Congrats and more

[edit]

Hey Crz, congrats on becoming an admin again. Sorry for the A-Team joke on the page, I couldn't resist ;-). I have a question for you. As I understand, you are a law student, and I'd like to know, what do you think about the {{PD-Soviet}}? Is there any law school magic you can use, to either convince me of the case against it or provide some legal defence for it? Regards, DVD+ R/W 01:29, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I guess my role in this is mostly as a reader. I think there are lots of really good historical and encyclopedic images at stake (at stake because the template has now been deleted at the Commons). Though the appended text makes some sense to me, I don't know enough to understand the cases or provide alternatives. I am a bit worried that this template has been prosecuted in a way here, and is being acted against without a defence in legal terms. DVD+ R/W 01:54, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

you're back!

[edit]

hey man...u seem cool. i actually have to be a russian guy for model u.n but my site was just a story about real people. real people who do fictional things. it has a small fanbase and i would just like to know exactly why i got deleted?

Touch up on photo

[edit]

Hi Crzrussian!
Sorry for taking so long - final exams in three weeks! Here are two edits, sorry if you were expected an amazing transformation - the original (if you don't mind me saying so) was too poor to do much). Personally I much rather the BW version. Image:Crzrussian 2001 bw.jpg, Image:Crzrussian 2001 edit.jpg. If you just want a straight touch up of the original in the parts you described I can do that as well. --Fir0002 09:52, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Until Fritzbot reminded me, I had forgotten that I had uploaded a .png as well as a .jpg, so the latter becomes unnecessary. You may want to do the honors of deletion. AnonEMouse (squeak) 12:56, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

shortpages

[edit]

I noticed you added stuff to a couple pages I protected to keep them out of shortpages - should I be doing that always? Sounds like it could be a feature request for the mediawiki software, to keep articles with that template out of shortpages. Either that, or we should be subst'ing that template. --Aguerriero (talk) 14:57, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you check the history of the above article, you will find some versions that attack people and should probably be deleted to prevent reversion. Would you mind deleting some of those edits so that non-admins would not even know about them? Cheers. youngamerican (yo) 17:27, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ilan Manulis. Closure on an issue is always nice.

And congrats on returning to the ranks of the admins... Williamborg (Bill) 17:30, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have to compliment you on your professionalism and politeness. Let me also alert you to the fact that I made my original edit to St. John's University School of Law as part of a larger mission of editing all the law school pages in New York, adding those categories. I still think that the categories should apply but it seems I have lost this argument. perhaps the real solution is to remove the category for New York City law schools completely and have only the New York law schools category. --Cdogsimmons 21:42, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks (even if you opposed)

[edit]
Thanks for your input in my RfA, which passed on October 17, 2006 with a tally of 53/6/0. A word of constructive criticism always helps a person more than a person of support, and your constructive criticism on my RfA helped me realize my shortcomings and how I should improve on them. I will strive to correct such missteps and answer your concerns voiced on my RfA. With humility, 210physicq (c) 02:13, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

+Anima prod

[edit]

In regards to your prod of the +Anima article, it's a 10 volume book series with international publication. How is the notability or importance here even questionable? (Please note that we have no notability guideline on books at present, and the current book proposal explicitly does not cover comics.)

And no, I'm not a series fanboy, I've never read the thing. --tjstrf 05:52, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I'm just glad it happened to randomly be on my watchlist. I've minorly improved the article, added a few external links, etc. but it's absurdly hard to find info for online because of the name. As I'm sure you know, "+" acts as a Boolean operator in search terms, so searching for it (even in quotes) merely yields every occurrence of the term Anima. btw, has WP:MANGA ever considered defining the notability for inclusion in their articles? --tjstrf 15:26, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I like the stuff, and it is a valid form of literature. It also happens to be a form of literature easily available online, which means it should be incredibly simple to write good articles about, though by the same token horrible to cite properly. --tjstrf 15:39, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

editing etiquette

[edit]

Hi, Just to clarify, did you think I was in some way unprofessional? I referred to it as a Low level category deletion edit war because it was the second time I personally added the category and had it removed after someone else (User:PreferenceSeries) had also added it twice and had his edits reverted twice. Thanks again for your help.--Cdogsimmons 14:19, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if that's really answered my question but you seems you might have been insulted my use of the term "edit war". Apparently I've been using that term rather loosley. Sorry. Don't want to ruin your rep. I've been doing this for a year now but I guess calling me inexperienced is an easy way out and I really don't mind. I've decided to remain somewhat anonymous on wikipedia, though I'm sure you could find out who I am through some clever detective work. What's an Rfa?--Cdogsimmons 15:11, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article?

