Do I need to do anything special other than make progressive improvements. I would hate to lose my work DBHOB (talk) 10:17, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello DBHOB, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Forests Commission of Victoria have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:06, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Forests Commission Victoria
[edit]Hi,
I really enjoy working together to improve this article.
Unfortunately, the article's body is way too large and has a lot of useful information which would greatly profit from being made concise and manageable. I don't want to start an edit war over the tag that I have put, so please don't remove it again until the problem is fixed. If you have an issue, let's discuss it on the talk page.
P.S - My timezone is Montréal, Canada, so I might normally respond a few hours after you do.
Cheers! Double Plus Ungood (talk) 05:51, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
Hello
This is my first effort at Wikipedia so I'm not sure exactly how this works.
I agree the page has got too long.
My problem is Im getting lots of input from members who once belonged to the Forests Commission and want their story told
I think I can split it up by taking out all the firefighting aircraft stuff into a separate page
Leave it with me for a bit.
Cheers DBHOB
Draft:Victorian School of Forestry (VSF)
[edit]Hi DBHOB,
I noticed your draft when checking something on the WikiProject Forestry homepage. As I thought this was an interesting article, I had a quick look and have done a quick review. I have removed the 'New unreviewed article' template and added a 'reference improvement' template. I also did some editing to improve the appearance of the article. I also have the following comments:
- There is a lot of unreferenced content - please go through the article and check every sentence. If you cannot add a citation immediately, remove any uncited content and put it back later when you find a reference
- Rename the article as 'Victorian School of Forestry' - it is not necessary to include the abbreviation in the article's title.
- It needs an infobox - suggest Template:Infobox school .
- Suggest breaking up the 'History' section into smaller chronological sections .
- Also, a specific section that describes the VSF's facility would be useful - this can be created by gathering relevant existing content together.
- VSF Principals - suggest replacing the table with a plain list as this looks better (in my opinion) and also allows content to be used as a destination for 'redirects'.
Please reply here if you wish to respond to the above as I am now watching your talk page.

- Hi there Cowdy001, Thanks for your advice. Im new to Wikipedia. I went to VSF between 1975-77.
I cant seem to change the title of the page and remove the abbreviation (VSF). Maybe you can. I have cited references to all sections of the text. I have tried to add an info box but cant work out how to add a picture of the school logo. I broke up the text as suggested I would like to leave the table for the moment. Im waiting on a reference from the senior lectures at VSF in the 1970s with more info on all the principals I will write more about the grounds when I get the document
Cheers DBHOB

- Hi there, Is there anything else I need to do to get this page moved from draft to published. Please let me know. Cheers DBHOB DBHOB (talk) 06:23, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi DBHOB, The article looks good! I have made a few changes. The only additional comment that I have is that about half of the reference list is 'bare weblinks'. I think it would be prudent to fill out the references as I did for the citation for Edwin James Semmens (who appears to notable enough to have his own Wikipedia article), so that the reader can see what the link is about before clicking it. Otherwise, I think you have done a good job. Regards Cowdy001 (talk) 11:53, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
Good morning Cowdy001 Thanks once again for your helpful advice I have added more information to the references as recommended I agree that some of the school principals deserve their own page but I'm not an expert but I know a few people who are. It can be my next Wikipedia project Is this all it needs to get it published Cheers DBHOBDBHOB (talk) 21:40, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi there Cowdy001. I’m hoping to get this draft published. I’m meeting some ex students form VSF on the weekend. What is the process? Are you able to help me ? Thanks DBHOB DBHOB (talk) 21:22, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
hi there Cowdy. I think I have worked it out. Cheers DBHOB (talk) 22:40, 4 April 2018 (UTC)

I have updated with new citations as suggested.

Hi there
I took out your edit of "technical school".
In Australia, Technical Schools are where young who are not suited to University go to learn a trade like hairdressing, pastry chef or motor mechanic
I also moved the photo of Frank Moulds. But it was a great prompt to try and find photos of all the Principals of VSF
Im missing a couple but I'm following some leads
I'm trying to get some firm details on the Forestry course at the University of Melbourne. I think it opened in 1938 but also have 1943 listed.DBHOB (talk) 01:56, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Edwin James Semmens
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Edwin James Semmens requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://adb.online.anu.edu.au/biography/semmens-edwin-james-11657. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:38, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

In the meantime could you check another page I have written on Alfred Oscar Lawrence
