they have listed for contact looking for confirmation. So far, I have not heard anything back. I actually don't think they were that clear (although I did interpret it the same way as you), it never states it was transferred. It only states the "change" which could easily just refer to the market. And yes, everyone says "but we're not the old ownership! We are better than them! I swear!" which makes the entire situation very annoying. Thanks Yosemiter (talk) 00:28, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I ran into the same problems with the Toronto Patriots and the Quinte Hawks (for obvious reasons) a few years ago... nobody wants to be associated with previous owners, they want a fresh start... but we aren't their marketeers.... we are here to provide raw data. I sympathize... the previous owner were not ones I'd want to be associated with either... but they need to stop worrying about a wikipedia article and start worrying about making a team work on the Bruce Peninsula... the is a long list of casualties there... the Redmen, Wolves, and now the Rock...
Either way, the GMHL usually sticks to the word "expansion" if an owner has paid an expansion fee... if they bought a dormant franchise.... like what seems to happen here... then I imagine they would use the current wording... we will need them to change their statement so we have something to source. If you read what they wrote you, it is very carefully worded... I think they just don't want to be associated with the previous owners - so we make that clear in the article I guess. DMighton (talk) 00:35, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You have much more experience here than me, and I default to your judgement here. Other than one line at the end where they said purchased a "new" franchise, their edits all look like wikipedia marketing to me. Yosemiter (talk) 00:42, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also, looking back the announcements for Fergus and Ville-Marie, both statements are directly titled "Expansion:---". Definitely hard evidence there since the Wiarton announcement never stated expansion anywhere and the other statements had it in the title. Yosemiter (talk) 01:00, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't blame them for it... I sympathize with them a bit... but to buy a dormant franchise is a cheap way of getting a "new" team... expansion teams tend to involve a larger fee... but the expansion label looks a lot better than taking over a team that fell apart mid-season for many bad reasons... no wonder they want to be called an expansion team. DMighton (talk) 02:43, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just an update on the GMHL in Wiarton. The owners once again posted in the move conversation, no sources given just re-claiming they are new. Despite this I did receive a response from Bob Russell of the GMHL in regards to the announcement and status of the franchise. His response (verbatim): "Hello, The Ziels folded the team .This makes the Scooners a new member." Since they Canadian junior leagues are your expertise, I leave you to interpret whether the Schooners info should be removed from the Rock page. Yosemiter (talk) 21:01, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rockland Nationals - NCJHL

[edit]

Hey there! Long time no chat.

Could you edit Current Teams in NCJHL wiki page - Les Castors de Clarence is the former Rockland Nationals Jr. C: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockland_Nationals_(1987-2017) The staff and everything remains the same, they are NOT a new team in the league, but have renamed themselves.

Cheers, Nadia (NCJHL Webmaster)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Windsor Clippers, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Orangeville Northmen (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hockey news today

[edit]

I just heard the following 2 pieces of OHA-related news:

Orangeville Flyers (OJHL) moving to Brampton, team will be named the Brampton Admirals, and will play in the same rink that Brampton's GOJHL team is in.

Caledonia Corvairs taking a 1 year leave of absense.

I don't have access to the links from here (using Wikipedia is ok at work, but not any news sites)

I heard about Caledonia this morning and Orangeville this afternoon. Caledonia - sounds like they are being sore losers about losing to the Cyclones... reading how the GM threw his team under the bus in the interview made me sick. Orangeville to Brampton... meh... the owner complains about a lack of community support but moves the team to Brampton... ok... good luck in Brampton... he tried to move the Fergus Devils there too (like he did with the Owen Sound Greys)... the OHA said no, so the guy just folded the team. Not a fan. DMighton (talk) 01:02, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:MJAHL Logo.JPG

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:MJAHL Logo.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

more news I've heard

[edit]

So you probably already know about Darren DeDobbelaer moving the Milton Icehawks of the OJHL to Brantford, where they will play at the Gretzky Centre as the 99ers. Any idea what will happen with the Jr B 99ers?

So if the 99ers Jr B franchise doesn't play this year, that leaves the MidWest Conference with 7 teams. Will we possibly finally see St Mary's move from the Western Conference to the MidWest?

another story that keeps coming back is the Simcoe Shamrocks wanting to move to Hespeler. I've heard from a couple people in the PJHL that they are indeed moving this season. Have you seen any confirmation? Jru Gordon (talk) 22:07, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Canada national indoor lacrosse team, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Kitchener, Halifax and Hamilton (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

NOHA Jr B

[edit]

There has recently been a series of edits to Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League that have flipped the NOHA Jr. B era's winners and losers. I cannot WP:V either way as I cannot find any sources from that period. Since it seems you were the one that added it in 2009, perhaps you could help shed some light on this? Yosemiter (talk) 19:34, 25 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

They are all newspaper-sourced from the SSM and North Bay newspapers. DMighton (talk) 20:53, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This is where I posted most of my initial research. https://icehockey.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_NOJHL_Seasons DMighton (talk) 21:02, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I saw the Ice Hockey Wiki one, but that does not have the refs included either. Any chance you can take a look at edits by Subaryan (such as this change)? I think adding a cited ref for the the papers you used would help. I do not have Newspapers.com or anything. The recent reversals just seemed suspicious. Thank you, Yosemiter (talk) 21:12, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'll have a look. But I did it through the Canadian library microfiche interlibrary loan program that Harper slashed soon after... SSM is a long haul from Windsor... lol. DMighton (talk) 17:05, 28 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Windsor Away 1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Windsor Away 1.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

 • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
 • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Deletion discussion about Major League Hockey

[edit]

Hello DMighton, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Major League Hockey, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Major League Hockey.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with ToadetteEdit. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
