Geography/Geology of New Jersey
[edit]Hello, I saw your article at Palisades Sill. Thank you for your contribution. I would like to invite you to also contribute to the Geography of New Jersey article. It is much in need of an expert in Geography and Geology. Thank you. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 07:36, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the invitiation. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, I've been pulled in every direction. I've gone and added a section on the Newark Basin to the article, as well as writing a more geologically-in-depth article at Newark Basin. Thanks again and let me know if there's anything else I can help with. --CrankyScorption 05:10, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey - I added the composite image to the "See also" section. I think it's cool, but I'm unsure of it's staying power; however, I won't remove it from this section because I don't think it does any harm. The problem with the page is the clutter of photos, but the ones on there I think are all good. There's a way to get your photo into the main body of the article, tough: expand it. The clutter is because the article is pretty small, considering the historic nature of the building, but also its place in NYC history, who owns it, how it has changed hands, and the original purposes of it. Thanks for the compliments. Regarding vantage points: one excellent way to obtain good vantage points is....hotels. Most hotels have pretty much open-access to the higher floors (which often have windows in the hallways, or they have a restaurant, cafe or lounge at the top of them. If you look like you belong in the hotel (having your camera out helps) then you are unlikely to be questioned. The Hilton Times Square, though, only allows guest access to the floors; that is where I shot One Penn Plaza, when I went to photograph Gerald Posner. This has been a rarity, though. Before I obtained my good camera, I even made it to the Governor's Floor at the Millenium Hilton at Ground Zero, which I thought was surprising. If you are on a photo hunt around Manhattan, it might be worthwhile to just pop into a hotel, walk straight for the elevators, push a button for the top floor, and see where it takes you... --David Shankbone 15:37, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit]You imaged these basaltic columns near Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades New York. I was unaware of these columns and I would like to vist them and image them. What road are these columns on? I wish to visit. I live in The Bronx. Can you send me directions to these columns?
Thanks

Hello, I'm replying to your question on my page because I didn't see one for you. Anyway, it's a bit hard to describe how to get to the columnar joints, but I'll try my best (it was over two years ago). The entrance to the hiking path I took is at the back of the parking lot near Lamont's Geochemistry Building. After going over and/or under several fallen logs and branches, the path forks in three near a tiny stream (which might be dry); the left path eventually leads to a small waterfall which is fed by the stream and to the bank of the Hudson River (after several bends and steps on the path), the straight path crosses that tiny stream and eventually links up to what I believe are other hiking trails (I didn't go too far in that direction), and the right path leads to the main road (Route 9W). The columns were on the straight path, not too far past the stream. If you don't have access to Lamont, there was an entrance to the hiking path just before the vehicle entrance to Lamont (which is where the right path takes you). I'd imagine that there are other hiking paths that connect to the straight path, but I wouldn't know how to get to them. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. -CrankyScorpion 20:37, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Your RCA Bldg triptych...
[edit]Hope you don't mind a fan letter. I love your three shots of the RCA Building (showing my age) in Rock Center. The three "moods" you caught, just hours apart really, are just fascinating. Thanks for the work and the vision. — HarringtonSmith (talk) 05:18, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Better source request for File:Break-up of Pangaea.JPG
[edit]Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:
You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Problem with your custom signature
[edit]You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.
The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.
The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.
- Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
- Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
- Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
- Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
- Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.
More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you. 18:02, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