[edit]

Is there an article here that discusses Jewish clothing? Like the history behind some of the clothing that Jewish people will wear? I hope that makes sense. :) --Aguerriero (talk) 14:51, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am just curious, and like to read about religious customs and traditions. There is an orthodox Jewish person working at my office, and he wears very distinctive clothes. I just wondered why, how, etc. --Aguerriero (talk) 15:02, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
He wears a long dark suit coat, which is a style I've not seen around, at least where I shop. :) He also wears a dark hat sometimes (I think just outdoors) and other stuff that I recognize like a yarmulke. --Aguerriero (talk) 15:10, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I knew you'd be the go-to guy! --Aguerriero (talk) 15:23, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Got some reading to do now... --Aguerriero (talk) 15:38, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm down with that. I'm reading right now about conversion to Judaism, because I noticed in one of the articles that it is not encouraged or promoted. I find that really interesting, because it seems like many religions (judging from the number of people that come knocking at my door) actively try to recruit members. --Aguerriero (talk) 15:55, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's what I thought. I have a lot to learn about Judaism. I actually had a Jewish roommate in college but I only ever saw him observing some basic ceremonies over Hanukkah. --Aguerriero (talk) 16:12, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please can you let me know why you have deleted chickfeetsa.jpg , it is linked to an article on chicken feet cuisine in South Africa which was deleted by accident by Lucky 6.9 who has apologised as he did not check the facts.

Hi

[edit]

Hi there,

Thanks for the feedback, I will work on getting enough content to put up as soon as I put up new entries rather than putting up just a little bit and waiting to expand on it. Thanks for being somewhat nice because I know some moderators are mean.

FYI, the instructions there point to {{nsd}}, which is of course wrong. Do we have a similar template for the new replaceable img deletion scheme? - CrazyRussian talk/email 17:58, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The equivalent to {{nsd}} would be {{f1d}}, but I don't see where is the category pointing to nsd (although it would be a very likely error, as it as built from a copy & paste). --Abu Badali 18:09, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted pages on Special:Shortpages

[edit]

For pages that were only re-created a couple of times within a few hours, they are unlikely to be re-created again at the same title days or weeks afterward, so it would be helpful to just delete them. They have to be perma-deleted eventually anyway, and new ones simply add to the extremely long list which you can find at User:DumbBOT/TimeSortedPD. —Centrxtalk • 18:56, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Though I guess AWB wouldn't be very helpful for that. —Centrxtalk • 19:00, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

picture help

[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me with a picture that I had hoped to add to the article on Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson. I wanted to add a picture of her kever to the article and I uploaded the picture to Wikipedia already [2]. When I try to put it into the article it comes out huge and takes up most of the space. I even tried uploading a different picture of the same thing to see if it would make a difference, but the same thing happened. If you could help me that would be wonderful. Some of the things on Wikipedia I'm still getting used to. Thanks alot.Sagtkd 20:24, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Frivoulous?

Your quick revert of the warning template here [4] was improper. If it was that frivolous, you wouldn't have bothered, would you? Kundan After Sundown 18:35, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: DTB

[edit]

Google is your friend. :-) You can limit a search to a specific host. In this case, I used "site:en.wikipedia.org dtb"[5] as my search term (actually I did it with the Google Toolbar instead of typing it, but the principle is the same). You still have to go through the results and decide what is worth including, but it at least makes it manageable. -- JLaTondre 12:29, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll drop a note at the SG noticeboard. It's in a mess yes, but a quick check he appears verifiable and some facts are correct. (See [6], [7]) I think this one is going for a rewrite rather than an outright deletion. - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 14:53, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, can you tell me why you reverted my deletion of the REDIRECT in this page ? I did so because that episode is the only one that has a redirect, while all the others (except the first one) have red links ? Lvr 15:58, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't want to delete it, but just align it on the others. But you're right, the page exists and deleting the redirect wouldn't have aligned this page on the other ones.Lvr 13:57, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
