Asking for help
[edit]i am not familar with Wikipedia's processes yet. So should I answer here or at another place?
i am a retired engineer interested in mechanical cipher machines and like collecting them. What I did was adding to the Fialka article a further reference to a well written paper: [1] I am not an author of that paper. I never met the authors and i also don't have and never had a business relation with them. They are neither friends, colleagues, company, organization nor competitors. There is no copyright violation, the refered paper is public. So i think there is no COI. Is that enough or do you need more information?
Besides this formal thing please have a look at the reference/link itself and/or ask other crypto experts. This is a very well researched paper and there is no doubt that it is helpful for the readers of Wikipedia.
I am a bit disappointed about the formal treatment by this single Wikipedia admin S0091: When I came accross the Fialka article and saw your request --- Please help to improve this article by introducing more precise citations. (March 2009) --- i thought this information could be helpful. Instead i am needled with assumptions ("Not a reliable source") instead of just checking whether the information i delivered is correct. I thought, in Wikipedia the content is what counts and not first put distrust on a new well meaning author. Please help to improve this process. This is also meaningful for getting other new authors --- I recently read an article, that Wikipedia has a lack of new authors --- maybe this formal treatment (if it' s not a single case) is one of the reasons. Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Cryptocollector. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Fialka, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. S0091 (talk) 20:38, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
