Revert on the California Article

Hello, you reverted my edit on the California article about Califas who migrated to California, I am amendable to make the edit less Promotional and have Neutral Point of View. You don't need to mention my name then, just cite the article and the information therein, regards! :D

--Rene Bascos Sarabia Jr. (talk) 16:26, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

@Rene Bascos Sarabia Jr.:, your article is not a reputable source nor is the self-published website it’s hosted on. Your edits don’t merit inclusion at all on the California page, and and are perhaps barely relevant on Etymology of California, but with a reputable source, not the one you provided. Cristiano Tomás (talk) 18:04, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank You for referring me to an alternative article, I have primary sources on formerly Muslim Filipinos in California so I'll use that in leiu of/asides from my article. I will remove that edit in the California article and put it in the Etymology Article. Regards and have a blessed day! :D --Rene Bascos Sarabia Jr. (talk) 00:59, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

Another Revert.

In your revert to my edit in California you specifically said that my editions don't belong there but belong to the Etymology section so I transferred my edit there.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Cristiano_Tom%C3%A1s/Archive_15#Revert_on_the_California_Article

Now you say that it doesn't belong in the etymology section, despite previously saying it belongs there! Also Wikipedia allows citing yourself, provided your work is relevant to the article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Attribution#Citing_yourself

And in addition to that I cited a source on former Muslims of Manila in addition to my reference.

Hopefully we can come into a consensus thank you and good day sir. :D --Rene Bascos Sarabia Jr. (talk) 02:56, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

Dear Cristiano Tomás,

You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here!

Hello. I'm just wondering why you added the Spanish translation of this proper name to the above article. ???? Yours sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 20:47, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Adding indigenous and Spanish names

Hello. You may have already answered this, but I am unable to get into your list of previous messages. Anyway, good day! I am wondering under what WP:Policy or WP:Guideline you are adding indigenous and/or Spanish place names to various geographic articles, such as Morro Bay, California. Shouldn't they have a WP:Reliable source to attest to their WP:Notability? Best wishes, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 00:11, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Well, I found my way into your former WP:Talk, and I found this message about a similar topic which I left for you: User_talk:Cristiano_Tomás/Archive_15#Dominguez_Channel. Perhaps you can answer both of my questions here? BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 00:14, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
@BeenAroundAWhile: Hope you are well! Sorry about the previous message you left, my talk page archives entries faster than I would prefer. You are absolutely correct there should be sources on all additions of alternative local names in the lead (if I haven't added them everywhere yet, it is because it is an ongoing project of mine). Policies like WP:Multiple Local Names and WP:Alernative Names are the basis for my additions. That is why New Orleans has "Nouvelle Orleans" in its lead, why Szczecin has "Stettin" in its lead, why Mexico City has "Altepetl Mexico" in its lead, why Wellington has "Te Whanganui-a-Tara", why Baton Rouge has "Bâton-Rouge" in its lead, etc. Alternative names originating in either a) historically significant local communities or b) significant minority populations justify the inclusion of indigenous names and Spanish names in a great deal of articles of places in California. But your point is well-taken, I will make sure not to fall behind on adding references. Best, Cristiano Tomás (talk) 20:26, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. About the origin of "Morro," I have heard the rock was thus named because it looked like a turban worn by the Moors. Do you have a source that says otherwise? Please answer on the MB Talk page. Sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 21:15, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
Is it your intention to add Spanish translations to all the English proper names in Wikipedia, whether or not they are officially so named, and, if so, what would your criteria be, and why Spanish and not other languages? For example, there are undoubtedly Chinese characters meaning "Dominguez Channel," so why not include them as well? I'm not being argumentative; I just want to know what the criteria are for using Spanish instead of some other language? (Maybe there is already a WP:guideline on this topic; frankly, I haven't checked because I hope you would have done so.) BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 04:28, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
Well, I just checked the guidelines you offered above, and I'll read them carefully and get back to you. Best wishes, BeenAroundAWhile (talk)
@BeenAroundAWhile:, No, it is my intent to added Spanish names where there is a numerically significant Hispanic community in the region and significant amounts of original Spanish-language news reporting or sources that refer to the place. To ignore the very real historic and demographic link that Spanish has to most of California is to be willfully blind. Cristiano Tomás (talk) 04:35, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
@BeenAroundAWhile: And to make a comparison between the relevance of Spanish in Los Angeles County (which if 50% Latino) to Chinese in regards to Dominguez Canal is ludicrous in my opinion. Especially in the face of numerous, major Spanish-langauge local sources. The LA Times doesn't have a Chinese edition but it does have a thriving Spanish one. Same thing for the San Diego Union-Tribune, or the San Francisco Chronicle, or SFGate, or the San Jose Mercury News, or the Sacramento Bee, which all have original Spanish-language editions and content. Please don't underestimate the relevance of Spanish in California. Cristiano Tomás (talk) 04:40, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
Hmm. Well, I checked the info you provided above, and it seems that the use of alternate names depends on their use by English-language sources. Go here to verify. Would you accept that as a valid criterion? BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 19:23, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

