By the way, seeing as your interested in tropical cyclones, I recommend you join the Tropical cyclone WikiProject, which is a group of editors joined by their interest in tropical cyclones. We always need writers, so if you're interested in joining, all you have to do is add your name at the end of the list here. I hope to see you around. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:41, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Regarding the reflist at the end of articles, some references are formatted incorrectly, so they show up only as a link at the bottom. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:03, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- The category, which admittedly is very messed up, takes the wind value in knots and puts in the appropriate SSHS number. However, we have a new template which I believe fixes the problem. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:52, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- Like I said, the previous template is screwed up. However, we have a new template under development, which fixes the problem. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:32, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Gracie
[edit]I'm sorry, but most of that is not correct. While it was only used for one storm, if it wasn't retired then the WPTC guidelines reqires it have the year after the storm name in the title. If you believe this should be changed, it would help for you to start a discussion on WT:WPTC. Cheers, Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:05, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would like to remind you not to attack other editors. Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. - That is our naming convention. Hurricane Gracie wasn't retired, and thus it does need the year. Wikipedia does not always trump WikiProjects, especially when it comes to a specific change such as this. As I said, if you would like the article on way, please discuss it on a talk page first. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:22, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey there. I admit I may have too hastily changed Hurricane Gracie's name to the original, and I apologize for that, and for edit warring. I hope you're not upset with me or the project, and I hope you continue your constructive editing. Regards, Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:10, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey
[edit]CycloneAlley, I have talked to Juliancolton about this separately. In the future, if such a situation were to arise, please refrain from multiple reverts. As a rule of thumbs, even reverting once should indicate there is a problem, and when that happens you should take it to the talk page of the article, rather than each other's talk page. I hope you are not turned off by our project, as I personally agree with you on the name choice (I just happened to miss the sequence of events). There are rarely problems within the project, typically about once every three months ;) The best solution is to not limit it to a one on one argument. Some people are very jumpy when they are called something they think they are not. Just remember, we're all in this together. As a whole, no one is out to get anyone. So, again, I hope you aren't turned off by the project. We are in need of quality editors who are interested in tropical cyclones. You've proven the latter, and I'd like to see your edits in the future - particularly as June 1st is quickly approaching ;) ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:45, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- The user was mis-informed about the policy, as the naming policy was never well-set, and in recent times it has shifted toward what Wikipedia does as a whole. Most of our editors acknowledge that the project doesn't have a well-defined set of rules, which perhaps has let us grow so well. As a result, there are rarely conflicts, but they occassionally rise when opinions differ between angry mastodons. :) About the pressure, if going by HURDAT than the best route would be to do "≤" with whatever the lowest pressure is. However, this a possibility HURDAT did not include a reading, which might appear in the Monthly Weather Review or other observations in HURDAT. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:56, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- Nice, looks good. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:04, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
The biggest problem is that people tend to ignore the season articles. When a storm is active, they'll add every update in status, but most people are afraid to re-write the section to, as you said, what the storm was actually up to. Any change is a welcome change. Don't be afraid to be bold and make changes. Occasionally people will not appreciate the change, but as long as the edits are constructive and overall making Wikipedia, there is nothing to worry about. So, overall, keep on doing what you're doing, as, at the very least, I appreciate someone working on articles that are not in the current season, are not in the Atlantic, and are not even in the northern hemisphere! Keep up the good work. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:49, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Re: Infobox
[edit]I had no idea it looked so different in IE. I need to ask someone who knows more about tables and is familiar with the different style classes (the old infobox the same one, and also looks a bit larger in different browsers).
I was trying out something for the 1999PTS, but including JMA's back that far really complicates it. I'm just going to see how it looks with JTWC data. Potapych (talk) 22:56, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
