Mangalore
[edit]Sir, I believe you have made this malyalam name for Mangalore an emtional issue. On the contrary you should realise that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a newspaper where popular emotions come into play. The common understanding for all towns/cities in India is to use the language that is considered official by the government of that state for that region. There are lakhs of Sindhis, Gujaratis and South Indians living in Mumbai. Do you see all their vernacualar languages represented in the lead line for that article? There is no shortage of Tamils and Telugus in Bengaluru? Do you see those languages represented there. It does not matter how many Malyalees live in Mangalore, how many Telugus live in Bellary, only the official language is acceptable. We need to draw a line somewhere and this is the general understanding. Hope you understand this reasoning. It does not matter how popular Malyalam is in Mangaolre. Does the taluk office and district office there use it as official language? It does not matter if a Malyalam name exists for Mangalore, is it its official name?Hope this message puts an end to this controversy and I also hope you contribute many good articles. Best of luck.Dineshkannambadi 13:47, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Nobody can force the formation of a new state on wikipedia. The decision lies with the Supreme court, not user:Tulu war. IMO, people who come to wikipedia with political motives, will not last long. Tulu war is wasting his time on wikipedia.Dineshkannambadi 13:25, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
