Virus taxonomy
[edit]Hi, I wonder if you could comment at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Viruses#Top level for virus taxoboxes, as I see you have some expertise in virus taxonomy.
In brief, the issue is that until recently, virus taxoboxes almost always had a virus group as the top level, as per this version. However, in the ICTV 2018 system, taxa from family upwards have members in more than one virus group, so this approach often doesn't work. An alternative is as per this version, where the top level is just "Virus" and the virus group doesn't appear in the taxobox. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:42, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
Viruses portal news
[edit]Hi Curt99 -- thanks for adding a news item to the Viruses portal! I think you are the only editor to do that in all the years it's been online! I've archived the item now, but please do feel very welcome to add similar items in future -- it's really hard now that I'm retired to keep up with anything other than the WHO outbreak feed. PS If you can think of any articles/images in your area that would be good additions to the portal content (preferably at least B class), then do suggest them here, and preferably ping me so that I don't miss them.
