Parish or Civil Parish?
[edit]I consider it unwise to use the religious term "parish". "Civil parish" is defined in law and is broadly neutral (but some Parish Councils have changed their name to "Community Council" to leave the sectarian connotation behind. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 00:56, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- That's something I have wondered, most sources (like OS linked data and censuses) seem to use "parish" alone so that might be preferable per WP:NCDAB ("(mythology)" rather than "(mythological figure)") however the term "parish" indeed may be ambiguous with EPs etc luckily there aren't many parishes that need disambiguation in this way. Buckinghamshire: Civil parishes in Borough of Milton Keynes
[edit]I have updated the section for these two entries. The {{tq}} text is as originally written:
Campbell Park (civil parish), special case, park is in Central Milton Keynes parish
- I have just created the article as a redirect to Campbell Park#Civil parish. I don't see any merit in splitting the article, or at least not unless and until the PC comes up with a sensible new name to reflect the fact that the Park is no longer in the CP (nor has been for quite a few years now). I have moved the entry down in the list of "redirect only" --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 00:56, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
Milton Keynes (parish), create as Milton Keynes Village, redirect exists at Milton Keynes (civil parish)
At present,
- the term "Milton Keynes Village" has no legal status, it is a local disambiguation to mean the pre-1967 settlement (historically "Middleton de Cahaignes", hence the name "Middleton" for the modern area that encloses and includes the village).
- the article Milton Keynes Village already exists as a redirect to the settlement (as it should) and should not be changed
- Milton Keynes (civil parish) already exists as a redirect to Middleton, Milton Keynes#Civil parish: this is correct.
- Milton Keynes (parish) should remain as a red link; the correct term in law is civil parish, not 'parish' (which is a religious term). See #Parish or Civil Parish? above.
- MK (CP) operates jointly with Broughton, Milton Keynes#Civil parish via Broughton and Milton Keynes Parish Council
- I have moved the entry down in the list of "redirect only" --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 00:56, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll start a discussion at Talk:Middleton, Milton Keynes#Split 2. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:11, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