We seem to edit a lot of the same articles. I noticed this edit and wonder if you've been doing it regularly? Many of these tables were added by one editor, who was eventually blocked. I also don't feel they are encyclopedic, but I have not deleted them (I collapse their visibility). Have you had pushback? Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:16, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Hey there @Magnolia677:, thank you for the message. I absolutely delete these templates wherever I encounter them. About 6-7 years ago an editor was vigorously adding these templates everywhere and many editors took a huge effort to refer the edits wholesale, but it seems that the templates have reappeared again across many articles and there isn't as much of a huge push to delete them this time around. However, I do what I can when I see them. I have never had pushback, but in fact support from established editors. This content does not belong here on Wiki, that much is for sure. Cheers, Cristiano Tomás (talk) 23:51, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
Interesting. I regularly delete "rankings" and "accolades" on US city articles. When I had pushback it went to this RfC. The same may happen with the presidential results. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 08:39, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
@Magnolia677:, Seems like you had overwhelming consensus of support on that RfC. Rankings are also a plague on city articles. If either of us encounter backlash removing either type of content, I am pretty confident that the community will support the removal as a whole, even if there are occasionally detractors here and there. Best, Cristiano Tomás (talk) 16:21, 12 April 2022 (UTC)

A request

Howdy. Maybe you can help. Where is this so-called discussion that led to the mess up at the infoboxes of Philip II, III & IV concerning the Portuguese regnal numbers. GoodDay (talk) 00:58, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

@GoodDay: Hey there. No idea what discussion you’re referring to. I just know that the title/succession input in an infobox is not the place for anything other than titles (not regal names). Best, Cristiano Tomás (talk) 04:49, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
No prob & thanks for giving me a clear response. Two other editors failed to do so, on the same matter. GoodDay (talk) 04:51, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
@GoodDay:, no worries. You’re a solid editor in my book, I didn’t revert your edits just for the sake of it/for a vendetta, which I hate to say lots of editors do here, as I’m sure you know. That is the primary reason I no longer edit on royalty related articles nowadays (for some reason that topic attracts lots of vicious personalities). Feel free to reach out if you start a discussion on the topic of regnal names/numbers, I’ll gladly contribute my two cents on the subject. Best, Cristiano Tomás (talk) 04:57, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

Poway, California

Hi, on which basis do you decide whether presidential election results for a locality a encyclopedic or not? Is there any guideline or you just deciding this based on your own impression? Obviously, very large American cities have had this information for a long time. Also all American counties, no matter the size, have this information. Thanks for your help!

Hi there. Regarding this discussion, I have started a discussion at Talk:Carlsbad, California#Election results. It would be good to get a consensus one way or the other. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 17:09, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

An article you recently created, Nobel International School Algarve, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Respell is English-only

Hi. We shouldn't use the respell template for Spanish, as you did at Vallejo, California and Benicia, California. That's because respell is the English pronunciation, so you're saying that Spanish is English. E.g. for Vallejo, you claimed that the Spanish pronunciation [baˈʎexo] was really [bæˈjɛhɒ] (i.e., that Spanish 'a' is the sound in the English word 'cat', Spanish 'o' is the sound in the English word 'hot', etc.). — kwami (talk) 04:22, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
