Mandatory paid editing disclosure
[edit]Hello DLee43. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:DLee43. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=DLee43|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. ~Anachronist (talk) 20:47, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- AXL, I just spotted the Reply button. I hope the message I sent you will suffice.
- Thanks for all your work with Wikipedia. I use it all the time and have provided some financial support as well.
- Just to restate: I am NOT a paid editor.

- I received your email. It is clear from your email that you have a conflict of interest, and you need to disclose it. You can disclose it by editing your user page User:DLee43 (click on the red link to create it) and adding this template:
{{UserboxCOI|1=Musco Lighting}}
- ...and then click "save".
- Editors with a conflict of interest should refrain from making any substantive changes to an article. You can make minor corrections to splelling, grammar, numbers, names, dates, and you can remove obvious vandalism, but anything more substantive than that should be proposed on the article talk page.
- You can use Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard to make an edit request that a non-conflicted editor can review.
- In the case of the change you made, I reverted it because you added information without citing a source, and the information you added misrepresented the source already cited. ~Anachronist (talk) 23:46, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- The sited source you mentioned is from data provided by the other two guys to the State of Iowa. Even this is a misrepresentation - G&L Industries, INC. was the initial start up's name with the INC added after incorporation. G&L Acquisition Co never existed while I was part of the original company so it can not be the previous name.
- The only source of this information will always only be from Myron Gordon, Joe Crookham, and myself.
- I have zero conflict of interest as I have no interest at all anymore other than seeing the truth stand. They own the company and certainly have an interest in providing a nice cleaned up story of their involvement.
- I have no idea why you contest my story yet accept the original author's story which has no more or less providence than mine. Perhaps you should challenge the original author, as you have me, and remove their now contested statements as you refuse to accept mine. Better yet, present both versions in the interest of truth and accuracy. DLee43 (talk) 02:16, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- You have an association with the owners. That creates a conflict of interest.
- Wikipedia requires published sources, not personal knowledge. If the source is wrong and the statement that cites it is wrong, then the whole statement should be removed. I have just done so. ~Anachronist (talk) 03:14, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for removing the contested section. Any chance of getting a copy of that section so I can search for sources to support my version?
- I am attempting to obtain some sources to verify my edits. Not easy as it is more than 50 years ago and G&L operated for several years out of Myron's house with no documentation until incorporation in 1970 and that date can be verified here

- Yes, every edit ever made to the Musco Lighting article is available if you click on the "View history" tab. You'll see a list of edits, including the one you made. If you click on the word "prev" to the left of your username, you'll see how your edit changed the article from the previous version. In this way you can see exactly what you changed.
- Every page on Wikipedia, whether it's an article, a talk page, a user page, a policy page, has a "View history" tab that lets anyone examine who made what edit and when. Look up near the top of this talk page here, and you'll see it for this page. ~Anachronist (talk) 04:20, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- Very interesting and a great system!
- This article history is fascinating. Their founding story slowly changed toward more disinformation over time. Thank you so much for the tip! I am going to leave this alone for now - at least the founding misinformation is out. I will do a rewrite if I can find sources to back it up. They forced me out of a role but they have done a great job with the company since.
- Appreciate your work! All you volunteers that spend so much effort are what make this all work. DLee43 (talk) 14:14, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- Leave a message on my talk page if you ever have any questions. ~Anachronist (talk) 19:59, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of User:DLee43/sandbox
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:DLee43/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 18:27, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
