Do you have a question? Re-add the template when you do. John Reaves (talk) 08:18, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
I just spent an hour editing a page, then click "What's this?" beside the Minor Edit button before saving the page. When I returned to the page, all my edits were gone. How do I retrieve my work?
- On my browser using the back button would work. If that doesn't work on your browser, then I'm afraid you've lost what you did. --pgk 08:21, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
How do I delete my Wikipedia account? I give up.
- We don't delete accounts, just stop using it, if you really believe you'll never use it again set the password to some random gibberish and remove any email address you may have set. --pgk 08:21, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- I can delete you userpages if you'd like, but as pgk said, there's no way to delete your account. John Reaves (talk) 08:22, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
{{helpme}} John Reaves & pgk-- Thanks. One reason I ask is because I can't get an answer from anyone about deleting the warning messages below from my history. I made an honest mistake my first time out, but the editor who blocked me refused to respond to repeated efforts on my part to clarify the situation. (I realize now that adding a bunch of links triggers your alarms, but every link I added was to a page with legitimate content appropriate to the page. Even a cursory look at any of the pages would have shown that.) Also, you'll notice that one editor merely issued a warning while another SIMULTANEOULSY blocked me, raising the question of what the proper response was. Thanks, Curt
- Well, let's not worry about the block since it was in December. Please review the links below to see why the external links aren't appropriate. -- John Reaves (talk) 08:51, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
{{helpme}} got your response--disregard last message. No offense, but I am worried about it because it wasn't handled properly, and I don't like having something in my history that shouldn't be there. It was my first time ever to make an edit. If Wikipedia wants people to help build its database, they should allow people to make one mistake without blocking them and placing it on their permanent record. They should also have responded when I asked legitimate questions about it back when it happened. Curt
- Well, I'm not sure what you want. This was five months ago and the user has since left Wikipedia. Most Wikipedians are willing to let bygones be bygones. For instance, I'm an administrator and I have a block for vandalism in my block log. -- John Reaves (talk) 09:00, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
{{helpme}} I'm not sure what you mean when you say "the user has since left Wikipedia." I'm the user who was warned by one administrator and blocked by another administrator. What I want is for the block to be removed from my history because it was improperly issued.
- I mean the user that blocked you, no longer edits. Blocks are rarely removed from logs, except in very rare circumstances. -- John Reaves (talk) 09:16, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
{{helpme}} Okay, so what is the proper procedure for me to follow to apply to get the block removed from my log?
- There is no procedure, it simply doesn't happen. It's been done maybe once or twice in the history of Wikipedia. Your case isn't enough to warrant this. -- John Reaves (talk) 09:25, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.
