Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to UBC Department of Computer Science. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Also, please edit articles in an encyclopædic style, not a promotional pamphlet. Shadowssettle(talk) 22:11, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Shadowssettle. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, UBC Department of Computer Science, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Uncited material may be removed entirely, and articles without citations are not considered noteworthy, so may be deleted. It's easy to find a few newspaper articles, academic conference information pages, or history books covering most topics, which you might want to take a look at. University-produced material is allowed for individual details, but not if it is of a promotional nature, nor may it be used to establish notability. Content such as "Recognized internationally for excellence in research and teaching with a conscious focus on interdisciplinary programs, the Department encourages diversity both within its community and areas of study. It plays a leadership role in research, teaching and outreach activities to champion the understanding and integration of Computer Science.", especially unsourced, is promotional; it could easily come out of a course prospectus. You haven't readded this, and the rest of the article reads somewhat okay, although there are a host of other problems
Also, note that sources must be retrievable, either a published book, or a URL is normally required, and using only university sources doesn't establish notability. There is still a dearth of sources even, let alone reliable sources. This article is not alone with these problems, which may be to an extent common across department articles, some of which are not notable enough and shouldn't have articles, but it is a somewhat extreme case, and may be deleted, or trimmed further if it is not well sourced. If you want an example, see U of T; it's far from perfect, but at least it shows how referencing can be used. You may also want to check out WP:EL. Shadowssettle(talk) 08:40, 20 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
