This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Mutual Fund Directors Forum, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.mfdf.com/site/pages/about.html. Speedy deletion of Mutual Fund Directors Forum

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Mutual Fund Directors Forum requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Rudget.talk 18:31, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Mutual Fund Directors Forum

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Mutual Fund Directors Forum, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read our the guidelines on spam as well as the Wikipedia:Business' FAQ for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Mutual Fund Directors Forum deletion

[edit]

I edited the Mutual Fund Directors Forum article just as you'd requested, citations, and tone. It is not a club, it is not advertising (as we don't use it or need it). The Forum has a special importance in mutual fund history, as it was a response to a call for better corporate governance by Arthur Levitt, who was then Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The article well sources with links only to speeches of Chairmen Pitt and Levitt, as well as their wikipedia entries.

Further, we have been asked by the staff of the SEC to place information about the Mutual Fund Directors Forum on Wikipedia. DJDeedle (talk) 22:37, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message.
Mutual Fund Directors Forum was deleted from Wikipedia under the criteria for speedy deletion, specifically number 7 under "Articles", because it appeared to be article about a club or other group of people which did not assert the importance or significance of the subject.
If this club/group/forum is indeed notable, it will have been written about in reliable sources. You can feel free to recreate the article if you can cite those sources or otherwise explain the notability of Mutual Fund Directors Forum. Finally, you have the option of requesting an independent review of my decision to delete the article. Stifle (talk) 22:40, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mutual Fund Directors Forum, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. You are free to edit the content of Mutual Fund Directors Forum during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Mayalld (talk) 23:35, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neither an advertisement nor a club or band

[edit]

The Mutual Fund Directors Forum entry is not an advertisement, nor is the Forum a club. The Forum does not advertise, and membership is only open to independent directors of mutual funds, not the public. The article clearly notes that the Forum is historically significant because of the reasons it was formed and it's mission. The SEC does not request formation of private, educational or self regulatory organizations; however, in response to sweeping scandals in the mutual fund industry, In this case it did. The speeches cited are those of SEC commissioners (linked directly to the SEC's website)that remark on this unique distinction. The citation to David Ruder's remarks before the Senate Banking committee support the assertion that no agency or organization had before addressed "best practices" guidance for directors of mutual funds.

Wikipedia contains any number of entries to similar nonprofit organizations and foundations that are also not considered advertisement or solicitation.

see: lnvestment Company Institute This is a similar industry group. And it even cites its own website. The Forum's entry does not.DJDeedle (talk) 00:18, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please refer to WP:OTHERSTUFF for an explanation as to why this isn't a valid argument. Mayalld (talk) 07:30, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For your information, you don't need to use the full URL to link to other articles on Wikipedia. Just place [[ and ]] around the article name. For example, [[Mutual Fund Directors Forum]] → Mutual Fund Directors Forum. Stifle (talk) 08:10, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request Your Review

[edit]

The latest version of the Mutual Fund Directors Forum entry cited only the speeches of SEC Chairmen (links only to sec.gov) and the respective chairman's wikipedia entry. I request that you look at it again. Process for contesting your initial decision says I am to request that you review it first. I respectfully request that you do so. DJDeedle (talk) 22:58, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have already done so. If you wish to list a deletion review, go ahead. Stifle (talk) 08:03, 23 November 2007 (UTC) You cannot request a deletion review of an article that exists. While it was inappropriate of you to recreate the article, what's done is done and the discussion now moves to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mutual Fund Directors Forum. You can comment there. Make sure you prefix your comment with "Keep", "Delete", or what you want done with the article (or "comment" if you just want to express an opinion) and the reasoning for it.
